Posted October 30, 200519 yr The new Japan only Cleveland Launcher type J is a USGA conforming driver made with a super thin 0.4mm SP700 crown to lower the center of gravity. It features two tungsten weights in the rear which give it high launch and low spin. It is 460cc's. There is also the Type J fairway wood designed with the help of Fujikura that features a 0.7mm SP700 crown. Also the new mallet V.J has been using called the Gray Matter will be available in three different versions.
October 30, 200519 yr chris ive heard you mention the sp700 face before....how does this help performance? looks like cleveland have jumped on the weight wagon also!!!!!
October 30, 200519 yr Author chris ive heard you mention the sp700 face before....how does this help performance? looks like cleveland have jumped on the weight wagon also!!!!! SP700 is a titanium that can be made thinner and hotter. Due to the crown being so thin the center of gravity is lowered giving it a higher launch angle. Same reason for carbon crowns except it will still feel like Ti.
November 2, 200519 yr Chris, is the Driver sq. faced and what lofts are available? EDIT: Price point? I said I wouldn't be going back to Cleveland, but this might be different! God Bless Jer
January 4, 200619 yr Author Chris, is the Driver sq. faced and what lofts are available? EDIT: Price point? I said I wouldn't be going back to Cleveland, but this might be different! God Bless Jer I am told the 9.5 sits almost square and the 10.5 is just a little closed around .5, this is a Japan Only Cleveland driver and yes it is USGA conforming. Cleveland says they designed this head with feedback from touring pros on both the PGA and JPGA tours. The head color was a big issue with the players in the past. The new Type-J was made smoked black per pro request. Initial testing shows it is a great performer on swing machines with a 46m/s swing speed it resulted with a 14* launch angle and 2200 rpm. If I were to guess the U.S version which could be named Launcher X would have a lower launch with a tad more spin for the harder hitter. Reviews in Japanese Magazines are all around great its only flaw is in its feel factor where they gave it 2 out of 5 pts. The lofts do have a full one degree tolerance and of 3 drivers tested they were all above not below. Here are some actual images from WRX. There will also be two new CG Type J irons coming in 2006 that feature tungsten inserts in the long irons.
January 4, 200619 yr Nice looking driver. Maybe this is why Cleveland has dropped the prices on their current drivers here in the U.S.
January 4, 200619 yr Nice looking driver. Maybe this is why Cleveland has dropped the prices on their current drivers here in the U.S. The price drop may be due to this I heard the top is knid of like the HALO. It may not be the prettiest driver on the block, but it could perform well. Edited January 4, 200619 yr by xjustice09x
January 5, 200619 yr I like that putter...especially the "smoked black". Why all the plugs in the sole? I can understand with adjustable weights, by why the movement to external fixed plugs? It seems purely for esthetics if it can't be moved.
