RIduffer
Just got the first few holes in with the new TS909. Having played a set of TS905 in the past and some of the ramblings Stew and I have expressed about its strengths and shortcomings I am very happy with the evolution. The main complaints I had about the 905 were that it was a little bit too crisp and did not seem to be heavy enough. While being very communicative of contact quality and location it was only a tad on the correct side of harsh for everything but the purest of strikes. Ball flight was good and the aesthetic of the iron is top notch. The 909, while a very different aesthetic, satinized vs shiny and solid vs demure they seem to hang on to the right performance characteristics and tweaked the bad ones. They are still very communicative about where on the face the ball is struck but now it is a much denser feeling on contact. Even on off center strikes it is still a solid compression feel as opposed to the click of chrome. The heads also seem to have more heft to them, probably contributing to the softer denser feel. The general size is retained and angles of the head are preserved. The muscle, however is a different shape and a hair more toe side of center. If I could get the feel, heft and finish of the 909 in the shape and muscle placement of the 905 I'd have my one iron to rule them all. The turf interaction with these seems to be fairly similar to the 905s. While I am going on a fading memory of the grind and sole as well as divots taken with the 905 it does seem to be consistent between the two. There is a slightly blunted leading edge as well as a modest amount of back end relief. Overall thickness of the sole is very thin and the resulting divots are only 4 or 5 inches long and not very deep. That is a very nice thing especially when the ground is soft. With some of my other irons I have been known to take some sizable divots. On the course today, I was able to take dead aim and the ball flight had a nice piercing trajectory and seemed to fall out of the sky. I am fond of that particular flight path especially with the shorter irons. Came in right over the flag stick on a few holes and on other holes was hitting the safe spots on greens. Overall a tremendous execution on a great iron.
gocchin
Glad to hear it Steve... you are one of the lucky ones to get a set. Here in Japan they tout it as a huge improvement over the 905 and they pretty much sold out...

You have just about everything in rotation Stew, so why should these be any different. But seriously, the 909s are a huge step forward from the 905s in feel and performance, at least for me after 1 round. If I were only going to play them a couple of times per year I probably wouldn't spend the money on them, but if there was a weekly rotation then I'd toss the 905s and move to these. I have the Recoil 125 F4 tipped to ~F5 in the 5-7 and F5 8-P in them.
MoreBeerBetterGolf
How do you compare them to the Pro Forged?
tae
How do you compare them to the Pro Forged? Pro forged is more forgiving and little bit longer. And pro forged is little softer as well. But when struck well, TS reminded me a miura bb....... and of course TS is a lot more forgiving than bb. TS is truely a nice club!!
MoreBeerBetterGolf
I was trying to decide between these and pro forged and opted for the RomaRo and couldn't be happier but you know how it is. Always the wandering eye. Based on my preference and your reviews I think I made the right choice for me. The RomaRo are gorgeous, surprisingly forgiving, and feel splendid on well struck shots. Long too for their lofts.
tae
Yup..... I believe you made a right choice. For me, pro forged and crazy mb were very similar.... So I just decided to keep crazy mb and changed pro forged to H. Besides, I have cbi 80 in crazy mb so I couldn't give it up. :) Anyway, for some reason romaros are longer than other clubs for their loft. MoreBeerBetterGolf
I'm pretty convinced the RomaRo blade and Crazy blade are the same mold just different tweaks. Makes sense. I just prefer the aesthetics of RomaRo blade. Good stuff!

gocchin
Wow, truth in advertising does exist… It is a huge improvement over the 905... What I meant was the consumers ie golfers who have purchased the 909 tout the iron as a huge improvement. Of course the manufacturer would say that too! We only have one set left 5-PW DG S200. All we could get and the last set after yours and Tae's.
Blader-X
Any chance of getting more pics of these? Just some sweet looking irons.

RIduffer
Any chance of getting more pics of these? Just some sweet looking irons. I am anticipating a formal porn layout of the Pro Forged, 909, and Yam Tours for comparison sake. Any particular shot/angle you are after? But when struck well, TS reminded me a miura bb....... and of course TS is a lot more forgiving than bb. TS is truely a nice club!! Not sure I would agree on the length and forgiveness comment. Again I now have a whopping 23 holes in with the TS vs a full season with the Pro Forged so am still figuring all this out. Club for club distance and forgiveness it is splitting hairs. Feel wise, I would agree the Pro Forged are softer on off center hits but solid contact on both is sublime. The Miura BB was harsher than either on non pured shots, but when it came to dead center the BB might be one of the best ever for me. I believe what Matt meant was both are from himeji??? They look different but play very similar for sure.
