If the 80T carbon is superior to boron, why do Waccine or Basileus Z still adopt boron in their high end shaft?

I've learned that the boron has some shortcomings. Have them been resolved already?

There are two typical boron shafts:

1. High torque: 4.5~6.0 like Waccine and Godis.

2. Low torque: Under 3.0 like PNOEZ

I asked people who had tried both. The results were positive. The low torque PX-1 5001 does not feel stiff at all. Waccine GR-55 is unlike some high torque model. The side-spin is well under controlled. Both have very amazing performance.

It's great to learn some good stuffs out there, but for an end user, this could mean more confusion aroused.

Well! As always, ~ Coin-throwing time! No! Better hear you guys opinion first.

I like boron shafts have both stinger and the crazy boron.

They are very stable and shaft kinda adapts to ehatever you throw

At it.. They can hang with all the 80t shafts.. I am not technical in my

Explanations i leave that to stew. H has extensive experience with

With boron..

Hes part boron to be honest.

Come on, you've read Stew's posts. He most definitely bore off....

well i like being boring.

i think they are very good.

I guess the "shortcomings" are mainly the high price of Boron, the difficulty of handling it, (it's a much more complicated material to work with apparently) and the fact it's not readily available in large quantities. It's rare, expensive, difficult to make, and difficult to work with from what I've gathered. Otherwise, the properties of Boron seem to be perfect for shaft making.

Yep! It is pricy (most of them). There're few cheaper version boron shafts and get the job done well. Just have not seen too much people talk about it at the forum. There is even a nano boron shaft at a moderate price. Don't know how does it compare to nano carbon. Hope we can see more of these at TSG's store.

If the shaft is full Boron it's going to cost a lot. If they throw in some fancy words like Nano and bring the price down I would call that a red flag. We also need to be aware how much of the high end carbon is being used. Many shafts may put some 50T in the tip and call it a 50T shaft that sells for half of what a the full length 50T shaft would sell for. Lots of word games going on.

Yes, there are lots of marketing tricks out there. Thanks all staffs of TSG and guys in this forum for helping to straighten things out.

in the syard is absolutely mint.

it looses nothing........... to the othe rshafts here. its just higher.

when i tee the ball slightyl lower i got a ton of run.

its the most accurate as well..

I read this " FULL BORON VS 80T" posted long time ago at the forum. You guys can have a look. I'm just wondering anything have changed after these years.

I have a full 80T (well almost diamana X) going in one head and stinger boron in another and will give them a fair run down soon. May even swap them.

matt try them both in the s-yard.

ull seee teeth in yr smile u didnrt know u had.

put the dia X in it first....

I'm looking forward to see the result. Thanks, Pal!

i love the way it performs .

it looses nothing to anything newer ive tried.

Looks better.

feels unreal.

doesnt warp bemd or stray.

i honestly dont know if i can play another shaft .

Im going to add more to this bec as far back as a few days ago its clear, BORON IS A LONG WAY from being.. dead.

i have a bunch of older 2011/2012/13 ish , Yamaha endo forged v series heads , bascaily made of the best material there was (is) , great shape 425/440/460 cc heads amazing feel i took to Mr wiard and said what do u think, he s just done the 7d yamaha for me and said why not do them all with yuor best shafts bec there is no better head..... 13 yrs on........................ , u know wht i kind of agree with him.
lots of great heads out there but better than an ENDO made no expsnse spared one ?? , sorry, no

so

stinger 70s.

diamana x 70s

crazy black 80 7.4

seven dreamers 65xs

all went in to the YAM heads basically the same length, specs all 9-10* lofts.
i finally took them all out for a lets see sesshy, just the yams un diluted with my others to see what was the "best".

-Range balls but good bridgestone balls that dont fall out of the sky after 150 yards, these are like good quality " cheap : balls so its a fair test not being able to hit them on the course like i usually do to definitively test my hoards.
ihit a TON of balls in hot humid ,no wind day.

  • after warming up i hit 10 balls with each driver session 1 then had a break .
    - decided to start with the Xshaft from2014 @ 10*.. (my god this is about as a good a club as ive hit , the feel is like what id call perfection. slightly higher ball flight but flat and reaching , searching for distance. it didnt like to whip about laterlly too much but its more than doable. shaping this IS possbile , i have the 2017 shaft but thats in my jbeam 435 black and prob not likey to come out anytime this century. as an aside there IS a differnce in 2014/2017 but its so minimal its almost undetectable in a driver ,in a fw wood is where i can tell.
-next up was the crazy black 80 7.4............,
im not 100% sure what i think about this in a driver its SO stiff and dense and LOW , if ur not on your game at the top of ur game , this thing KILLS you its just not for the light hearted. its a proper beast.
i was hitting the ball well so i was getting it to ignite a bit but in all honesty i cud go down a flex in this shaft and enjoy it more. i hit it well and saw its character but id not reach for it often and not in a comp bec its such as task master. of all the shafts this was the least suited to the YAM head and i think it wud be better served in my kamui top 07 10.5* , i think thats what i wil do with it bec it was , by a ways my least fav and had the biggest legnth dispersion results. def the shortest but also he second longest on a single oomph hit.
    - Diamana boron stinger was next.
longest single blow. tightest dispersion laterally but second biggest legnth dispersion. when i top it a bit , its a proper worm buner BUT not as bad as the crazy. miss left, right on the face and i wasnt getting punished THAT bad. wasnt great of ocurse but yea none went ob they were all on first cut. totally acceptable. flight is low mid. its hard to launch this high even with high tee it just prefers to go flat and straight, i have enormous confidence reaching for this bec. i know im just never going to get munched with it and when i get into the ball proper i get FULL reward with distance. this has been so for years with so many heads ive had on them, the jbeam 435 70x ive got and never changed is STLL my go to for the longest courses i play as much as i try all.. theres a reason thsi thing is never out of reach. granted it doesn feel that good esp in the jbeam, in the yam it livens up a lot, in the kamui its awsome.. but for this test its a great match with the ENDO head. -Last of course was the 7d
its funny bec. i play this the least of all my drivers. 7d has a feel to it quite unlike others , it i was going to say the closest it wud be the matrix tp6hd.
i get this to soar, its laterally moveable both ways to a NON insignificant degree nad for sure its THE most consistant build of the lot of them, i dont get the huge distance i can get with the boron but if grouping is key, this is the lock for that.
they go left , right more than the other build for sure but theres never a 30 yard distance gap i can almost go and put the ball to a disntace but i never find i get a "wow" moment with it for length , the wow factor with my 7d comes by moving it in the air more easily then walking up to the ball all the time and know its in play to where i was trying to put it. i tend to pay this when i play fwd tees or when its set. the extra carry and workabilty is its defining character for me.

  • In this company , as a daily driver id choose the 7d followed by the X .
7d gives me a tickle unlike the rest, theres an extra spice to it the others have less of bec its more moveable BUT.. id reach for the X when i want to play comp or the stinger when i play long.
the crazy is going to get DFA's it jsut cant hang , it needs a diffstyle head.
i have NO doubt that overall when i want to go fo he longest starighets shots, the boron is the answer. its been so long ago and as recent as a few days back it still so.

it also prob helps when at release of the latest offfering came out from diamana at the trade show in 2018 the head shaft designer of MITSUB CHEM tells me to stock up on as many X and BORON as i can find coz they wont be making them again.........................................
