Defending champion, my current gamer,

EMS/Crazy LY-01

vs:

Ryoma Premia/Quadra - Fire Express

Nothing has been able to take the EMS/Crazy out of the bag. Recent challengers include:

Kamui/i'lima

Kamui/fubuki

Adams Classic/Voodoo proto

TS 901/GD md6

PRGR GN/M43

TM Burner/?

and many other stock offerings from both US and JDM.

Have on course test in 80* humid Hawaii...

todays test is cold (45*) dry, St George Ut.

I believe I have already determined the winner.... but want to test in all conditions

before declaring so.

Comparing:

Feel

Dispersion

Distance

Sound

overall consistency

overall workability

Looks

Care to take a guess which setup you think is going to win????

The EMS will remain as the "top dog" IMO, however; if you were to put the Quadra in the EMS, you would definitely get the best of both Combo's.

Epon makes great drivers as everyone knows and I love them.

For me personally though the Ryoma was unbeatable and is in the bag. It is just too forgiving and easy to hit.

Jeff is an epon man so this will be interesting to hear about. (^_^)

J, make sure you give it time for a fair comparison, afterall you've been using the epon for quite some time and you may need some time to dial in the Ryoma especially at its longer length.

Both at 45" L - D1

Ever had a day when you can't put the same swing down... at all. today was my day.

I just sucked... I think I hurt myself....

One thing I can say is both are forgiving drivers. They had too have been....

The shafts do play differently.. the crazy was dialed....

Driving range today and just a terrible one for consistent golf balls,

roll out, my lousy swing. On course testing the next 2 days.

Much more to come

Oh 45", yeah thats right you went with the heavier head. I forgot as originally you were going to go over 46" with that.

Yeah get out on the course with those drivers especially since you know your distances well at the courses you play.

ahhhhhhhhhhhh....,

dying to hear how this palys on course.!

those are 2 super clubs and shafts

here you go..,

il back the ryoma is consistanlty longer and ESPECIALLY from non centered shots.

but the epon is the better feeling and easier to play.

ill be surprised if the distance isnt quite noticable with the ryoma

i still havnt played this but from what i hit at the range,

" i aint seen nutt'en like it!"

i absolutely dig my 102 so i love epon

but that ryoma is just stirring around in my mind.

RESULTS...!!!!!

For Me - My Swing

I'm hitting the ball very well right now. I'm within the sweet spot most every time.

Feel

Both are excellent, mis**ts don't really feel like mis**ts

w/the Ryoma over the ems

Dispersion

tough one here. both fantastic. Both amazing.

Very easy to dial either one up.

Absolute fairway finders

I have NEVER hit fairways the way I'm hitting them right now

with the ems/crazy setup. To this point the ryoma is every bit

as good perhaps slightly better at going straight down the fairway.

Distance

Well... when it comes down to raw distance...

The EMS/Crazy is longer for me. No less than 5, as many as 10yds.

consistently

Off center hits, outside the sweet spot the ryoma did shine and produce

better results. Doesn't seem to matter how bad you hit it, it still produces

a decent shot. The ems is very generous with off center hits,

the Ryoma is better.

Sound

Both sound great. No tinks.

The Ryoma is the more muted of the two.

overall workability

Both meant to hit hard and go straight.

Doesn't mean you can't work the ball, just

means you have to no how.

Looks

I've grown to like the looks of most everything,

(I own the eggs) so no problems here. The Ryoma

has a much cleaner look at address than it seems it

might at first look.

Both of these Driver combo's are (in my book)

AMAZING

I hit every fairway today but one and it was still deep, just off.

Still very playable. that includes the 12 extra drives i hit comparing

both drivers.

I have witnesses. :)

I'm thinking about switching the shafts.... should I even bother?

More testing will continue... but right now the EMS/Crazy is STILL

"In the Bag"

brilliant.......,

wow that ems must be some driver.

i would have been slackjawed if ud said the ryoma was shorter off centre tho.

epon ......... just goes to show.

change the shafts around?

no way never mess with your no 1.

contenders have to EARN their bag spot!

(you could alway put a stinger in that ryoma... higher ball flight . longer carry . feeling ..., schweeeeeeeeet.!!! )

Great post Jeff, as I said the ryoma is superb when it comes to off center hits and going straight. I don't know of another driver that rivals its forgiveness.

Based on your feedback I started to wonder if the Quadra's lower launch hindered the Ryoma at all.

That is I am assuming that the Ryoma launched lower with the quadra?

I found that if the Ryoma has the right amount of launch it just wants to simply carry and carry.

Of course the EMS and Crazy is also a premium combo. You have two awesome contenders right now to choose from.

Thanks for the pics and run down, Yea I was totally thinking the Ryoma would have more carry/distance/forgiveness. Sounds like you got the killer combo with that EMS. try a shaft change with the Ryoma, head vs head IMO it's the clear winner.

It's time to toss the new Crazy into the mix. I'm gaming it with the new BLACK HOT shaft in 6.9 sucker keeps going and going. Big Carry! Crazy is a tuff one to get ahold of it keeps selling out, pre orders and patience are necessary.

The Ryoma is the bottom pic. Order specs for the Ryoma were/are

Head Only

198 G

Square

9.5*

More testing today....

Unless you hit the sweet spot every time/consistently,

the Ryoma is going to be the better performer. It just doesn't matter

where you hit it on the face it just goes and goes.

Rather than change the shaft on the EMS I think I'm going to shaft

the Ryoma with a Crazy to get a more accurate test. I just can't see

messing up a combo (ems/crazy) that just plain works for me.

The new tourstage (solid) ball is the best ball I've played yet.

Long, spins like mad around the green and very durable in comparison

to other premium balls.

Which crazy u thinking of?

And balls question

i hit the xxio premium

but i found in oz they were a bit difficult to stop dead distance is incredible ill say 10yards on the srixon z star and a heap softer . On the greens just oh so sweet

was thinking of trting the tourstage v10 as my pal says they spin a bit more around the green

thats rhe only thing i miss with the xxio that stopping power

any comp between these two balls?

I appreciate your review. I would trade distance for forgiveness (as long as if the distance loss is not too much). Just trying to figure out which ryoma driver I should get for the summer, D-1 or D-1 v-spec. I'll talk to T about it.

The launch angle for both is very similar, I'd call it mid, almost mid high when

I went after it. I don't have any problem getting the ball air born with this

set up.

I don't. I was surprised at the stopping power of the TS ball.

It has actually spun too much a couple of times. Just don't expect it...

getting used to it in a real hurry. :)

When I'm done with 18 the ball still looks new.

Keep in mind the TS Solid is Tourstage's top pro model. It's strengths are all around play with a focus on spin around the greens.

The XXIO premium is a distance ball and not much of a spin ball. I's meant to be soft feel, low spin off the tee. The Mild would be more of a comparison with the XXIO but the Mild would still spin more.
