Gday chaps.

I am about to have a Tour AD SF 6 fitted to my Romaro hex black driver 9*, finished length will be 45.5".

Could you give any experience and advice on fairway shafts in to driver heads, it is something I have always wanted to try...!

Thanks Brian

Never even thought trying it, I've put driver shafts into FW's, I've thought about trying both FW and driver shafts in utilities, but never even popped into my head to try a FW shaft into a driver, the SF's are good FW shafts though. What are you looking to get out of the install? or is it just an experiment that popped into your head and you just wanna see how it turns out?

Yea why not! My m8 still uses s300 on his Driver & fw :)

let us know how it works

Yep something like that...I had heard someone say that if you get the right FW shaft it can work very well in a driver as they are designed for heavier heads, Im guessing it might be slightly more accurate...only a guess though.

Will be glued tonight so will game it Wednesday, fairly eager to see the results though.

Will keep you posted.

Cool :)

Ok chaps

I gamed the Romaro hex black today with the AD SF 6 shaft,

FEEL: Wow the results were very unexpected, the shaft felt so solid through the transition at the top of the back swing (not loose at all), but even more surprising was the feeling as it released through the hitting zone (Smooth and powerful)

FLIGHT & DISTANCE: The flight was mid and very penetrating and actually reminded me of a 3w flight and or the T388, distance was slightly better than average but heaps of run and then some more.

The accuracy was also very good when a good swing was made. i have a tendency to fade the ball.....this didn't fade any more than some of my more accurate drivers.

This was just an experiment and i only used it on 6-7 holes but the results were definitely better than I had expected, I will game it a few times more to be sure, I might even keep this build together as something different in the locker.

I would definitely recommend trying this as the shaft will never be cut to short for its real purpose, give it a go chaps and let me know how you go, I think you will be pleasantly surprised...! :tsg_smiley_geek: Great Scott it works..!

I

You actually go out and buy a sf shaft for this experiment or just happen to have a spare to fool around?

Just a spare ; ), but it would not hurt to buy and try as you could always go down to a fairway wood length, or even try it next time you buy a new FW shaft b4 you have it fitted. Its like how many times do we all change shafts, heads, swing weights and so on, we spend a fortune in the pursuit of perfection so this is just the same as all experiments really.

Would defo recommend it as I said, my reasoning was that FW shafts are made to carry a heavier head so in theory could be more stable infarct with a driver head, this does seem to be the case.

Did you have the shaft extended? Was the shaft tipped to play in a FW before you installed it in your driver? I want to play my next driver at 44". The head will be heavy at around 210g. Would love to try a FW shaft that played 43" and just have it extended an inch.

No tip required as specialist fairway but did extend an inch as played epon 202 HT in 3w at 43.5" so made the driver 45.5" with extension, FW heads are usually quite a bit heavier so should easy handle the extra weight.

Nice work B :) saw that shaft on ebay, lucky it didn't sell.

Haha...yep she is the one, very glad I didn't let it go for crazy money for sure, just glad I didn't let it go at all now.

The SF line is a very underrated and I believe much under appreciated shaft. I've got one in a hybrid and its simply stellar. Interesting seeing it in a driver but I don't doubt its usefullness there at all. Thanks for sharing.

To easy...thanks all, MMM hybrid hey, I have just started building my own gear and have heaaaaaps of surplice shafts so might have to try a FW in a hybrid next...!
