Anyone have feedback on Tourstage 909 Driver

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Like the title says - does anyone have any experience with this driver. It's had my attention for some time, and I kept expecting to read about on this forum, but as far as I know nobody has posted a review.

Interested in how it stacks up against the yamaha v203 and possibly the JDM SLDR 430 tp. Thanks

yea i had a hit with it a cpl of weeks back.

zero.

so no surprises.

ahhhhh its like all the pro drivers from tourstage

its aimed stricktly a the best palyers .

its small. compact, slighyl pear shaped from meory

hit a LOW piercing drive that goes miles,.

can do anything u lik to the ball if ur good enough.

had the diamana B 70s in it and it was still a tough ask to get consistantly . when i did get it tho boy it went well, i killed it .

but . id back no one has/will hit it.

id play it for sure, but i dont know over what.

if u hit a good ,long, hard ,ball consitantly out of the middle, id say DEF give it a go. it cetainly felt good

Thanks for the reply! I've noticed tourstage drivers get no love around here. I think you are right - only good ball striking and higher swing speeds need apply for most of the x-drive line. They def need higher swings to make them sing. I'm currently playing a srixon p-420 from a few years back and it is the same way. My friends that have hit the club can't get it airborn and it's a 10.5. My ball speeds are ridiculously good with the srixon. I recently had a fitting for a SLDR 430 stateside b/c of the hype and the srixons balls speeds were consistantly 1-2 mph faster. Launch and spin were so close they were a non issue. The only thing about the srixon that annoys me is that it seems to sit a hair closed. In reality it probably isn't I'm just used to playing drivers 1-2* open so the illusion is there. The tourstage seems to have a lot going for it. Smallish pear shape at address - epon forged - and I can set the face angle open with the adapter. Think I'll have to pick one up.

Here's something interesting, I've been going back and fourth with TourStage on specs looking for a driver for a customer who absolutely needs an open face angle. The answer was that every Tourstage driver has a slightly closed face even if it's listed as square and set in the neutral position.

So I took a look at the 709 430 and 450 that I recently sold in inventory and it looks square to my eye, then I sat it next to the Modart D and the tourstage looked a hair closed.

I knew there was something about this driver. It is all business. It's 420cc's but the deep face and pear shape hide the volume. I would have guessed it was smaller if I didn't already know the specs. I had my first range session with it today, and I am very impressed. I will save a larger review after I've played a round or two, but my first impression it that this is a low spin bomber. I was hitting into a variable wind that was constant and ranged from 10-15 mph. This is a condition I play in quite a bit down here on the coast of South Carolina. My driver swing speed is ranges from 115-117. I've always had trouble keeping spin down. This driver killed the spin - I can't think of one drive that Ballooned into the wind out of 40 or so swings with this driver. The shaft is a Kai'li 80 stiff. I will be changing it out soon - I usually play a 70ish gram x flex shaft, but the added weight of the Kai'li made the stiff playable. The feel of this club is what makes me want to spend the time dialing it in. It has that spongy feeling that is talked about with epon forged drivers. It feels like it sticks on the face and then rockets off. The srixon p-420 I game has a springy feeling face but is more metallic. I really not one to tinker with hosel adapters, and usually prefer the clean look of a glued driver, but it is nice that I can set this in a open position and have the club not look closed at address. All in all i'm very impressed so far - given the feel of this driver and the fact it looks open at address points to the srixon being in a backup bag soon.

Might have to get one. Thanks for the review. So does it sit totally dead neutral at address, then?

Guys thought I would throw something else into the mix, I have always been a tourstage driver fan going back to my first the X500...anyways tourstage also has a P01-2 version, it is 420cc and was one of the limited edition prototype heads they put out from time to time, like the GR P13-12 that Yusaku Miyazato plays.

Now this 909 is fully adjustable correct? or is it only face angle, you can not adjust loft? I wonder how wide open you could crank one of these? I need atleast 1.5* open....

This man knows his classic TourStage.

It looks like the adapter only controls the face angle, but effective loft will be changed if you open or close the face. I have mine in the 'r' setting which is the most open setting. I haven't had the face angle tested but it looks dead neutral to maybe a degree open. I can play this head with no problem, and I am very picky about driver face angles. I will be putting a di-7x in this week. I have one sitting around, and its a shaft that works very well for me in a number of different heads. I will report back.

  • 3 weeks later...

I know I'm kind of late to the party with this driver, but better late than never. I've been playing this with a di-7x for about 3 weeks. I have 5 rounds and a few range sessions under my belt. It is a flat out awesome driver if you have the swingspeed and consistency with your swing. The last few drivers I have played I have been fitted for on a trackman, so I was a little hesitant to buy this without even seeing it. I found one for a great deal, so I was sure I could flip it if it ended up not being my cup of tea. I am so glad I did. I am getting to places on the golf course routinely that I have only been a few times over the past 3 or so years. Maybe the best attributes of this driver are its looks and feel. I know both of these are very subjective, but the pear shape deep face and no nonsense aesthetics just work for me. Epon forged drivers have always felt great, this is no exception. When hit on the screws this driver delivers a great sensation to the hands. Soft, but not overly so. It feels powerful, and the ball launches of the face. The feel kind of reminds me of the callaway ft-tour, except better if any of you have hit one. The one thing that really surprised me is that the driver is somewhat forgiving if your misses are high and toward the toe (which mine are). I didn't lose too much distance, and the ball stayed on a good trajectory when hit high and on the toe. Low side and heel is punished pretty bad. They fly really low, and distance loss is considerable, but at least they stay straight. I highly recommend it to anyone that likes a deep faced driver and is consistent with a higher swingspeed.
