mygreenaliem
Thought this might be interesting for the members. For some time now I have been having some "weird" shots happen with my playing irons (Crazy ltd MB with Crazy target tour 120 S). By weird, I mean a shot that had no pattern to it - would go right or left, high or low or even worse, hit the ground first! It was upsetting me a lot, having spent countless hours on the range practicing. We all want to know our misses, but I could not! I spent time with my coach and he witnessed these shots but in his eyes, the swing was the same for each. A few weeks back, I was filmed on the range for a golf app and I was lucky enough to be sent the video and photos. On the videos I was able to view the swing in a speed which showed the shafts flexing at parts of the swing it should not be and sent these to Tario for comment and as suspected, he confirmed the flexing was not right and more than likely the result of my "weird" shots. I really like the Crazy Shafts and was gutted, so asked Tario if there were any X around - thank fully he found some, albeit no 3 iron shaft. I had one fitted to my 7 iron and went to the range. Felt a lot more stiffer and heavier even though same swing weight (D2). After a few swings to get my timing, pretty much every shot exactly the same and what was very exciting is the flight - each one the same as the previous. Had all the clubs swapped over and have had one driving range session but the flight on each club is excellent and have to say impressive. The ball flight is higher but more penetrating and just what I want. So, back to range to put the hours in to get used to the new shafts, but hopefully I have now eliminated the "weird"; just the "bad" to get rid of now... Foot note - Crazy target Tours in S, smoke finish for sale (3 - PW)..... Edited August 7, 2013 by mygreenaliem
JayDM
That is an interesting story, mind if I ask how often weird shots were happening with the Stiff flex shafts?
+TourSpecGolfer
Yea I was having the same issue with a couple different types of shafts and it ultimately lead me to stop fitting myself based on flex and swing speed and more so the result. I had to go up in flex which killed a bit of the feel for me but things are more steady now. I know a lot of people who are in the same boat and in the past have jumped to another shaft thinking well its my flex and it isn't working so its gotta be the shaft but timing is the key. Need to have a shaft that matches your timing properly and as close as possible on even bad days.
mygreenaliem
That is an interesting story, mind if I ask how often weird shots were happening with the Stiff flex shafts? Not at all. TBH it was random and with different clubs - hence the frustration and pain at good rounds being ruined and when on the range those "where did that come from?" moments..... of course I realise it was not always the club! JayDM
I hear ya, I've had similar experiences, more so with woods than irons and wedges, you step on it, flush it and your thinking to yourself "man this is going to be great" and all of a sudden you get some strange ball flight that has you shaking your head and wondering what could have possibly went wrong. I'm surprised it happened with the Target Tour iron shafts though, I have a few 120 Stiff sets and I've always felt them to be one of the truest steel shafts around, could always handle whatever I threw at them. Happy to hear you got everything sorted moving to an X.
Spoon
Wow, hey carl i had your old target tour s flex and found them very stiff even though i am a stiff user. This was most likely due to the kickpoint. I fair better w midkick shafts. Intersting story, i have ried stiffer truer shafts and could never get the timing right. Always thinking To give more juice due to flex and it just ruins my rythm and tempo.

When I first tried them I felt I needed to really give them the beans but found it far better to swing within myself and away they went - all sweetness and light! The great thing is I can also now give them the beans and get an extra few yards of necessary - they don't spin up and balloon!

mygreenaliem
Played a few holes today - quite windy too. Very positive. Strong flights and path as per range session so encouraging. Ball landing on greens one hop and stop or slight back spin. Will keep you posted.
Spoon
Is it just me or are target tour rythm shafts? I have to deliberetly ease of the juice To make them work? Not a full throttle kind of shaft?? I really want these to work
mauvanilla
I have X on the Epons I used to play to S on Crazy Air and MB ... The X was a bit longer but it was quite demanding on the swing. I am quite happy with the S setup, easy to play, easy to control, easy to shape and if needed full throttle works well.

Not a full throttle kind of shaft?? I really want these to work I've found that both the Crazy Target Tour's and Shimada shafts have a very particular feel(or almost lack of feel?) that takes a bit of getting used to, if your not used to it you tend to feel the need to over swing as they're both VERY smooth, they aren't dead, but they aren't lively, tough to describe. Once you get the idea with em though they're awesome shafts for just that reason, you just don't have to worry about the shaft at all, just smooth and consistent. supo
when i tested a bunch of shafts in my miuraisms. the best suited for my swing which is pretty smoth methodical. its not fast and those heads were clearly the shimada tour 120 stiffs. i went thru dgs300/s200 (errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg...!) ns modus 3 120s Ns sp blue and orange. ( orange were next best) there were more but i cant htink.. anyway i took the shimadas out to one of the toughtest courses ive ever played on the central coast of NSW. called magenta shores. BRUTEISH....! (think kiwah island/whistling striaghts kinda style. )and the shafts were so perfect all my worries were immedaitly alleviated. the stiffs actualy l feel pretty good ,the X are a bit tougher and tighter. they dont like to be cut or drawn too much ive found, the stiffs , tho...., were very nice and as J says u dont need to worry about them they arent high /low /short balloony, they just work well. and they look great with the white decals. as for NS....., well the new modus 130s ,might be a real winner with t players who like heavier shafts
Spoon
I agree with J. The times they did work I was swinging in a speed window once I went over the shafts would not load and felt awful BUT in that window they were spectacular. Just not the type to want to change swing to suit the shaft. I don't get that prob with my monacos or any Nippon. Il still give these another shot I I can still find some
