supo
Noit unhappy with what i have but not entirely convinced either the epon zero continues to cause me uncertainty more mentally than play wise i guess my 2 hideous outings with it recently got me thinking true on a good day its pererless on a bad ohgod hideous i call it shirley so iwas at my builders on wed and had a long discussulion about what i was expecting and wanted this to be the shaft in it is as good as any shaft on the planet in anyines club the crazy 80 ls noir an ultra control shaft with the best feel imaginable . At 45.25 inch tho i found out twice how difficult this can be at times so we decided on a different plan thw shafts i had laying about were the diamana x instiff70 and the bb6x originally the bb i had ear marked as it slight stiff and its the recomended shaft by epon however it had another calling so the diamana x 70s got the nod but at 44.5 inch d2.5 323 gram........, perfect specs had a waggle with it last night not only a great wagle but a great look!!!! The quality of this head can not be wasted so if this combo doenst improve then ill be lost for words id happily game the noir at 44.5 but that shaft is headimg back into the ryoma where it never should have come out of in the first place. The best driver for hitting stright there is .... Bar none! The second build was one id been contemplating for a long time what to put in the crazy 435? Id tried long light which was great but i hated butt hang o f 46 inch i tred ultra short heavy gdp9003x but thst is such a tough ask for anyone but the fastest swinger @9' and a 207 gram head ! it was just too much i wasnt able to get the most out of it. So tye gd bb6x got the nod bec id used the same shaft in a yamaha tour at 9' and has great success its not really an x flex and its light and higher launching but still low low spin the idea being with this i can get slight loft increase from the shaft while keeping the weight low and generating greater head speed the head keeps the ball really striaghtnot much carry really its all roll this is for hawaii and maybe today at shishido hills where the fairways are ultra thin. It came out320 gram and d2.5at 44.5 inch im quietly salivating at thisdriver im going to give it every chance to grab the bag spotover all and sundry whuch is a big ask considering the winneri sstill the yamaha tour cb50noir nothing has been able to usurp this yet on apermanant basis many are longe lower higher what ever but overall the yam gets the spotmost days im looking for thus driver to be straight unwirkable and long i wan to be abke to step on the gas and have uktra confidence i can get the ball to catapaukt stright with roll not looking for air balls here i want piercing driver im quietly confident this build will suit perfectly Edited May 20, 2012 by supo67

EPONfreak
Great post Stew. Love the combos you're trying. This week I'm putting together an Epon 102 / crazy TJ-80 X @45" and hoping this will be 'the one' Distance isn't an issue, it's consistant accuracy I'm after. If this doesn't work, sounds like I should take a leaf out of your book and try a V-spec / 80 noir. I'm also thinking a Yamaha tour 10* with DI 6X @ 44.5" I don't miss greens, hitting fairways is my total focus this year.

supo
can report o nthe crz435 bb6x took that out yesterday , stil very very low. much easier to hit than the p9003x. softer feel but not softer performance the x i nt bb isnt what id call killer stiff, but ur not going to hit it around trees bubba watson style either.its oretty darn tight, just feels little flexy without actuallybeing so, thats one of its beauty point. the ball certianly came out low and hot. on the range ti was miles shrter than the epon 101 cza boron combo iended u playing bec the day was beautiful, no wind, i cud afford to set somesailing, good decicion too i played well, drove exceptionally well o na ver yvery tough driving course. after hitting 20 drives with e 435 id say its prob a driver for conditioins where its really windy and dry, i need to get a ton of roll bec there wont be any carry with it. feel was good, but i think i prob need thishead in 10*- 10.5 to get the most out of it 9* i nthis head is for the big boys combo works tho. ill swap the head for higher lofted one tho.. this is agood combo for anyone looking. supo
