DemolitionMan
That's satin-izing, not satan-izing. Lately, I have been seeing sets of z101s for sale that have been 'satinized'. Are they being sent out to be done, or is there an at home process to remove the chrome that people are doing? If you remove the chrome from a set of z101s are you not screwing with the swingweights and addiding the possibility of rust?
pitbull808
Demo, You can do them at home if you have the correct wheel to use on a bench grinder. You just have to be careful not to do the face. You can also do it the 3m pad method. I went to Home Depot and purchased some 3m Stripping Pads and the pad holder to "satinize" the chrome. It doesn't strip the chrome, just scuffs them up. After taping up the ferrules and the face of the wedges, I went to work with the pads. It took about 15 minutes to achieve the results I wanted. I also did it to some 704.cb's before I sold them. It hid the chatter marks pretty well. The finish holds up very well like any other satin finish. I used the wedges for a year and didn't have to redo the process. Here's some pics. These were all Chrome Cleveland wedges prior to doing the 3m Pad. The lefties are "Pm Hackers". Needless to say we were two very bored individuals one night with nothing to do but play with our clubs.
sam2011
pit, will this remove paint in the paintfill? and if im reading this correctly, you did it by hand with this pad? great job, they look awesome... -sammy
AKFLY
I did mine and chainsaws - I know mine did not pit or rust. I also have done wedges and a TM 300 iron that has sat in the garage all winter with no rust showing. You are only dulling out the finish. Doing them by hand takes forever. MCsub
Mine were done at the TS factory, 2-PW. Soon to be sent off for some Kwoking
HipCheck
Paul at Shreveport Golf did my Cobras. He uses a proper finishing wheel. No rust. It's not possible. I'm not sure about doing it by hand. I do know that the finish looks factory on mine. As even as even gets.
DemolitionMan
OK, I see now. My brother did the same thing to some Callaway irons with his dremel tool. He then got carried away and went to the driver and ruined it. So I kind of put any dremel on golf club ideas out of my head.
ProSpec
Your brother tried to 'satinize' his driver? LOL! I've also noticed a lot of satin 101s 4 sale latley. Some (well most on ebay) claiming tour. With the popularity of satin tour TM irons this could be the new scam. Throw a satin finish on a set and suddenly they're "tour". Bet it's happened with a few TM sets???

I used Gel Paint remover to do that. And yes, I did it by hand with the pad. The pad is pretty course yet created an even "satin", so it wasn't too hard to do in about 15 minutes per club. I understand that everyone is trying to keep people from being ripped off, but THERE ARE TOUR SATIN Z101's THAT ARE REAL :surprize: I have mine on eBay right now with PX shafts. They are not fake, they are not aftermarket, etc. Back when Appleby and others were playing the Z101 they all had satin sets and there some of them floating around... like mine. Do you think this is a risky process, to do it by hand at home? I wonder how it will work on my wedges that are already showing signs of rust. Man, I'm really tempted.... I understand there r real satin 101s. So bcs. there are real satin 101s that means there are not fakes??? I never said all satin 101s were fake or that TS didn't do satin 4 the tour. The truth of the matter is that there are ppl. out there that are 'satinizing' sets of these and claiming tour. Am I calling yours fake... absolutely not. As always since there are no other distinguishing marks to indicate tour it's kinda like Titty tour drivers. Know your source.

pitbull808
Started on my TA1's tonight with the pads. Takes a while but they look good! Got through my 7 and am going to do the rest tomorrow. Thank you for the post Pitbull! Glad to hear it's working out for you. What I like about doing it by hand versus the wheel, is for an amatuer, it's easier not to screw up. Takes a little longer and a lot more sweat, but I haven't screwed any of them up yet. I did a set of 704.cb's right before I sold them. It pretty much disguised all the chatter marks and the buyer loved the "one-off" finish. Good Luck!
zojo
pitbull, thats an awesome idea, and it looks sweet too. I'd be too scared to do it though.
