BillyBaroo
Hi. I just got my AXIV-V (7072) shaft in and took it to a club repair guy to install. Based on previous posts in TSG, I remember seeing recommendations to install the AXIV with logo down. However, the installer saw a very clear line indicator on the butt of the shaft that would generally indicate where the manufacturer is saying the spine is. This line is on the top of the shaft, which would put the logo face up, not down. Does anyone know for sure on the V version of the AXIV if it is supposed to go logo up or down? And if its supposed to go down, what is the line marking that is on the top of the shaft butt? Thanks for the help.
Blader-X
I can't tell you which way is the best but I will say that I have two drivers both with Axiv V's. One is the Epon with Axiv V8076, the other, the Galloway ERG III with Axiv V8072. I hit the she^% out of both, which is to say I hit them both, far and accurate; as well as consistent. Both clubs have the shafts installed with logo down. Additionally, I've been playing 757's, Diamana's and now the Axiv-V's. I have always have them installed logo down and have always seen very good results. The one time in which I let a someone tell me that it needed to be a different way was when I had a Nak 460 made with a Diamana S73. The results were okay but was never as good as my other clubs. And now, the two I have are really fantastic. I think when it comes to these very high end shafts, they are made so well that placement doesn't really matter all that much. I could be wrong on that but I've seen very good results with what I have. I'm sure there are some other more knowledgable TSG'ers who could chime in on this topic. Good luck! +TourSpecGolfer
have your club maker do a flat line oscilation and mount the spine at 3 o'clock.

My clubmaker and I spent over 30 minutes to find the true spine of the Axiv ... why? because the shaft is so good that finding the spine was a bit difficult, unlike those cheap shafts that can be spined in less than 5 minutes. I too had the Axiv installed logo down with great results.

Blader-X
you can put the logo up or down it dont matter. and no you do NOT turn the spine to 3:00 o'clock.trust me i'm factory trained by mamiya. Just out of curiosity, why? Reason I ask, I believe that is what the one guy did to the Nak I used to have and it was the only one driver where the results weren't that great. He was talking about installing to either favor a draw or a fade depending upon what one is after.
acrazygolfer
please check p.m. The USGA prohibits the placement of the shaft in such way as to influence the playability of the club. Please elaborate on why the Axiv should not be placed with the logo at 3 pm.

Thats what all high quality shaft OEMs tell ya. The goal is to make sure the shaft plane is parallel to the face plane of the club. It doesnt hurt doing this and actually ads some piece of mind when you know it will kick down the line. Hand wrapped in bangladesh like Axiv, or hand wrapped in Japan i would do this to all of my shafts. If there were specific instructions on why not to, I would be interested to hear them. +TourSpecGirl
If you would like to take the word of the Manufacturer (in this case Mamiya Axiv), install the logo up or down as they designed it with the spine in the appropriate position. Axiv shafts and other high-end shafts are quite right on the mark. However, if you would like your clubmaker to test the spine: to follow the Rules of Golf the spine must be located at the 9 o'clock position. If you are a left-handed player the spine should be placed at 3 o'clock. Only when the spine is located at this position are you following the rules of golf. Using the FLO method will tell you where the "spine" or point of "flat line oscillation" (FLO) is at. Let's say that you located that point at 60 degrees or 10 o'clock. You would then place the spine at 9 o'clock for a right-handed player (or at 3 o'clock for a left-handed player).
