NEW IRONS - Mizuno JPX E500 with RODDIO Shafts

Finally received these today after thinking long and hard about them. What beauties! I can't remember seeing such great looking irons, ever. These are the I-10 irons so they are 105g, stiff flex. Overall weight is great. We were concerned about the swingweight, but it seems that Chris was able to work the assembly out.

They are just plain slick. Sunday is the big test and I promise to takes pics of the clubs and post a mini review.

Ok, got to hit about 10 warm-up balls today and then played at The Links at Gettysburg in PA.

Background - 7 HC, driver SS 97-100, medium to strong transition, ball flight straight to slight draw.

First of all these irons and shafts are just plain beautiful. The scheme on the irons is first rate....The black and grey with green letter is a great combo. The Mizuno heads are awesome also. If you haven't seen these in person, the sharp edges and tungsten weights are a work of art. The sole grind is very interesting. The front edge is killed slightly, yet the bottom of the sole if left.

Weight - I believe that Chris was able to get a D2 SW in the 4-9 and a D3 in the PW. The shaft itself claims 105g.

Address - Little to do with the shafts, but the Mizuno heads have offset and a larger head. The topline is smaller than my R7 Taper Tour irons. I think the setup looks sharp and positive without being bulky with too much offset.

Feel - Fantastic. Slightly harder than Epon, but obviously a forged head. The shaft is pure silk. The shaft allow the head to be felt, feedback was smooth and positive. I was worried that graphite shafts would mute the fell too much. They didn't. They are smooth butter not chunky. They do kick, similar to my Roddio driver shaft, W6BA.

Performance - On the money. I had an opportunity to play all irons many times except the 4I which I hit once. The lofts are 2 degrees stronger than what I have been playing. Length wise, they are 1 to 1.5 clubs longer than my other set. That is the loft , but the shafts add to use. I felt that the clubs are easier to hit. Just smooth. I did purposely swing hard and soft. Both were very consistent. Trajectory was a worry, before I hit them. My TMs have a tour center of gravity and hit boring long shots. With the increased lofts, I was worried. The setup of the shafts (tungsten used) probably added some tip stiffness. Traj was still boring and strong. I still hit it as high as I wanted. Spin wise, no problem stopping the ball on the green.

Overall, this was a great choice in my mind. Not that I was surprised. WHne I met Chris a few weeks ago in Cali., he was back to using the Mizunos. I trusted he know what he was doing. The Roddio shafts were an experiment and I am not sure that Chris was expecting much. While there, Chris set his 4I up and gave me feedback in the coming days. I think he saw similar distance gains and smoothness. He softstepped a stiff shaft for that club and felt that he should have stuck with the true flex. Now that I have installed these, I would agree that the shafts play slightly less than stiff. Just right for me.

Get a set.

Guys,

A few more rounds with these and I am in LOVE!

I can't tell you what fun these are to play. Each time I play with them the performance just gets better. I almost giggle each time I hit them. I find myself getting excited each time I stand over the ball.

Since these pics I changed the grips to the New Decade Green/Black....so cool.

The feel is really cool. It is somewhat muted as you would expect, but pure shots are just money. Feedback is still good with every shot. Distance loss is really minimal. The shafts kick something fierce. Not whippy, but almost cannon-like. The ball explodes with a hard boring powerful trajectory. No ballooning at all. The ball gets up and stays up for a looong time.

Distance - Here is where the fun continues. The lofts are 2 degrees stronger than my normal. But overall I am seeing 1.5 clubs in length increases. It has changed my game. Seriously I am hitting a 7I from 160-165 yards. Keep in mind I am 5'-2". What is cool is that I don't need to over-swing. I do put a nice attack on the ball, but that is how I make best contact. Now I have a few gaps in my wedge game so I need to work that out.

Accuracy - Really really good. I was playing Black Golds and most think these are pretty tight. These are better. Plain and simply. Even hard swings seem in control. No hooking or slicing. I can fade and draw these well. Today I hit a 35 yard hard draw around a tree with a 7I. No problem....Green in regulation.

I know you guys don't like graphite, but honestly I think these are better than any iron shaft I have ever played. They are 105g shafts.

Bogeydog, you will definitely have to change out your Vokeys next. :tsg_smiley_beach:

That's what I said. :tsg_smiley_bulb:

Great to hear B how well these are going for you. I've been saying all along, JDM Iron Graphite rocks just like JDM clubs. I have yet to hit the Roddio Irons but Axiv and GD Tour AD are similar, tight dispersion, great feel and kick!!! Congrats on finding just the right set for yourself... now if only at 5'4" I could hit my 7 iron 160-165 yards. :atsg_smilie_roll:

I know the wedges must go....They look like sh*t next to the other clubs. I would love to see if someone else buys these and reviews. I doubt the hardcore guys believe us about the JDM graphite shafts. Keep in mind that these aren't the old graphite shafts that you grandfather got for more difference. These are high tech works of art.

Gocchin - You are to tall, that is your problem. :tsg_smiley_beach:

My 4 iron used to carry in the 185 range, It now flies 205 with a simple change from the 1150 stiff to the RODDIO I-10 Stiff.

A few questions for you Chris that I'm curious about.

Did you have increases in the other irons as well; and, I take it these are available from you, but do we need to send in the clubs for installation similar to the driver shafts?

Also, do you have to have an entire set for install or would you do say selected individual irons??

Distance gains here too with JDM graphite... my clubfitter hit my regular flex Axiv with ViQ Forged and was shocked.... he hit the 4 Iron 227 yards dead straight. He obviously swings far faster than I do but found the Regular Axiv iron graphite very tight and smooth.

I now have a few more rounds under my belt. My experience keeps getting better. Today I birdied two par 3s. I am more accurate than ever. If anything I am still getting used to the distance increase. So far these irons will take anything I can give them. Hard and soft swings no problem. I am carrying the 7 iron 165.

Man, 2 clubs is huge in my view.

....does Roddio make UT shafts??

If you have them in your long irons you would need them in your UTs as well.

Did not know about the driving iron. Hey T, does Chris have any of those laying around??
