coldsoul
I know leftoverrice just posted a similar topic that I read through in detail, I have also searched the forums quite a bit over the past few days, but I am looking for an cheaper set of forged cavity backs that are on the more forgiving side- in the US market think Nike covert forged's or the new vapor combo pros. At some point before the snow melts in Manitoba (yeah I got some time) I want to pick up a 7-PW set and want to keep it $350 USD (cdn dollar is tanking big right now- a couple of months ago that would have been a $400 budget but those are the breaks). I have no issue with the clubs being older as long as there within say they are within the last ten years. I was looking at srixon and some other companies that are a little bit better known in North America when I started coming across JDM clubs that looked amazing which turned me on to this site eventually which is a great resource. It seems that the sort of clubs I am after are far more popular in Japan than in North America. Any input would be greatly appreciated so that I can look into things- also good places to buy from besides the BST here which I am already combing through (often just hurting myself by stumbling across amazing looking $1,500 irons). I still have a bias against graphite shafts (with no basis I admit), which I guess is common in North America but seems limited here. So any info on shafts from the same time period of the irons your suggesting would also be greatly appreciated. Of the shafts I have hit the Nippon Pro 950 in R are my favorite, s3000 is what I currently game and there fine but would like them to be a little softer. Thanks in advance. nobmontana
Welcome to the forum!! For a 10 year span, you could find some nice forged CB set from Japan for less than $250 easily. Yamaha, Yonex, Tourstage, Onoff, PRGR, Fourteen, Royal Collection, Mizuno, Srixon just to name a few. Japan only model Taylormade, Callaway, Titleist are also very interesting and would totally fit your budget. If you are really on a budget, older Yonex Cyberstar forged or Nanov Tours are some of my favorites. some available for under $200. Shaft wise, DG S200 or NS Pro 950GH are the norm for forged CB of that era. Edited February 11, 2015 by nobmontana
coldsoul
Thanks for the reply I finally have all the brand names down from researching here and on ebay my difficulty is more figuring out which models fit which I guess is just more ebay time and then posting here in relation to specific sets- I liked the looks of the cyberstar and will check out the Nanov tours. One further question are there any online stores that sell used JDM equipment? For example in Canada we have golf avenue where I know I can get legit equipment from or I am stuck basically with ebay. On the same vein major JDM sellers on ebay that are well respected like 3balls on ebay. Thanks. Edited February 11, 2015 by coldsoul

madboarder
As supo said remove ebay! Plenty of great sticks here you cant go wrong some great clubs came out in 2010 -2012 imo. Shafts are cheap so try them all. Save the coin for a great driver and then some for a shaft.... JDM wedges are good value. No better feeling in golf than hitting a good club. coldsoul
Yeah I am not a big fan of taking chances on fakes via eBay which is why I was asking about any decent real stores. I definitely don't want s3000 just explaining what I have experience with. Just looking at scoring irons I play hybrid 3-6, slowly creeped up replacing irons. I shoot high 80s but iron play is a strength being 220yds from the tee is what holds me back. Thanks for all the insight so far.