ok had a very long and good session at the range today with both these babies perfect slight into the wind which allowed some good shot shaping and some looks of pure anguish when the ball skewed off centre . my range is good bec im always hitting into the breeze. epon zero and diamana x 44.45 323 d2. perfect build. ok compared to the old crazy shaft the diamana x is a differnt beast alltogether. the feeling isnt really similar but its not polarity either. the crazy most definatly has the better pop , nothing ive hit is more alive ,and that includes the shingo spec drivers and the diamana stingers . the epon/ crz 80 ls noir is just uttler amazing in yr hands. i doubt if il lever hit a nicer feeling combo. but seeing as im not good enough to consistantly hit this long hard and straight something had to give it was either cut the shaft or reshaft it. i chose the later. ok the diamana x im pretty sure theres more than a few guys here waiting to know what this turned out like...., well the shortened length seemed immediatly to take a few yards away. seemed the word here bec i couldnt see the end reuslt as the net was i nthe way pretty sure the end result was good seeing where the ball flight stopped and the angle of decent. it wasnt as low as the crz consistnantly , and i was getting a few high balls with it, but i experiemnted with changing the height of the tee from 45 to 35 mm and the results were IMEMDIATLY better. the club didnt like being teed up really high as its 10.5* anyway the extra height DID make the ball balloon a few times, at 37 mm tho it was lutra piercing and really really good flight. after i changed down i got much better resluts, def longer lower and more consistant. mental note to self long tees not required with this driver got a fair few of everything coming toay some hideous slices , a cpl of snap hooks ,smoe air balls nad some dead set perlers right out of the centre. the slices killed me. i thinkcrazy, was tighter, bad shots with this were worse than with te crazy . BUT better ones were much better. ( seeed so ) im gaming her newt weekend for 2 games so ill have a much better understanding of what she can do . the shorter length did give me greater confidence to have a go bec i know this thing really doesnt like to go left one iota. its not as hard as the crz 435 ,but it still doesnt wanna turn lefton red arrow so iwas totally comfy throwing my hands thru the ball and looking to hit m ssive draws which just didnt happen. u can go hard as u like at this thing left its not gonna kill ya. i thinki i like the combo better. prob bec its shorter and easier to control , results after next weekend matchestho. til then its still in the proto stage to me. but im liking what i ahd today a lot

supo
ok epon zero----diamana X 70S 44.5 INCH 322 GRAM the acid test. if this didnt work it was bye bye zero. bec i KNOW the s diamana x haft isnt to blame. tight course usually a lot of wind esp up high its atop a mountian by the ocean so it can get typhoonal . played this course in march in the worst wind id ever played in to test some other drivers so, i know whats what here and where balls should end up with good shots the shorter length makes a noticeable differnce to control, its unreservadly better. the flight was definatly lower, regardless of how high i teed her up the flight was mid and really strong. these was a distinct lack of lateral movement in any direction. and my misses were much better , (of course to the right.) but no horrid dead set slices. good shots were fantastic. distance was spot on as long as most others and on the faster rolling fairways like today the distance was really good. to behonest , i was hoping this wasnt going to be good , bec id stopped liking it after the horrer stretch id had with it , even after i started so well. i jsut dint like the look of the face at address, but now, after today..... shes right back to where id think it should be. the feel wasnt as electric as with the crazy 80 ls noir. but as i said before nothing ive hit has or will beat the quality of t both these components , they are the top there is. the results today proved i cud have cut the ls noir to the same length nad prob gotten the same results with better feel. but.... as i said that shaft is going back i nthe ryoma at a later date. the epon zero is a hell of a head. its not the longest there is but it damn close and its defiantly THE best feeling head by a long margin. the 10.5 * doesnt seem noticeable anything lower would kill this head. gents shorter shaft length in this driver impoved its peformance immeasurably without any discernable lack of distance id have no prob recommending even shorter lenght and a heavier higher lofted shaft. CONTROL is key to success for this head to perform to its best. the diamana x gives this head the control it needs. its a beaut set up! supo
