Posted June 10, 201311 yr I'm always switching putters once one goes flat on me, or me on it. In rotation for a long time has been a custom 2 ball center shaft, a RomaRo Barque center shaft, and recently the Odyssey Black Series Tour iX anser putter. I always send my putters into Sasaya-san at Gold's Factory not only for aesthetic mods but also balance and spec adjustments. Master Sasaya always adjusts the face angle, lie, loft, shaft, grip and balance of a putter. This Odyssey putter was an interesting challenge for him. Its part tungsten and 303 with an insert. So the putter was taken apart worked over well and sent to the finisher. I'm very happy with the results a couple of rounds in. The putter started as a 340g head and now its near the requested 370. The insert is made of two layers, Aluminum and German Silver, Master Sasaya recommended this for interesting firm/soft feel.
June 10, 201311 yr Dam I thought you were selling this when I saw the thread title. Just an awesome looking putter!!! So jealous
June 11, 201311 yr It never ceases to amaze me as to what Golds can achieve. Must admit though looking at the insert for too long makes my eyes spin
June 11, 201311 yr That horizontal milling on the face looks deadly. After a long side by side with the Kitada and GS, I'm if the view that for ME, the horizontal milling gives the best and truest roll for MY stroke.
June 11, 201311 yr That's interesting. Part of what I didn't like about the Yururi Nantetsu was the horizontal milling. I don't know if it's specific to that putter face, but I found it was so grabby that a stroke which would normally produce the best forward roll would actually drive the ball down into the ground causing excessive bounce. It WAS great for putting side spin on the ball, if that's your style.

It WAS great for putting side spin on the ball, if that's your style. Why would you assume that others would put side spin on putts perhaps presumably like you? Different strokes for different folks. If you are "driving the ball down into the ground", it is highly likely the loft was not right for your stroke and not the milling or ball position or too much forward press. Just some possibilities for you to consider. Side spin... hmmm.. hard to see how horizontal mill would do that... the new PZ mill with grooves on all directions is more likely to cause that but it did not for me on my Kitada. Different strokes...
June 11, 201311 yr wow gorgeous putter!!!! this thread is making me want to modify my tourstage center shafted putter. about the horizontal milling, i have read on geoff mangum book that horizontal milling reduces the dimple error on putting, especially on short putts.

June 12, 201311 yr Private stock no 2 with sound box and ff ust shaft with winn jumbo lite Awsome stck
June 12, 201311 yr Author Have you guys noticed that the decal in the back cavity is gone? We gave it a stock look thats custom by re-engraving ODYSSEY on it. I also love the open face angle of the revised specs when you get your putter back. That alone has helped me make many more short straight putts.
January 6, 201411 yr Author Still using this? Looks soooo good! No I'm not it sold several inventory sales ago. I'm considering having the mallet version of this series done up a similar way.
January 7, 201411 yr Author Such a nice insert. U got me thinking, I wonder if feel changes between a large sized insert vs small. I would assume so.
January 7, 201411 yr That's exactly the same question I want to find out too, I've always doubt the different between small insert and large as well as full face insert.
January 7, 201411 yr U got me thinking, I wonder if feel changes between a large sized insert vs small. I would assume so. Also, do inserts feel less solid than one piece heads? I never got a solid feel with my GD A1SP.
January 7, 201411 yr Author Also, do inserts feel less solid than one piece heads? I never got a solid feel with my GD A1SP. Kinda I think.. The A1SP ya know that thing was pretty rare as well, not many made but it had this higher tone tink to that insert. GF makes inserts that do super solid feel and have made some that don't depending on custom design. I think when Craig has time he can add value here as he has an SM490A head with a mid size round edges insert in it, not sure if its damascus or what but some of these guys like idrive as well have enough putters with inserts to make some good comparisons.

Maybe I should resurrect the A1SP. Definitely needs a new insert though and more weight… and a refinish… and a sightline...
