HipCheck
Guys, Played a practice round yesterday for a Wednesday tourney. Would up with more 85 yd wedge shots that I can imaging. 75% of them I hit fat and right!!! Please pass on some quick tip to help me out. FYI, I usually use a 56° or a 3/4 52° from 85 out. I need a swing tip to not fan the face open on the backswing, but still come down with an in-to-out path. Thanks!
jeffy
A tough one to diagnose without seeing you swing, but it could be you are not getting enough right arm extension through the ball. Underutilizing the right arm can cause fat shots as well as leave the face open, shoving the ball to the right. You'll need to experiment to find what "key" will work as a cure: more pressure in right hand grip, more outward "extension" pressure in right arm in backswing, more conscious right arm swing down through the ball. Of course, make sure you are not drifting back onto your right side: set your weight left and deepen your knee flex to stay centered. Good luck! VAGolfNut2004
Leaving them to the right is likely caused by hitting fat, your club face is probaly ok. Unless you have either videotaped it or someone very knowledgable watched your swing and that is why you think it is open. Always put about 60% of your weight on your front foot for wedge shots, at least that's what I do. It seems to promote hitting down through the ball and not scooping it. One other thing to check on any fat shot is that you aren't to close to the ball at address. The post about extension of your right hand is related to this. If you are to close to the ball your right hand (or left for lefthanded players) can not extend fully if you are to close to the ball. Instead you end up hitting fat and the shot never has a chance. andre2you
I was hitting'em fat also with some shanks. The one thing I have done which has helped me is to put the ball back in my stance (be slightly narrow) stay square to the ball and flex my knees to the left (for a right hand golfer) this will help you hit down on the ball. I have also found that this has me hitting my wedges longer. I hope this helps...... Let us know.
zing
from 100 and in i have a 58 high performace titleist, my routine basically is to have my stance open (more open the closer i get), which will promote a slight fade (with practice you can control is easily), i have muscle memory to the point, lets say 65 yds, once my arms reach a certain point on the way back, its like flipping a switch, in will come straight thru, and i feel like i am hitting down on the ball first, and keep my weight slightly ahead
