i was about to ask about that myself. that's an interesting side to the logic, thanks for sharing.

i can appreciate that. honestly, my driving stats are my best stats and i'd typically miss a green from under 100yds before missing a fairway. i go into slumps like everyone else but not that often with the driver. in this past year the only time i've really had any issues with the driver is when i tried the ad di-7 in my new kamui ray. it's probably a great shaft...just not for me.

i would never pretend to compare myself to any tour player but i am fortunate enough to be better than average when it comes to the driver. it may come out of the bag 12 times per round and since i've been focusing on my game for the past year i will typically miss 2 fairways. there have been days i've hit every fairway and there have been days i was lucky to hit 6! it also helps that my home course is quite forgiving. i played 36 holes yesterday, missed 3 fairways the first round and one the second. so maybe you're right and i embelished a little...2-3 missed fairways is probably more accurate. regardless of all that, comparing me to a tour player is where you make your mistake. if i was playing courses set up with fairways tightened down to half their width i'd probably be excstatic to hit 50%! i've played the tpc scottsdale many times and been to the phoenix open just as often. even playing from the same tees, the course is two entirely different animals between it's set-up for the public and the tour. instead of shooting low-mid 70's i'd have to be on my game to stay in the 80's if i had to play a pga tour calibre set-up like that. i'm only offering another side to the discussion, whether you or anyone draws any conclusions from my input is entirely up to you...

my average driver swing speed is right at 105 and i am ALWAYS appreciative of any extra distance!

for me and my swing tempo, yes...a longer shaft works. i've gone back to 45" and i get too quick in my take away and transition. the longer shaft really keeps my tempo in check and gives me some extra distance without having to swing any harder. of course i still make the occasional bad swing but because i'm not swinging as hard as i tend to do with a shorter shaft i typically don't miss that far off and not more than 1 or two fairways per round...and even then it's usually still playable. i wouldn't recommend a long shaft for everyone but it definitely works better for some swing types! btw, i'm only 5'6" and have a very flat swing to give you a little perspective.

i'm gaming the yururi raw flatbacks right now and they are solid and pure if you like smaller blades. the epon af-tours are pure and super easy for a blade. so many choices!

i'm right there with you! i found i can keep a 47" driver in the fairway every bit as often as anything shorter. a bad swing is a bad swing...

the kamui ray driver does feel fantastic when struck well...i sure wish i could hit mine more consistently! regardless, i'd love to try kamui's fairway woods!

even when i hit a fw off the tee box, i never use a tee so a skyball isn't in my arsenal. i'm looking for something as long as my taylormade 13* rbz spoon so i can get rid of this terrible feeling club without sacrificing too much distance.

here are a couple of crappy iphone pics of my most worn irons, my 61* lob wedge that i use for everything from inside 60yds including greenside bunkers and my 8 iron that gets the most fairway play...

that's funny, those two clubs were my final choices (along with the epon af-tours). the epons and miuras had more traditional/weaker lofts so being a high ball hitter the yururis were a better fit for me. here's a link to some pics right after the build. the c-tapers are performing beautifully and look fantastic against the raw heads. the feel is superb and if anyone doesn't think so, i'd be willing to bet they tried a shaft that was too stiff since these play about a half flex stiffer than other brands. i'll try to get some pics of the wear now that i've got about 15 rounds on them. living in the desert with a lot of sand mixed in with our turf, i think it's safe to say that my wear will be accelerated compared to everywhere else. as i've said, the more these wear the more i like them. one of my playing partners that doesn't like black irons just complimented these now that they're starting to wear. that was a shock because he tried to talk me out of getting the black finish saying how bad they're going to look when the finish wears off!

i really thought about the nippon spb's for these heads but after trying the c-tapers last year in my cobra s3 pros i had a hard time justifying testing a new shaft. on paper these two shafts seem to be very similar so it came down to the fact that i already knew how well the c-tapers performed and felt that the satin almost unfinished look of the c-tapers would compliment the raw look of the yururi heads. the c-tapers really cut down on spin. one hop and stop performance makes going after pins so much easier compared to the crazy backspin i'd get with px's or s300's...not to mention these shafts don't balloon in headwinds. even more impressive is the fact that they seem to cut down on side spin as well. i can still work the ball as needed but it's hard to unintentionally play more than a slight draw or fade. the reduced spin also cuts down on the affect of side winds. i don't have to compensate as much when playing winds that used to push my ball considerably off line. the quality control seems to be there as well. these clubs frequencied nearly identical to my cobras...that left me quite impressed! i tend to have a high ball flight on normal shots but for me the c-tapers' ball flight isn't significantly lower than other shafts. however, it's trajectory is quite different. with most shafts my ball flight tends to start off low then rise to a high apex and fall off a shelf. with these the ball jumps off the face rising to it's apex quickly and arching through it's trajectory. because of the reduced spin and trajectory i did gain an average of about 8yds per club and the ball is so much easier to control when approaching greens. to me they feel like a cross between the old rifle shafts and s300's. good feedback on mis**ts, crushingly pure on center strikes, but not as mushy as s300's. i think they do tend to play a half degree stiffer than most shafts. i typically play s flex but went with r+ in the c-tapers and they're perfect!! if i don't sell my epon af-tours i may try the nippon spb's in those...just to try them. but at this time, i don't see anything better than these c-tapers for my swing.

i am loving them! i live and play most of my golf in the desert of arizona so we have extremely sandy/gritty sod under the turf and the black is starting to wear. the funny thing is that i'm loving them even more as they become worn. the true raw look is so utilitarian that i can't wait for the finish to completely wear off the face.

as mentioned they definitely look like an evolution of a hogan blade. i wonder if they'll be any smaller than the af-tours? either way, i'd love to try them!

that's a very polite way of saying they're garbage...and you would be exactly right! my sport supercharged is the biggest piece of crap i've ever owned...but as you mentioned, they do look good.

i'm not into white drivers but that thing is beautiful! i'm really looking forward to your feedback as i think i'd like to go the 435 route!
