10 rounds of golf with the Srixon W505.

After 10 rounds of golf with my Srixon W505 I feel I can give it an accurate review past the honeymoon period. I have had good, normal, and poor swing days with this driver and am overall impressed with its performance. I will rate everything on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being perfect. A perfect total score of 20pts will give it TSG Holy Grail status, with our critical high standards here there has never been a holy grail in the history of all golf clubs despite what other sites call theirs.

Appearance = 4.0

The driver looks good, I am happy the sole has the brushed satin look in the area that it wears most. Other clubs with the chrome finish sole gets a bit scratched up but the new W505 looks new for a longer time which ultimately will add to the resale value. The profile from above is a round and pear shape with a player setup. The face is very deep and quite sexy to my eye.

Distance = 4.0

I have the R&A conforming version which is the high C.O.R model, I have also had the conforming version which I sold due to the shaft not suiting my swing. The high rally spec launches the ball off the face at a higher angle and what seems to be faster. I didn't notice any substantial distance gains but it is on par with the longer drivers I have been able to hit.

Forgiveness = 3.5

This club is very forgiving on shots hit high or low on the face losing minimal distance, I did however lose distance on heel shots more than toe which is expected when poor contact is made. The sweet spot feels very large bigger than any other sub 430cc club I have hit to date. FYI this club is 420cc's.

Feel = 4.5

Awesome for its size, it feels slightly hollow yet very substantial and meaty. It feels more pure than the 400cc R7 by quite a bit even with its larger size and facial hitting area. I wouldn't call it mute nor would I call the sensation tin like, its just right and a perfect compromise between size and feedback.

Overall Score = 16pts

Very pure and solid club, It will be in the bag for quite some time. Its user friendly and suits all levels from low to mid/high handicaps. If your looking for something better that the majority of clubs on the market I highly suggest this driver.

great system for grading the club chris!

:cool:

the driver looks sexy, i definately would have ordered one by now ...however the thing that is putting me off is the idea that it is similar to the r7...i hate the r7 feel, i think its quite harsh....in your honest opinion is this on par with feel to the r7 or is it a happy medium between the r7 and the soft feeling viq?

The feel is quite different to the R7. Similarly, I had demo'd R7s a few times and found it to be quite harsh and unrevealing. The W505 has a great feel and will let you know exactly where you hit it. Agree with Chris that it isn't the most forgiving but it's a great driver.

  • 1 month later...

Hey guys i just received my w505 yesterday installed with a red diamana ( Thanks Chris)! :tsg_smilie_cool:

Mini review on the srixon head....shaft review for later lol!

i have to agree with alot of what Tourspec says about this head.....

In terms of looks, from address the deep faced, pear shape sit beautiful behaind the ball!

I appreciate what you are saying chris about the brushed satin sole now!

The ball flies off this face, it comes of alot faster than my previous VIQ450, however it did not result in distance gains....both were identical!

The feel was much different from my VIQ, much firmer yet not harsh like the R7's!

Also in correlation with chris's findings i found that this driver was KIND to my bad shot, which is hit high toe, this resulted in a slightly diminished feel however with minimal loss of distance!

All in all im very very pleased with the driver and would honestly recommend it to those looking an xmas pressie!
