Posted December 15, 201113 yr Was thinking of adding '11 Yamaha V 14* 3wood to the bag. Anyone have any feedback on this club? Thanks!
December 16, 201113 yr fantastic 3 wood. soft as medium bodied, not compact, not large. workable if u need it. delivers a medium flight, its not a worm burner. its pretty easy to hit form a fairway and great from a tee. my fav all rounder in 3 woods. ull get longer ones over all like the egg or longer ones form a tee like the tour edge exotics but over all it was my fav.
December 16, 201113 yr this one was a monster of the tee, i found it rather difficult to elevate the time i was using mine some months ago. biggest regret is i sold it. i suspect that the shaft i had was too light and throwing my timing off. if i had my way id get one again and shaft it with a tour ad di shaft. that would be an awesome all rounder
December 16, 201113 yr Currently playing one with crazy FW 80 8.2, Best 3 wood I played!very very easy Off the tee or fairway. Will stay in the bag for long long time for sure!
December 17, 201113 yr Just ordered one with DJ-8. We'll see how it goes :) Where did you order it? I don't see it in the TSG shop
December 17, 201113 yr Just ordered one with DJ-8. We'll see how it goes :) monster combo! good choice on the DJ8 sir
December 17, 201113 yr Author monster combo! good choice on the DJ8 sir Thanks Carlo, Good luck with the stinger!
January 11, 201213 yr Author the 3 wood arrived yesterday and my impressions after today's round: -the face is nice and compact with a good balance between not being deep or shallow -impact feels crisp -DJ8 shaft is nice and hefty but adds a bit more spin then the DI. almost perfect fairway shaft. -very boring trajectory off the turf. so far so good...
January 20, 201213 yr Author After 9 rounds, my impressions: I've never hit a 3 wood this well. The head w/ DJ-8 combo is just a killer off the tee or fairway. Up until now I haven't found a 3 wood this accurate and long off the tee or turf. The subtle twin rails on the sole really help "glide" the head off the turf... DJ-8 has the perfect amount of weight for control and tempo. The trajectory is mid launch off the turf but just goes and goes and soars to its apex at the end due to the added spin of the DJ shaft. Now the dilemma is whether to hit my driver or the spoon on sub 400 yard par 4... Once again head/shaft amazing combo! Edited January 20, 201213 yr by charge
February 22, 201212 yr I am thinking about getting a V FW as well, do you find the 14 degree loft harder to hit it to the right traj? also, should i upgrade on the stock tour ad MX-611F shaft?
February 22, 201212 yr thats a good shaft for a driver SS of about 100 i found it juts a bitt too soft, but the quality s not bad at all! its bloody fantasitci for a stock shaft to be honest BUT yes the better the shaft the better this plays
February 22, 201212 yr thanks Stew which combo do you think i should try? 1. yamaha V FW with Crazy FW80; or 2. jBeam FX BM-FW HG with Crazy FW80? I swing about 105mph... 14 degree loft for a 3 wood work ok? cheers J thats a good shaft for a driver SS of about 100 i found it juts a bitt too soft, but the quality s not bad at all! its bloody fantasitci for a stock shaft to be honest BUT yes the better the shaft the better this plays
February 22, 201212 yr the yamaha is a complete fw i havnt tried the jbema but i cant go past the yamaha in any way its very hittable from the turf and a cannon off the tee. thats my choice
February 23, 201212 yr makes me want to get out there to purchase one. I currently use RC 14deg, VS tour, awesome head off tee & deck - throughly workable. I was bitterly disappointed with the Ryoma F2, so looking to sell it and get another 3W - was thinking of RBZ till i read this. Seems the playability / profile are similar to the RC
February 23, 201212 yr that RC is my 2nd choice its a little bit more "pro" esque than the yamaha, ever so slightyl bec its more compact for u tho the style isnt dissimilar . u might want to go the egg spoon the original one, thast the fairway chaser extraordinaire
February 23, 201212 yr Author let me put it this way... the yam v 3wood is the an amazing club. paired w/ a heavier dj shaft you can go at it as hard as you want and it will reward you will a rocket like feel. Edited February 23, 201212 yr by charge
February 23, 201212 yr I own a Yamaha v14, pair with crazy fw80 8.2 flex(thx to stew), will not leave the bag! Thats the 1st time i have a club stay in the bag and never think of swap it out with other club(1st time in 6 yrs i have been playing golf)Also have the RC 304p, only use the 5 wood (this one will be the same, will not leave the bag),3 wood still sitting in the back up bag.....I didn't even bother check out the other FW when I walk in to a golf store....... Was thinking about the jbeam FW but i don't see how any FW can out perform what I have.
February 23, 201212 yr yeaaaaaaaaaaaaa those are little beauties! i was mad to sell them u got me in a moment of madness!
February 23, 201212 yr I don't think there is anything better than the v14...... How's the new version play Stew?
February 23, 201212 yr ive actually gone back to 2007 to the tour model they released that yr only. shafted em up (3w + 5w ) with kaili 80x and 70x bit heavier and lower than the newer ones. made em for longy, they are perfect ! the new ones are great slightyl differnt design, made with a fin or foil on the base to decrese friction .., but i just wanted a slightly diffent stlye the 2009 ones fric- off ones are so good.
February 24, 201212 yr I have the "fric-off" V 3 wood - awesome stick. 3W has been easily the hardest club in the bag to get right. Best 3 wood I have ever played - I should be collecting them now it is so good off tee and deck!
February 24, 201212 yr If you guy's like the Yamaha I think you will enjoy the all new ONOFF Type-S as much or more.
February 24, 201212 yr Another endorsement for the Onoff woods by you, Chris. You must really be impressed by them.
