+TourSpecGolfer
With only 2 weight ports, there are different models to choose from they come pre set at draw or fade, the face isn't as deep as the R7 and the weights could be 1g 8g or 2g on the side of the model selected. R5 Adjustable FW's are coming out too! The R7 TP Japan version just came out today and they leak this info to the reps...lol It makes sense to only have two plugs, Im sure this driver will kick butt also, there is also a new series of XR03/05/07 TM drivers for Japan. Good news its all coming out this month :-D :wah:
hornyjuan
The poor man's r7 :smile2: Wonder what the pricepoint for these things are? Adjustable fairway woods should be awesome though. I don't see what TM is doing with the R5 when they have the r7 already. I guess it's to appeal to those that don't want to tinker with weights...it will all depend on the pricepoint. +TourSpecGolfer
I assume its coming to the U.S, Japan has to many exclusive product by TM as it is. I think the R5 dual is a great idea because 2 plugs just seem more ergonomic, perhaps it will lead to the R5XD Dual or R5 Quad or Dual TP etc. I'm curious if the R7 style weights will work in the R5 Duals head. The retail price in Japan is CHEAP!! 58,000yen compared to the R7 TP at 114,000yen. Its coming out Mid - Late September and I got a bunch on order so we will see. Links2131
My gues is that would run around 300-350 US? It looks like an interesting idea, but why would they put hte weight ports in back center? Why wouldnt they put it to one side or another to allow for the draw/fade? James
im guessing it would be like when they released the 360xd when the r500 series came out.. looks very nice.
nearfall152
It's a great idea I think, battle at a lower pricepoint...but geez they really give a new meaning to saturating the marketplace. I wonder if too many different lines could turn into a drawback for the company. I don't think its something to lose sleep over though. hornyjuan
Correct...nonadjustable. So if you buy the N or D version it will be set in as the weights do not have the hex where you can insert the screw. I on the other hand think the R5 is another gimmick for TM to make millions of dollars. Other than the fact that the head size might be smaller...I don't see the point in a shallower face, non-adjustable r7 other than the $100-200 price difference. Well all I know is that TM makes badass drivers so either way you can't go wrong.

VAGolfNut2004
http://www.interq.or.jp/japan/golfmg/tr04r5de Aparently there will be: Drivers : Type N ( 450cc ) guess is this is neutral setup Type D - draw setup? Type W ( 360cc ) Lofts - 12 & 13.5 so most likely for women R5 Dual fairway woods. Lofts - 15 18

Guest
That doesn't suprise me at all. The R7s are having a bit of a problem generating spin for the everyday public.

True, but why non-adjustable? Does not make sense to me. What does the "dual" stand for? Dual decoration weights. :-D Since this is the replacement for the XDs, why would anyone with an XD need to upgrade? Big misstep by TayloMade IMHO. hornyjuan
Dual means only 2 weightports. Just like the r7 quad has 4 weightports. This will probably lead to an R5XD but I can understand where TM is going with the r5 dual. It will appeal more to the masses with the pricepoint and the higher spin driver. R7 is only suitable for players that desire low spin. R5 will probably be easier to get the ball up and for those that don't want to tinker with weights. For those that are happy with the r7...there really is no point to go with an r5 other than a smaller looking head (if that's a pet peeve of yours). I think the point is that if the weights are put in place and one can't remove them, what's the difference between say a TP and this one, other than the CCs, which is not a lot,,,ok some, but not a lot, and if that is the only diff, I could always add tape...I was excited to have this one with adjusted weights, but no adjustment makes it a general driver...really or so I think... hornyjuan
For the every day hack, they wouldn't know how to add lead tape if their life depended on it. The point of the r5 is so that your joe schmo golfer can say...i want to hit a draw or fade like tiger without manipulting my swing. It's also a high spin driver...plus the weight ports in the back promote higher launch angles. As owner's of r7's we may feel this is a step back in TM's progression but TM is simply covering all types of golfers. TM is in the business to make money and their products, sales, and R&D prove that they are the best.
rsvman
It's not set for draw or fade...the only choices are draw or neutral. They are completely non-adjustable. I guess since they only need to affect the face at impact a small amount to make the club favor a draw, they can do that with the weights where they are. Seems like another opportunity for people to :money: to TM.
