stevopagolf
Anyone try these yet? I am a certified VG3 fan boy. Iron have been in the bag for the longest time of any set of clubs I have had, tinkered but never strayed. I want to hear a comparison to the 2010. Pretty sure that the 2010's stay another year firmly in the bag. They still look great! I know Tario was awaiting some demos..... anyone else get theirs? +TourSpecGolfer
Many of the new drivers & UT's have sold, only a few sets of the 2014 iron have although I am not sure if they were to forum posters or not. The Demo's are at Tario's office but we are still in Himeji this week so it may be some time.

Henry
I just received my "box" today. Of course, I am like a kid in a candy store when the box arrives. I did not have my 2012 VG3's handy to do a side by side comparison but I can tell you the 2014 model is much much better looking in hand than what the pictures have shown. Initial looks seem to show slightly thinner top line.My biggest concern was the width of the sole. I can say its no different than the 2012 model and may be even a tad less wide. Also, the overall size of the club may be more compact in appearance but I really need to look at both models in hand. In my opinion, there is absolutley no uglyness (that was another concern based upon previously posted pictures) to this club and am looking forward to hitting them when this winter finally ends! We still have snow on the ground in Rochester (NY) so it may be several more weeks. Edited March 21, 2014 by Henry
stevopagolf
Good to know. I would like more compact and thinner sole! I know RaChaCha pretty well, it could be June!

Henry
Hey Stevo, Just had another 8 inches of snow in Rochester! Will be a few more weeks until I test them. Be happy to post side by side pics with the 2012 if you want. After comparing them, the hosel appears to be a little longer along with the ferrule for the 2014 model. Again, I think the 2014 model is ever so slightly more compact with a tad slightly thinner top line.

Henry
In another post, I said these club were a definite improvement over previous models. I find them easier to hit than the 2012 model. Seem to be more automatic and the ball seems to be more "springy" when hit. If you are worried about the looks, don't be. I think the original pictures published did not do the clubs justice. Looks are just fine. Overall, a well balanced game improvement iron. I have now practiced with these irons for about 2 weeks. I know there is always a "honeymoon" period and know we typically love our new clubs until the next model comes out. With that being said, I have to say these are the best set of irons I have ever hit (previous new models include JPX,Tourstage and 2012 VG3). I have never hit an iron like this that has a "spring like" effect when hit. The ball just rockets off the club like no other iron I have ever hit. Not sure if I am getting more distance and not sure if going to a lighter (NSPro 850 in R flex) shaft has anyting to do with it but can state these irons are really something special for me. Curious to get Tario's view when he reviews these irons on the spring like effect I am getting or others who have tried the 2014 model. Henry
As an update, although I have had some bad rounds with these clubs as the result of bad swings (me!), I still say these are the best irons I have hit and still have that "spring like" effect when hit on the sweet spot. I am getting a few extra yards off these clubs compared to the 2012 VG3's but that could be the result of the lighter shaft. Again, these are something special and I would recommend them.! twice
I received my set of these a few weeks ago. I put the 6iron through it's paces today on a launch monitor this morning. These clubs are long, and the feel, to me, is amazing. They feel both very soft, and springy. Which are characteristics I'm not sure were synonymous with each other in the past. With a 6 iron, mid 80s mph club head speed, and a swing that launches the ball too high (still having difficulty keeping my wrists cocked on the down swing) I got 165-168y carry and a 172-175y total. Drawing the ball I averaged total distance in the mid-high 180s. On one miss hit, that I didn't even initially pay any attention to I thought it was so bad, carried 150y and flew less than 10 yards offline. I ordered my set with the Dynamic Gold S200. This shaft feels a little light to me, and I haven't seen how stable the ball flight is in the wind, but the clubs feel good enough that wouldn't feel bad about having paying to have them reshafted. Although I am regretting not ordering them with S300.
nudgeegolf
wow these are very nice looking - great photos above. what sw do these play at std length for those that have a set already (what shaft) also are the long irons easy to hit? cheers
stevopagolf
I can tell you the 2010 model long irons are incredibly easy to hit. I have the 2010 version in the bag for 4 years. Never had a set of irons for that long. I put Aerotech steelfibers in mine. Initially, i had NSPro 95 in them. They play off a five iron at 38 inches standard. nudgeegolf
Stevo, Thanks for the reply - I think I will take the plunge. At what Swingweight does the 5 iron play at? Cheers J Edited June 1, 2014 by nudgeegolf

twice
Stevo, Thanks for the reply - I think I will take the plunge. At what Swingweight does the 5 iron play at? Cheers J With the NSPro 95 they're D1. With S200 they're D2
nudgeegolf
thx guys - i have a set coming my way and need to think what shafts will go in them as S200 is not my ideal shaft. thinking either aerotech or project x pxi i hope they are as good as guys say, they do look stunning and forgiving
stevopagolf
I put Aerotech in mine. Had the builder get head weight to D2. In fact, I am upgrading my aerotech to the players spec. They are very well matched to these heads. I had to go to 38.5 inches in the 5 iron to get some swing weight to D2. He also added some tip weights in the hosel when needed. +TourSpecGolfer
I have a demo iron of the 2014 VG3, holy smokes! It's gotta be one of the best if not the best iron in this player segment. Awesome feel, long, super easy to hit, it lacks a bit of feedback but I don't mind. Another shocker was the VG3 driver, we brought in the 10.5 and 9.5. FYI they are both different shapes kinda like the Modart D & S. I'm hitting them both well. These drivers are great.
Henry
As the season comes to an end in Upstate New York, I just want to say after spending the summer with these irons, they will definetly stay in the bag for 2015. First time in a long time that I will play the same irons over a 2 year period! These irons continue to amaze me. They feel both very soft, and springy and I consider them "automatic", nothing hard about these irons. I still will recommend them to anyone that is looking for a great set of cavity back forged irons. Edited September 5, 2014 by Henry
