Posted April 1, 201311 yr I've had a few extra Japan only Odyssey Tour iX Black Series putters since they were released. I would just rotate them in and out of the bag as time went on, I was always a big fan of the original Tri Hot back in it's day. I liked one of them so much I sent it to Master Sasaya to see what he could do, It was the #2 model. This post will go through the process as it's not so often people send in Odyssey putters. Although there was a big deal when Ryo Ishikawa had extended his sight line and then everyone contacted Gold's Factory to do the same. It's never easy removing the insert then measuring and creating a new insert that fits perfectly out of metal but thats what needed to be done. I am also still a big fan of the Original PZ milling, I like the way it feels and rolls the ball. Here are some pictures of the putter in it's stock form then throughout the process. Brand New: In Pieces: Brand label removed tungsten still in tact. Tungsten removed: Insert removed and custom insert test fitting. New Multi layer material face insert using Aluminum + German Silver. More to come...
April 2, 201311 yr that look beter already. i think odyssey needs to put more swirls and swooshes and exclamation marks. not enough on them really.
April 2, 201311 yr Still not sure how this makes it a better putter? More attractive, yes, better? Maybe it's all in the mind? What's the cost of this process?
April 2, 201311 yr No different than taking your car and putting some nice tires and rims on it. Even if the rims aren't lighter (less un sprung weight) and the tires wider (better traction) it sure looks better. In this case knowing how much better the PZ milling feels and gets the ball rolling better I can believe there is a lot of improvement besides looks. I'd be surprised if we haven't all bought a putter because of looks. I know I've not bought a putter because of the way it looks. Yes, it has to work but I'd be willing to bet this putter rolls the ball better now.
April 2, 201311 yr Putting is ALL about confidence so if the putter you already love is dressed up in black tie attire and better looking, simply gives you more confidence.
April 2, 201311 yr Author I'm doing it mostly for it's looks and feel It will also be slightly heavier and I'm having it balanced with all my angles dialed in.
