swisstrader
Can someone help me understand how German stainless steel putters differ from "normal" putters...softer metal, better quality or tighter tolerances? Is there that much of a difference to constitute much higher prices? Also, any thoughts on Byron Morgan German stainless putters? stevopagolf
From what I know, German Stainless Steel is stainless steel made in Germany. It may or may not have higher manufacturing tolerances. It is metallurgically the same as 303 stainless. Bettinardi DASS is essentially the same, it is 303SS that has been annealed twice to make it easier to work with. It is supposedly softer than typical Carbon steel, but I can't really tell the difference. Magnets don't stick to it and it doesn't rust like carbon. Most of the price is marketing IMO. If you want something that really feels different go with solid copper. Morgan makes a good putter no worries there

GSS is no longer worth it IMHO.

Chanaa
its combo of scotty's marketing gimmick & crazy collectors. The circle Ts ( tour/ handmade )& its ' unique ' stampings makes its a collectors items. Sure, those putters have great balance, feel & softness, but putters are more personal than technical. I have 2 circle Ts ( SSS & 009s ) which I game - not much diff between those vs GSS. Most GSS tours have fv ard USD2.5k......but when scotty launches it, mad collectors will pay 2-3x that. Its like owing a limited ed patek.

Agree...thats why I asked the question. I'm a bit of a putter nut but not a collector, just someone who wants the best putter for the money. Also never been a Scotty fan. I've putted w quite a number of them and have yet to find one that either fit my eye or that felt soft off the face or made me putt any better. More hype than function
DaleUK
I need my putter to please the eye, then and only then can I start to think about using it!! I actually prefer the more Solid feel to soft!! Edited May 17, 2012 by DaleUK
EdGolf
Agree - putters are very personal and some do collect them as hobby (I'm one of them but I only look for unique pieces usually with a story behind) However those crazy collectables Cameron are nuts and maye that why I don't own any Scotty yet lol
+TourSpecGolfer
GSS is the exact material make up as Japanese SUS303. Master Sasaya did metallurgy testing on this.
