mr3putt
Can anyone tell me what the deal is with the XR series drivers ? Obviously you can't get them in U.S., but are they similiar to TP and what's diff between the XR03 and XR05 ? thanks in advance Tom
Precision
The XR-03 & 05 drivers are non-conforming. The XR-05 CTi is TaylorMade's answer to the Callaway ERC Fusion, Mizuno MP-001, and Yonex CyberStar PowerBrid. The XR-05 CTi, which stands for "composite titanium," features a large, 460cc head consisting of three parts: >Super thin 6-4 titanium body >SP700 titanium clubface (finer than 6-4 titanium) >Carbon-fiber crown The XR-05 CTi's carbon-fiber crown is 15 grams lighter than a comparable titanium crown, allowing TaylorMade engineers to allocate the saved weight to carefully calculated points within the clubhead to create a lower, deeper CG.This precision-placed CG location enables the XR-05 CTi to deliver launch conditions that result in the precise degree of high launch-angle and the precise degree of low spin-rate needed to produce maximum distance. mr3putt
Thanks...Do they plan to make a conforming version, or is it all ready out there w/ a diff name ?
Precision
Sorry for the confusion. The XR-05 CTi is USGA conforming. Here are some pics of the non-conforming XR-03 & 05 drivers...
forgedcrazy
the XR-05 Cti that we are selling in the UK is very very definetly not conforming.
Precision
From PGA.com... By Steve Pike, PGA.com Senior Writer 01.12.2004 03:16 pm (EST) ACROSS THE POND: TaylorMade-adidas Golf is marketing a new driver in Europe called XR-05 CTi. The 460cc driver reportedly features a head with a super-thin titanium body, SP700 titanium club face and carbon fiber crown. It also includes TMaG's 'inverted cone technology' and 'tuned weight cartridge' from its R500 Series drivers that are currently in the U.S. The company isn't saying when or if it plans to market the XR05-CTi in the U.S. MGB probably knows if it will be released in the US. slicktry
well if the cTi is conforming, I would like to know how much, and the availibilty. The CTi would be a nice addition to the R7......I am pretty sure the prices would be comparable. Anyone else have any info on this driver? Jer

That's not likely. I don't think the XR series will make it to the US.

forgedcrazy
XR-05 Cti is a lot longer than the gemini but it does have 0.86 COR. It retails in UK for £449.00 with standard TM superlite shaft or at todays exchange rate $812.69.
muzzely
The XR Drivers get their names from being experimental. The Xr03 does not have inverted cone technology. In Europe they are only available in non-conforming versions. The XR05 and XR05 Cti come with a Rayon shaft but this is nothing like the tour version of the Rayon it is a lot softer as this club is aimed at your hackers and will probably go to high and the shaft will be to soft for better players. There are 15 grams removed from the crown and also 15 grams taken from the walls of the Xr05Cti this weight is placed low and back to help joe punter hit it up in the air. I don't know how this club performs with other shafts as we have not been offered custom flavours in the UK. Hope this helps.
