Just back from my 5 driver shootout including the P-Tune

- Mizuno 611 9* / Diamana B 70 X

- Yamaha V203 9* / Tour AD GT-6 S

- Epon Zero / Waccine Compo GR-88 TS

- P-Tune PG313 9* / WBQ Max 75 SX

- Srixon ZR-30 8.5* / Crazy Boron X

While I love having multiple divers and rotating thru different clubs, and I really like all of these divers

I am trying to cut down to 3 drivers.

Here are my feedback for distance, forgiveness, workability, looks, feel, sound

- Distance champion goes to Epon Zero. but only when I can pure it :-) PTune is a close 2nd

- Forgivess goes to PTune. all the rest are slightly more demanding.

- Workability goes to Epon Zero with the rest a bit less sensitive to deliberate swings.

- Looks. honestly they all look good, :-) but overall preference goes to V203

- Feel at impact. Epon Zero had the softest impact.

- Sound, I 'd have to go with the Yamaha on this one. Reminds me of Titleist 983k. Nicely muted but not dead.

I think I will try a different shaft in the Yamaha and see if I can dial in the ball flight.

It is some how very low launching with the stock shaft....

The P tune is that good huh? That's a pretty stacked lineup, surprised the lighter softer GT6 stiff in the Yam head wasn't the least demanding for ya.

I picked up the Ptune from Yourpressed in the BST. Has the Qudarfire express 65S shaft on it. Took it the range yesterday to see how it stacks up against the Syard T.388 and the Ryoma D1. As far as forgiveness goes it is as good as the Ryoma. Distance wise it is as long as both the Syard and the Ryoma. Ball flight with this set up is mid/low with great accuracy. Almost point and shoot. I will use it this weekend on the course and see how it stacks up under pressure.

You were quick on the trigger on that one. Looking forward to your review and if it don't work out for you, send me a PM.

I see you are playing 6.2 in your D1. If you are comfortable with this, I think the 65S will be a bit too much. Will be interested to hear how you fair distance wise with a slightly softer flex shaft in the P-Tune. It does look interesting and has got me curious.

Actually the 65S feels better then the 6.2. I feel as if the 65S is smoother and more comfortable, Always thought the 6.2 was a tad soft, but since the results were good I never bothered with trying something new. When the opportunity came to try the ptune with the 65s I jumped at it. After just one session it does seem to fit well to me. My Swing speed is around 100MPH. After a few more sessions I may need to change the shaft in the Ptune.

Akapur, welcome to the P-Tune Club! P-Tune is sitting tight in my bag now for close to 4 months.

For me, that is the longest time a single driver held the ace position in recent years,

I have a Yamaha V203 / Diamana B and a Tourstage 709 / FE MAX WBQ that I am testing out tomorrow.

I am pretty confident at this point that P-Tune will be staying in the bag for the local tournament this weekend, but we shall see.

On the longer term I do need a back up driver ... so if these two don't work out, I may just end up ordering another PG313!!

Thanks, I am pleased so far with the Ptune. Surprised how little it is talked about on this site. Definitely as good if not better then the other JDM drivers I have bought over the years.

I was happy to get it and so far am very pleased with the way it plays for me. Definitely a solid driver with length and forgiveness.

Sure. I'll get some comparo pics tonight.

BTW, I hit the X drive 709 / WBQ Combo today and this thing is a monster.

Not really a workable driver like the P-Tune but it goes straight and long.

Such an automatic driver!! I am seriously considering putting it in play for the local tournament this weekend.

Yamaha V203 / Diamana B still launches way too low for me. I guess that is just how it is.

Every driver I have ever hit, I always needed the lowest loft available. EXCEPT for Yamaha Tour drivers.

Tried a 4.6V RPM in 9* earlier this summer and now the V203 in 9*

These heads are such low launching.

I really do love the shape as well as feel and sound of the 203, so I think I will be giving up on the 9* to find a 10* deg head instead.

Back to the P-Tune discussion :)

I think this driver provides a perfect balance between distance and control.

It is a 440cc semi shallow head. It is visually confidence inspiring and not intimidating.

Launches fairly easy, feel and sound are close to being perfect.

( For me, V203 is the perfect driver from a shape, feel and sound perspective, I just can't hit it well :( )

For those of you looking for a players driver with good balance of forgiveness and workability,

I highly recommend giving the P-Tune a try.

You have the WBQ in the P-tune as well Nob? Thinking that's your shaft there mate, seems like whatever you game it in works like a charm.

i'm beginning to think anything with the wbq is silly long and straight. i play a flex weaker than i should according to ss numbers but the more i go after it the more it says "is that all you got!".

I would agree on the silly long and straight, but if the head is a high launcher then shaft not necessarily a good fit.

Yup, I was just thinking about that.

Though sadly the Maxima did not work so well even with the WBQ.

I feel that this WBQ shaft is one of the most neutral behaving shafts out there.

It has no weird behavior at all. What you do as the operator, is reflected in the result.

Regarding the flex, I agree that it seems to cover a very wide range of SS.

My first WBQ was a 65 Stiff and I had no issues swinging at 110.

I now use a 75 SX in the P-Tune and 65 X in the Tourstage and they both seem to work well with my SS.

The original Fire Express is an excellent shaft as well, and then came the Proto which I think they over did some stuff. ( made it a bit twitchy )

Then with WBQ, they dialed it in just right.

I might need to get another for the Yamaha...

They also recently released an FW shaft with the same color scheme called the Type D .

Not sure of the characteristics, but as a Fire Express fanatic, I should try it out,

The proto works great for me, but only in 75SX, my favorite FEX, seems tailor made for me, totally neutral and predictable.... Every single other flex/weight in the proto though gets a bit inconsistent. The FEX works pretty well in different weights and flexes but not quite as well as the 75SX proto. Want to give the WBQ a go, I'm just hung up on the Diamana Stinger and X at the moment, haven't wanted to try that much else since hitting these.

The Proto UT is mighty fine as well, I have it in Stiff and it goes a bit high, might have been better off with an X but the Stiff does handle my swing quite admirably.

2 rounds with the P-tune this weekend and I am still happy with the results. This driver is very workable. It has an unusual blend of forgiveness and workability. Crazy long. the WBQ 65S suits me and this head very well. Will see if this honeymoon period leads to consistent results over the next couple of weeks.
