  1. i don't really buy that spining a shaft will help him hit it straighter, there's just not enough data to support that statement. however, it doesn't mean we shouldn't.
  2. great looking irons. the R9 doesn't look that much different than last years model but the burners look really nice, especially a address for a GI category club
  3. a blinker is really a Gold's Factory term, i believe. here's a link to a thread http://forum.tourspecgolf.com/t27862.html&hl=blinker I really like the gripmaster, better than the iomic. it's leather, it's natural, and it's smooth and firm, hard to describe. the only thing i don't like about it is that it can't really be removed and reused. doesn't matter as long as you like it, should last forever! i just put a new one on my gauge mallet and i bought another one to put on the px blade when that comes next week.
  4. i just picked up a Bettinardi PX Blade. Can't wait to try it. If it works out, I'll round it off with a Gripmaster stitchback.
  5. wow! those look really really nice!

a few years ago blinkers (a la Eldik) was very popular how come we don't see much of that in today's designs? it increases the MOI quite a bit making it more forgiving. is it too costly to manufacture? how do you guys feel about aluminum putters in terms of feel? other than it being soft and easily dinged up. i've tried the retail ping putter with the alu face, it has a nice hollow ping to it.
  7. hi Guys was wondering what 3w everyone is playing? anyone kept something classic like the epon 3w in the bag after all these years? J
  8. there's not much you can do with a blade, in the end, the blade won't offer you any forgiveness. but as far as blades go, the Miura line, TE or 5003, they are premium, high end, ultimate sticks.

looking forward to hearing some reviews, these sound like some really good sticks. also noticed a lot of guys have been using super peening shafts. these are pretty old shafts but feel great with nice heft to it, any reviews and how's the combo with the 302's?
  10. the adams pro black hybrids are the best i've used so far, you can give those a try they look great at address, they are small, and perform great
  11. Just tell the guy to go buy at that site if they think they've found a better price. Even the fake stuff in China is fake.
  12. are there any video or sounds of the impact for these inpres drivers online somewhere?
  13. awe man! i'm not reading your threads anymore.
  14. great swing. that's a lot of yards. can you stop that 8iron on the green with no roll from 170? if you look at the driver video at the top of your swing, your clubface is closed, there's your draw. subconsciously you probably delivered it inside out because you knew that is what you needed to prevent a hook. it also looks like you lose your spine angle at impact. some call it losing the tush line but it's hard to see from that point of view. i had the same issue and hit my irons pretty long. i'm on my 3rd pro and still trying to maintain that spine angle. now my pw only goes 120 and i can't hit anything worth a lick. i'm going to stick with it, i think in the long run it'll help my ball striking. i think it comes from trying to use my body to generate power. good luck with that swing, i'm still waiting for my wrist to heal so i can get back into the swing of things
  15. hi Guys I bought TSG's last set this week and managed to get to the post office 2 minutes before they closed. I was too excited and sorry to the few cars that I cut off You really need to use that gas pedal. =) I've only hit 5 balls into the net on a launch monitor and my mini-review compares it to the Miura CB2006 with Orange Peening xstiffs. Not so much on performance without having played a few rounds which won't be for a while due to a healing right hand. The Yamaha's look better in person than in the pictures and the quality is typical of high end Japanese equipment. There are already pics up on this site and I can't match the clarity on those. These fall into the players cavity category yet comparing them to the Miura CB2006, these look a bit more forgiving. The sole is wide for a true players cavity which suits my negative angle of attack however I wish the edge was a little more blunt. There is some trailing relief which is good. It's not too wide, perhaps slightly thinner or equal to that of the Epon 501. The setup is what sets this apart from the rest. The main reason I bought the Adam blades was because of it's very square toe. The Yamaha sets up really nice at address and the high toe is something that every iron should aspire to. The top line is not super thin but thin enough. The topline has a square or flat top which I prefer over the rounded toplines of the TM's and Mizzies. The finish is gorgeous. Satin for the most part and some areas have shiny chrome which gives it a hint of bling. The primary reason I don't like shiny chrome is because dings are magnified and I tend to think it's a little flashy. Personal preference. There's not too much going on in the cavity. It's not riddled with text and english that doesn't make sense. I would have preferred if there was just kanji characters, that would be pretty cool. Kind of like the Yururi flat blades. The specs show that these have some offset but I don't really see any. They just set up so nice and I think because of this, it makes you feel more comfortable over the ball. You know that feeling when it just feels right...totally builds confidence and that's part of the battle. I was very surprised that the standard 5i length is 35.5 which is 1/2 inch shorter than typical. They actually measured 35.25 which makes then 3/4 inch shorter. Looks like Yamaha measures it to the butt of the shaft and not the butt of the grip, I don't know for sure. I'm comparing these to other irons that I have with a bench ruler. Unfortunately these only come with S200 shafts. I will play with the stock setup for a while and see how they work out. The lofts on this set is strong (46 PW) so I'm going to have to rework my wedge setup if I decide to keep these. I understand these are Endo forged. They are not as soft or satisfying at impact as my Miura's. Part of it may be the shaft. The impact is solid and harder. Hard to describe but. I hope it's just the shaft. My old Epon 501's felt better, this is something I'll need to experiment with. Here's what I see on the launch monitor comparing it to the Miuras with the 7i: The spin on the Yamaha is pretty low, about 2k rpm lower, and the trajectory is about 4 feet lower than the Miuras. I think this is due to the strong lofts on the Yamaha. I really would like to see more spin. I'd prefer 5-6k rpm if possible for a 7i. I was able to nail the sweetspot more often on the Yamaha, probably because the shaft is shorter, therefore my shot pattern was 6yds versus 12yds. I've obtained a few mph faster ball speeds from the Yamaha. I attribute this to hitting the sweetspot more often and having a better smash factor. So far I'm very happy with my purchase I would like to thank bogeydog here on TSG for his help and advice. I can't wait to hit the course in a few weeks. Jack
  16. wow, you have the one with the white lettering. i heard this one is even more rare than the classic with the yellow lettering.
  17. a couple of months and you're at 30 with a 95mph SS? that's pretty darn good!! the MX300 is fine. i'd say continue with the lessons, keep the MX300 and also buy a pretty set like the Epon 701. those are really nice.
  18. i think these have 370 hosels.
  19. too bad the pw is so strong, they're going the wrong way they should leave the pw as 48 and add in a gw at 52 to complete a 5-gw set and jack the price up 200 that will make for a compelling set
  20. what if Epon offered a 302 edition that has the same setup as the Yamaha and a killed leading edge for soft socal turf? wouldn't that be perfect?
  21. what makes the Yamaha's better than let's say the Epon 302 or the Zestaim Fi-2 ToeHeel?
  22. the new Gold's Factory blades look like a winner. The PPM blades keep popping up. What makes these a standout and listed next to these other kings of blades?
  23. why doesn't Miura put more of this type of grind on their irons, the same one that is currently on the cb2006. they seem to work really well through the turf. thin sole when you need it and some bounce and blunted edge when you hit it fat
  24. how is this different than any other blade ?
  25. hi guys any reviews or comparison pics of the Forged and Tour Forged? There's a significant price differential and the limited Tour model only comes with S200. What's up with that? other than that it looks pretty good and is quit tempting. I'm surprised the 2009 models didn't do very well in the 2009 forgiveness test compared to some blades. Any info on the badge in the back, any technology there besides the X bar which many people are moving towards (A4, burner, etc..) sorry for all the questions... not many answers out there for hard to reach clubs.
