took the perosanls to australia for 3 days of golf in the sand belt , adn a round in sdyney on 4 very differnt types of grass, as well as all the midsummer pleasure of japan.

in midsummer here.... they were ....., well splendid. (perfect)

on the MUCH shorter harder cropped grass and very fast fairwyas of the sand belt i found these very very accomdating.

i was under the belief previous that on hard buffalo grass the smaller thinner soled blades would be much better suited.

but after a rigourous long weekend of ball striking id say the heavier (slightly ) thicker soles of the persoanls were prob better for me. the heavier shaft i have in them didnt help with distance, but distance isnt some thing i care about with irons.

these are great in luch but so is a t (issue box on a rake pole)...

and ive discovered these are really really good on hard stuff.

cud def have done with slightyl lighter shafts for 5 days of golf . the NS c10s make ur shoulder s look like the hulks after continual use.... im really tired now. back to the monaccos.

these irons heads are 10/10...... absolutely perfect heads.

So do they knock out the TS 905 for the hard pan? Have found the TS to be a treat when the FW dry up...

didnt have the bag space for the 905s.. too much travelling . only had room for one set of irons.

the 905s will be played at chrissy i assure you.

itching to get the 905s in play at manly.

great weekend in melbourne huge thanks to vincent for his company and hosting at eastern GC.

melbourne for peole that dont know it an may be looking for a destination is

at the very very top of destinations...makes sydney look alike a poor tired expensive cousin.

melbourne is sensational for golf.

I tried the Epons on some really dry and hard surfaces and I would agree that it worked very well. I think the thinner sole has a lot to do with it. I felt that it helps the clubhead cut into the hard turf better without it bouncing through. Nothing beats that crisp feel when the head cuts through some turf perfectly. :)

Tats,

Have you hit the 905s? You think those are knifelike from the top, the soles are thinner… ;) Think the Personals sole is at least 1.5x that of the 905s...

There are a plethora of courses in Melbourne, as well as all over Victoria......

I was lucky enough to play Royal Melbourne the other Sunday.....I was using the AF-Tours, and these played very well off the tight fairways of RMGC.

Nope, haven't got a chance to hit the 905s. I'm sure its great, I looked at them many times and hit them in my imagination a few times. :) I love new technology and design, but still love the classic butter knife looking heads. How do u think the 905s compare to the Personals?

they are totally diffent animals.

the 905s ive had a while but only palyed a cpl of times and played well with them each time.

they are top off thin grass. thats why i bought them for sydney summer.

but there was so much rain last yr the grass was like japan!

they go good on that let me tell ya.

the 905s are my best looking blade , but they are a bit too square for my "personal "preference.

but i hit em really well.

im gaming them omorrow . so il llet ya know sunday

Zaftig vs Skinny

Rounded vs Angular

Billy club vs knife

Soft vs Firm

I like them both quite a bit, but they are very different irons with similar results. I have not had enough time with the Personals on a variety of grass/conditions yet. I have only gotten a handful of rounds under my belt with them. Whereas the 905s I have had for 2 seasons now.

At this point I can target pins better with the 905s because of familiarity. Not that I don't think I can with the Personals, still just learning them...

Also, not knowing all of Stew's references between Japanese and Aussie grass, but I still get along fine with the 905 in all but the wettest of conditions. When it is really wet I need to take an extra club length as the divots are incredible. I think Kate Middleton used one of mine dyed white as the train on her wedding gown...

these were two damn good shots. both landed me close.. i had to go to the land fill accross the road and get a truck to fill these in .

the right one got up and ran away

its the most lovely thing ever... there is NO run what so ever. most drives get backspin hence why i have a lot of 10.5* low spin high launch drivers!

this was in hokkaido in august ... the grass is unbeleiveable . every shot off the fairway just eats the grass.

Love the pics! I love nice, fresh divots. I hope they were from solid shots! ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

Divot on the right is a near perfect divot...slice of bacon with a slight left lean to it. I'm guessing a bit steep just due to what look like either somewhat wet conditions or very lush.

spot on .. wet , very lush and got it dead pure. the games totally differnt playing out of this stuff compared to hard pan aussie rockgrass.

that why i love going up there to play.
