+TourSpecGolfer
After my time with these I think it boils down to the shaft again. The Messenger shafted drivers I have are longer distance overall than the stock shaft combo on the Nitro or Foamed Kamui. In fact my Tour Authentic Legacy Black with Speeder 661 is longer and more stable so it's gotta be a case of superior shaft. I predict the Kamui + Messenger or Boron will be a beast. I get a slightly better trajectory consistently with more roll using the foam version. After the first 2 rounds the novelty of the foam feel has worn off and I prefer the Nitro's feel. The trajectory & spin of the Kamui with the stock shaft is not stable enough thus it comes down to the shaft again. I'm putting my xXx Messenger into the nitro and have a round scheduled mid day today. I don't believe it's longer than the others, I've been saying 10+ yds longer so many times I should be hitting it 400yds by now. When the next Kamui comes out we will be saying its 10yds further than the last. For me the shaft matters most, then CG height and position in a head, then specs. The last time I saw a real 15 to 20 yard increase in distance consistently was when I upgraded front the AF101 to the Ryoma D1. That was possible as I gamed the 101 for quite a few years and during that time, there was real technology enhancement in driver heads. Frankly after that, to get a similar increase in distance is tough for me as there is very little amongst all the new heads and shafts. It then boils down to finding the right combo that suits the swing. But any head or shaft on its own to yield more distance if you are playing the latest tech is gonna be tough.. real tough. +TourSpecGolfer
I had my round today with Crazy Boron in the Kamui Nitro. It improved performance substantially. Much more laser. carry remained about the same but roll increased and overall I was much more happy with it over the stock shaft. The 9.5 Kamui Nitro vs the 9.0 Tour Authentic Callaway Legacy Black. Legacy Black was consistently longer in carry and roll but in feel the Kamui smoked the cally. That said I'm starting to get the gist that boutique JDM brands really have superb feel. robbie
a good builder should not even worry about the foam. seriously. and shouldnt be using a torch either with graphite shafts and better yet woods. as long as your careful then its really not an issue. its better to be safe than sorry, whether u use a micro torch or a heat gun, the heat is cumulative and metal is a good conductor, it may be safe to reshaft a 1000X without any damage but since i dont know, i will use a wet towel to minimize heat transfer to the head and a minimum amount of heat ! +TourSpecGolfer
Even great club makers can have trouble with foamed heads if it's simply heated too many times. It's not a matter of torch vs heat gun. I don't know any club maker who uses a torch on woods. The foam just breaks down over time and a rattle is created.
