Posted March 3, 201410 yr Got this head from another member off BST.... Was just gonna shaft it up and play it this summer since I've never played a JDM driver before. Then was thinking...maybe should refinish it since it's a little scuffed up. Maybe a matte grey paint so I can be cool like everyone else! Asked the shop that was rebuilding my Epon irons and found out that it was gonna be more than the head cost me! Then decided to ask one of my co-workers who has a bead blaster to remove all the paint and see how much the bodyshop I know would charge. My buddy had to use aircraft paint remover to get the paint off before the bead material would even scratch it. He told me that it was the best powder coat paint he's ever seen (JDM quality for ya). Even before I got it back I knew that it would look good devoid of any paint...so I've decided to play it naked! Just surprised that the face is also grey like the rest of the body. Thought that the face was the natural titanium finish. Anybody know if blasting the finish off the face will affect play?
March 3, 201410 yr that is nice !!! i might put a protective clear coating on the crown but thats about it !
March 3, 201410 yr That looks great. As Supo said maybe a little paintfill here and there. I game the same head so you've given me some ideas. Thanks for posting.
March 4, 201410 yr Author Just dipping my toes into the JDM market. Gonna play this head as is to get a feel for Jap drivers. Actually have an eye towards another head but want to see differences compared to US drivers first. Will report back on how it plays/wears etc. Just bloody waiting for the friggin snow/cold to stop!! Actually more jazzed about my rebuilt Epon AF tours!!
March 4, 201410 yr As a newbie to JDM products (6 months) I can assure you that you'll experience a level of feel, quality and performance like never before. Good luck and great posting ~ thanks for sharing
March 5, 201410 yr Looks great - and removing the face finish won't affect performance in any way. Maybe some black paintfill on the inpres on the sole and in the face grooves... Very nice matte blasted finish - thing is Titanium, while very strong, is not very hard so scratches fairly easily... so use your headcover! (Or find an Engineering company who does Nitriding and get it nitrided - will give it an extremely hard surface.)
