Henry
I have always stuck to the traditional JDM brands such as Tourstage, Callaway Legacy, Mizuno JPX and Titliest JP. For those of you that have played with the more exotic brands such as Royoma, Crazy, Romaro, etc, how would you compare?
gbs
Tried most of it , i think the Royal collection, epons and crazy are exceptional . however i wont rule out mizuno and callaway legacy. not a big fan of the titleist VG3 and tourstage. But the vokey forged i love love love
+TourSpecGolfer
I think its more product by product. Some niche JDM brands make both great and not so great products. Yes Ryoma and their drivers and FW woods. Btw I know designers for BIG OEMs who praise the D-1 driver big time. Crazy shafts well there is nothing better and I dont foresee anyone in the near future beating them as they really do spare no expense when it comes to their shafts materials, designs, and tech. We cant really discount the big JDM brands though they have it down pact. I dont really understand golfers who play only one brand of clubs completely. Its about picking the right individual club for their most common shots or faults.

daamartin
I've been keeping driving stats since getting the Ryoma and the numbers are pretty compelling (25% more fairways) - so much help in a package that feels that good - worth every cent! Now if Ryoma (or someone) would just make a putter that would do the same?????
landshark
gbs: just curious---what is it about tourstage that you don't care for? i've been happy with my ts irons, but wondering.
+TourSpecGolfer
Not saying this applies to gbs but generally we see guys buy X-Series tourstage product and complain when they aren't able to maximize performance either through a lack of swing speed, ball striking accuracy, etc... It's a series designed mostly for pro level players who request a more firm feedback giving feel or workability and compactness in a club. GR fits a wider array of player and so does ViQ but X Series you gotta have some umph.

Name brands are a comfort when you are uncertain of which way to go, or what to look for in a product. Not so familiar brands require a closer inspection of the product itself and how that can help your game, if it can help at all. Sometimes you need to look around for a feel you find missing in what you already have to make up a more comfortable bag for yourself. supo
glad u mentiond TS x series chris. bec they DO play very much differntly to the other lines. and realy only the very best ball striker should be hitting this line to get the most out of what the clubs were designed to do . ive got several x blade series and the old maru US blades form 03 and these lines are without doubt the smallest most compact heads there are. they dont feel as good as most of the other brands (besides the marus which it think are peerless with the NS mv226 shafts) unless u really hit the sweet spot. and u loose a ton of distance if u dont. the new x905s are easily thier best designed irons, the look is fantastic + they are just a wee bit easier to hit that the older models. in fact ill go so far as to say they are THE best designed blades ive seen. that dont play easy or sweetly unless u middle the hell outta them. u miss the sweet spot and u know about it. if u get the middle 90% or moret then there arnt many better blades, if at all. they are like scimitars u can make the ball do anything u want. just dont miss the middle.! Blader-X
Just to add to the sentiment here especially from Chris and Stew. Each product is unique to itself and finding the good ones is just a matter of trial and error just as it is reading from other members' experiences. What works for some just won't cut it for others. I mean just look at my bag. The 901 X-blades are still my favorite iron, but they never have nor will they ever get much love from others. But for myself, its the feel, the look and performance along with them combined with the right shaft. I'm sure though that someday they will be replaced, its just not happening now. My wedges at the moment are the best I've hit, but I've got two Royal Collections which are absolute money, and two Titleist-Japan Vokeys. Didn't think much of Titleist for the last few years but used to play them a lot many, many moons ago. But my Forged Vokey 62 lob and 46 pitch are such a joy to hit and man are they solid. Then you take my Royal Collection TRC ute and VSTour 3 wood. Best 3 wood ever made and best ute ever made IMO period. No others compare. But I must say I am not fond of the new products they have out now. Current driver is the Yonex 380 which I must say am liking a lot. That being said, the KamuiPro KP-X goes off to Goodsie later for a build and will see how that all shakes out. Putter, well, still gaming the G-Field and how long ago did that company fold up. For awhile they were stellar. You just have to always keep an open mind and a good eye open for all products. There's always an ebb and flow to this stuff. supo
u got the kp-x? what shaft and what loft? oh ur going to laugh when u see how long this thing goes. what weight as well. bec if its the 10.5*(which is light ) id suggest gettting a cpl of heavier weights in it the 9.5is lowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww im reshafting mine this week tugging the fiamma and putting in the bb7s think that mightbe beaut set up i reshafted the 10.5 with the crazy ls noir but its to light hits moon balls, 100% carry. i want bit more roll just make it heavier and it will be much better 44.75 inch these are serious heads for hitting the ball hard. idont think ive got anything longer as with everything blance is key the GD90003x 10.5 * @ 44.5 inch driver is incredible. its o nthe cusp of me being able to play it to its full extent bec that shaft is just so full on! Gaijin_Golfer
gbs: just curious---what is it about tourstage that you don't care for? i've been happy with my ts irons, but wondering. Not sure about him but my main dislike with Bridgestone/Tourstage is that their irons simply dont feel soft enough for me. Ive played mostly Mizuno irons and am used to that, "buttery soft" feel and found Bstone to be a firmer feel. The clubs performed fine, I simply didnt like the feel at impact. gbs
gbs: just curious---what is it about tourstage that you don't care for? i've been happy with my ts irons, but wondering. hard to explain , maybe for me is just how they sit up or just seems not comfortable on address. Maybe its just me. Nothing wrong with their product. EG the driver i just don't like the feel. I have an open mind i buy almost every brand there is but you know some just come top of your list. some don't.
supo
i agree the TS dont have that kind of (expected form JDM) marshmallow feel at impact, neither do kyoei forged heads, but the good point about them is you know exactly where u have hit the ball on the face.. Yea Stew, the 10.5. Going to have the P9003x in it. Just need to send it off to Goodsie for the build. I've put my Yonex 380 w/ P9903x into play of late and that shaft for me is still money so decided to bring it to this head as well. Thinking about the shaft length now. I'm usually good at around 45.75 inch, you think I need to go shorter for this head? The one thing I do know, after having put the 380 in play, I do like the smaller driver heads. This KPX is 430 and looks like it might fit the bill as well. We'll see.
supo
mines 44.5 and its fine . no probs at all i have re weighted it with heavier weights to get the punch ilike . it will make my head speed slower. but thast the feel i enjoy. like to feel the head full swing ive learned that heaveir heads = a nicer feeling shot. i dont like light heads at all , heavier ones keeps my tempo slow and rythmic. 198 is the limit on weight ill go to now. everyting is over 2021 that im building i think i get much better results. loss of disatnce, if at all(?) i cant see any . im using it on the weekend il let u know

xerobound
Traditional JDM brands have great products, but I feel like they throw in some very mediocre stuff in the middle of producing tons of new stuff. The exotic brands are often more quality and detail oriented. But if we talk about performance it is really hard to tell. There really isn't such thing as a bad JDM club, (in most cases) it's just a matter of finding the right combination and fit for the person. I love all JDM stuff but I really respect and appreciate the craftsmanship and dedication of the smaller exotic brands.
