Blader-X
i wish they made blades.... but in the meantime i will be getting a set of AF-301 with Black Golds. looking forward to try them..... I hear you brother!! You and me both. Let us know as always how they perform for you. Introducing the new Epon 207KGX Wedge, a high precision wedge forged from soft S20C steel. Some new changes with this model include close to right angle grooves for super back spin, larger hosel dimensions help distribute weight higher to produce a higher Center of Gravity which is moved more towards the heel. The results include lower trajectory, more spin and overall improved playbility! Chris, any idea if these will be offered in the ever favorite copper edition?. I do like the fact of the design trying to incorporate having a lower trajectory. I love wedge shots hit low with spin. Not too much, just the right amount. rb2235
From the pics in the Pro Shop the sole if the 701 looks quite a bit smaller than the original X or S. Am I correct? I like look of the 701.
bogeydog
Chris, Everyone is waiting for your initial reviews of these new irons! Bat
From the pics in the Pro Shop the sole if the 701 looks quite a bit smaller than the original X or S. Am I correct? I like look of the 701. Well, the sole of the 701 is not smaller than the Type S, although I have not compared them side by side to the Type X. I had a chance to demo a 7 iron in Shimada AC10 flex R at the range yesterday. Despite the strong loft on the 701, I hit it very high compared to my current set. This is as forgiving as you'll get from a forged set of irons IMO. The shaft feels much too light and soft for me. It's very straight and long despite the high launch. The ball seems to explode off the face of the club. It has a noticeable twack at impact almost like when you're hitting the sweet spot on a driver. Sound is similar to my long irons as can be expected from the pocket cavity, just a tad louder. At address it's noticeably larger than my Type S in all respect and has more offset but not a big difference in the top line. Overall, this is a great addition to the new Epon line up. It does not feel anywhere as solid as the Type J but the forgiveness and distance is second to none. Bat
jacksonlui
Bat, would you say you're sticking with your Type S over the 701?
Duffer19
Bat,would you say you're sticking with your Type S over the 701? Isnt the Type S more comparable to 501 while the X with 701? or did I get this turn around.
Bat
Bat,would you say you're sticking with your Type S over the 701? Yes. The 701 is longer and more forgiving overall, but I still prefer the profile and feel of my Type S. Plus, with the distance I'm getting with they 701 I might screw up my yardage with the X-UT 21* that I just got. A friend of mine is ready to pull the trigger after the range session yesterday though. Bat
Bat
Isnt the Type S more comparable to 501 while the X with 701? or did I get this turn around. Yes, you are correct. I also demoed the 501's 7 iron with KS7001 yesterday and it's very solid. But I honestly can't feel any difference from the Type S at all other than the shaft difference in the demo iron. The only reason I was comparing the 701 was because of the post mentioning that the sole of the 701 might be smaller than the Type S, which it is not. My local fitter told me about the livelier kick of the 7001 vs. the 3001 I had installed a few months ago. Is that true?
Bat
Interesting that you mentioning the Ks7001. My local fitter told me about the livelier kick of the 7001 vs. the 3001 I had installed a few months ago. Is that true? I'm sorry, I've never tried the 3001 so I can't really compare the two. The 7001 in the AF501 I tried, however, does have a good kick. It's much more stable with a flatter trajectory than the AC10 or NSPro950. I normally prefer heavier shafts, but if I were to choose a shaft in this weight range, the KS7001 is definitely on top of a very short list. I should note, however, that the club I demoed was build 1/2" shorter than standard length and that might play a part in the overall stiffness and accuracy of the shaft. +TourSpecGolfer
Guys FYI on the new Epon Driver, there is a difference the Lie angle is 1* flatter the center of gravity is more toward the heel making it easier to hit. Also in regards to the new Type J replacement, it has a hair less offset and the center of gravity is lower in the #3, #4, and #5 irons. Spoon
cannot wait to see the wedges and irons in the flesh. the af701 looks like a looker. im really really curious about the tungsten weighting on the sole. will compare these to existing models once i get the chance. guys post pics when you have them for real

Chris, isn't the 61* lie angle of the new driver more 'upright' than the older model? Thx. Bat
ajaykkr
Got my af-301s....looks cool (although i dont like the gold colored E - prefer it to be understated). Its no muscleback (despite what Epon says)... clear and clear a cavity (probably one of the best look I have seen)...with the extra strip at the back bottom to get the ball up in the air. I have these shafted with the blackgolds and they will be put into action this weekend.....i have been playing blades (mp 33, miura, x blade 2, fourteen tb 1000, mr 23) but have played some cavities (mp-30, CB 1006, gauge studio mbs (some may call it a blade), the gauge studio handmades), so i think i have a fairly wide set of irons to compare against. Will report back after a few rounds.. Edited September 18, 2007 by ajaykkr

Can you please post pictures of the headcovers for 2008? Thank you
