Import Balls

I'm curious to know what makes a ball worth $60+ per dozen and if they're worth a try. Anybody playing these:

1. Tourstage X-01/S

2. PRGR TR/-X

3. Srixon HB Tour

4. Kasco Premium Silicone, Silicone Mild

Thanks!

Not really worth it...I tried the x01 and although it's a great ball, not worth the money. I found the ONE Black, PROV1X, and HX Tour all worthy balls. In fact the ONE Black is a better ball than all of them for half the price of the x01. Although Maruyama says he gained 10 yards from the x01s the ONE Black is longer.

rbue,

I'll do a review on all those balls in the next few weeks. I get mine practically free. Around 50c per bell in Grade AAA. I have maybe 9 doz assorted Japan only balls in my basement. I plan to try each ball exclusively for 4 rounds each then do a comparo when I get used to the new irons. But like everyone says no ball is worth $50+ a dozen.

They're expensive simply because they are Japanese. Anything marketed in Japan is expensive - perhaps due to a higher cost of living? Even cd's in Japan are priced higher. So the higher price is not related whatsoever to a quality issue. As a matter of fact, some high priced Tourstage balls have lower prices USA Precept equivalents.

good point, right now people in Japan are getting fat and living good, salarys are going up and the economy is getting very solid again. When I first got to Japan times were hard for many but now it seems as everyone is spending a ton on luxury items. It is always a good sign when the sky in the outskirts of tokyo is filled with cranes building sky scrapers.

I couldn't agree more. I play Japanese balls. I find them overpriced but I don't get them out of the box. The only thing I like about Japanese Ball manufacturers is that they are not scared to try something new in the market. The Kasco Silicones, the odd number dimples on the Srixons, the TS X01 and X01s, the all offer a "totally new flavor". The low compression craze which hit the US around 4 years ago was all the rage in Japan 8years ago with the Newing and the Tourstage AMZs.

I was a ball ho almost as much as Jovi but have decided to stick to TS balls <UX>, <UXs>, X01, and X01s because ever since I limited myself to these balls my game has improved by 2 index points. I have tons of japanese balls to review but it is local tournament season here until mid March and I don't want to mess up my game. But so far I like the TRX as well. I plays very similar to the <UX> but with higher carry (bigger dimples). I hated the Nike Air Bidan.

I never really thought of that but thats absolutely true. They are willing to try new technology that way Later the U.S will pick up on. Like Carbon Crowns, I.C.T from TM i think which started with the XR series drivers, carbon crown utility woods, many different types of materials etc etc

You should see their, washing machines they turn to dryers after it washes all in one, refrigerators, and electronics. No holds barred spend a ton of money on R & D kinda stuff.

I was looking in the golf mag Choice and they had ridiculous hand made leather golf shoes CUSTOM from design, color to everything on it :surprize: They were back ordered for 19 months at 1890.00 - 3500.00 each :money: :wah:

At the Louis Vutton store, Rolex, Tag, Gucci etc stores they have limited edition watches and bags that the U.S never See's. Like in the U.S we have the Tag Tiger woods watch but in J-Pan they have limited edition models for individual victories etc. Although I have never ever seen a Proto or Tour Issue time piece.

Titleist, Scotty Cameron, and many other brands sell special clubs exclusive to Japan like the Ignite Tiger 337cc signed in a case, Scotty Cameron CT putters I have not seen on any U.S site, Tigers T model Titty Irons, and a million more crazy collectibles.

In the U.S the unofficial name for us is " Club Ho's" In Japan there are Club Maniacs" and if your really sick "Club Freaks".

They do experiment a lot with new things and thank goodness for that or I would be out of work