ok further on these 2 clubs.., my SS is about 110 mph+- a few depending on the day.... i rebuilt the epon zero with the diamana X 70s at 44.75 inch ive been hitting it a lot at the ranges , but not gaming it, for no other reason , other than i want to quelch my uncotrollable desire to build more drivers. nothing to do with ease nor quality , iwill say i hadnt gotten it completely wired so, thats might be a reason, but not over riding. also the tighter course i pay , i was nt sure if this was hte best choice considering how many soecificlly made drivers i have. i never considerd it..... so..........., there is a special person in tokyo town this week, so i figuered this was the perfect time to "rebag the epons" the af tours + the zero got a game at my old favourite corse in ibaraki , old orchard ( not to far form the tsunami), in fact this course split from the earth quake so i havnt played it in a while. but yesterdays game was on wet grass in the morn to dry in the afternoon, and it was in super condition! (it feel like id just met and old girl friend in a bar unexpectadly, and alone.....!) anyway..............., took the epon zero and nothing else., so i had to game it. glad i did. got a few of these out nicely during the day with pretty good distance. there was literally NO roll what so ever, in fact on the mega par 5 the bloody ball plugged, luckily jeff nearly walked on it and found it.otherwise it was lost middle of the fairway! so, overall distance wasnt what i normally get, but,, the carry was awsome! i really gotta rethink this bec with some roll out this might be right up here. ill say AGAIN...and AGAIN... there is NOTHING , driver wise thats ever been made in this good a quality . the kasco super hyten FD is the closest thing. everything else pails in to insignificance. yes, i really think its that good. i hit 10/12 fairways or first cut. only one i really missed was on 18. a hideous slice, after waiting 15 mins for the tee box to clear! but even that i wasnt completely dead. apart from that felt i was hitting it pretty well, got the shape i like to hit going, a (semi) controled fade and as always.., the stock cpl of excessive "fades"........................., , but the ball ended up perfectly good on the first cut. so no probs. the diamana X is magnificent. it will NOT go left. no matter what u do to it. BUT its not a slicematron either. i love this shaft. this course i know as good as any course ive palyed, lord knows ive seen enough of it over the years. so, i know what to expect, its nto a brutal tight one, nor is it bomb gouge. if u miss the drive ur hitting out of woods or in water, but u can go hard at the ball most holes and get good reward for ur efforts. bad shots DONT go O/B , u will be in thick rough or in trees chipping out . its a very good fair course. and its LONG its 7100 yards but plays well longer. a cpl of the par 4s.. well really... i hit driver 5w and was 30 yards short in the bloddy pond! so i know what to expect here. with how i hit it yesteday and some dry conds ill say def ths driver could well be up there overall distance. its NOT the longest. no way but the unepxpected accuracy i was getting makes this driver a LOT better than i frst thought. after my session in the nets i think i got it wired now its real test comes when i game it against in comp on the tighter TCCJ course. but i dont know why i would do that. ive got drivers specifically made for that course. no.. this driver is just perfect when u can have a good old go at it , with a bit of room. oh did i say its the best feeling driver by a country mile? diamana X + epon zero = a bloody good driver. RIGHT up there gents.. right up there, for the STRONGER faster swing driver of the ball. the feeling of it is just amazing
robbie
that hole u describe reminds me of a par 4 at my home course......if its cold and windy, im looking at 5 iron in on a damn par 4 ! and thats if i kill my driver and pure a 3 wood.....its a 510 yard par 4 that plays like 625 !!!! supo
the 435 i rebuilt it with a crazy cb50 8.2, my equal fav shaft. comes in at 323 d3 can get this airborn no probs. but its more over a thumping wind cheating low ball lama driver. the run i get with it is a lot. and its made for specific stlye of courses that i can get some run on, and to keep the diseprsion tighter. im not really wanting this for out and out distance, although, thats what it delivers. this i think is also one of the most stable , straight driver heads there is. the shaft and this head are a great match. feel is terrific. and thats saying something bec this head has a tendency to dull everyting in it. when the ground gets harder and the ball starts to ping off the not greenstufff this comes alive. oh and hawaii..........! i doubt if ill take anything else other than this to hawaii. its just not for the sumemr months in japan thats for sure, giving up too much but another one i wont be touching , bec the head actually likes this shaft this is a great horse for a hard course! +TourSpecGolfer
Great info.....what happened to the TSG results/review? They were tainted by Basileus shafts..ha ha but yea we had a full testing on the trackman and should have gone with Crazy's or Tour AD's. I'm not selling my ZERO just yet. I'm stuck on the Ryoma Special Tune yet the Epon is like crack and has me hooked. Not the best club for my score but the word that sums it up is purity.
