robbie
This is exactly what the title says......i have been chasing the elusive unicorn for over 10 years and the majority of those years, i would say about 90% were with USDM products......Dont get me wrong, the USDM makes some great products but according to them, the new release 3 months later is much much better.....so according to rough calculations, the newest latest driver is 62,000 % more forgiving than 10 years ago and approx 500 yards longer......i basically have just given up chasing the unicorn ! In terms of JDM....everything from years ago is still very very good....it would be really hard to point out a high end set within the last 10 years that is considered rubbish today...... I have finally found my unicorn....my irons have been in my bag all season without change and the fw is not going anywhere, in fact i am done looking for irons and woods, which is a huge statement for me......my putter never changes, so its not a fair comparison but those are usdm products....the driver has been in my bag all season as well, but my eyes always stray when it comes to drivers.....the strongest statement i can say about my driver is its not for sale and the rest of my bag is set for next season as well.....i love my wedges but as the grooves get worn, i may have to replace them....i wish the model i used was still available..... 2012-2013 bag Yamaha 4.6V w/ LY02 7.7 Egg Spoon 15 deg w/ YSQ 75s ( ive tried a ton of expensive shafts, but this works the best ) Egg Hybrid 3i+ w/ stock M43 shaft ( this is soooooooo good that i am afraid to even touch the grip ) OnOff forged irons 3-PW w/ Modus3120 stiff OnOff forged wedges 08 model 51/57 * LOST my lob wedge.....need to replace Bettinardi handmade C/S shaft Cameron squareback w/ plumbers neck
shacco
Nice write up, Robbie. As you already mentioned, your bag looks quite similar to mine;) Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
bigrin
been gaming the epon 19 degree rescue driving iron - which till I got the egg spoon 3 wood was the first club I'd replace if my golf bag was stolen/house burnt down/I lost on a bet that went too far against the bandits I seem to be coming up against on '15'. So interesting to hear the egg hybrid 3iron getting a nod from you - goes as well as the spoon? Defo agree on longevity - dug out my epon technicity wedges this morning and used them instead of the chikaras I've been using recently. Staying in the bag. Am putting the chikaras down as an expensive mistake. Yururi lob staying though. Heard great things about the onoffs - not hit them tho. Congrats on finding gold at end of rainbow. Thought it was all a lie...
driverhead
Egg Hybrid 3i+ w/ stock M43 shaft ( this is soooooooo good that i am afraid to even touch the grip ) I have been saying for months on WRX that the EGG Hybrid is even better than the fws. draven
Wow... bold statement to declare that your bag is set for 2013, especially on this forum. Awesome to hear that unicorns do exist though =) I'm still trying to figure out the proper shaft for my Egg hybrids, but I know what you mean... on the one hand, I have it in my head that they are too light and I need to swap the shafts but on the other hand I've hit some of my most memorable shots with those puppies and am not sure I want to pull them apart and open that can of worms. Vegaman
I have been eyeing the EGG 3+ as a long iron replacement. Looks really good, but I play the Srixons right now and like them too. Is the EGG better? I still havent been able to hit it, but it looks really really good at address..Robbie, what is your SS since you use the M43? Aren't the PRGR shafts usually incredibly soft to flex?

Yes to me they seem soft to flex. Not incredibly but perhaps a half flex softer.
draven
Agreed... they seem soft to flex. On top of that, the light weight likely makes it seem even softer still.
robbie
i like the soft whippy stuff....the modus stiff i have are lighter weight and very soft to flex as well.......the harder i swing with the prgr shaft, the better it gets !!! This was not true with the m43 FW shaft but for the hybrid it seems to work out great.....my swing speed with the driver is currently about 105-108 which is my 90-95% swing......with the hybrid and my irons i usually only swing at 80-85% ! i received the egg hybrid as a pkg deal but it is solidly in my bag and is definitely a game changer for me....it basically is the club i use to cover anything between 210-240 regardless of wind, elevation or lie...this club can be hit low or high and out of fairway bunkers and out of secondary rough..... draven
Hey Robbie... does the soft and whippy comment apply to the modus3 as well? And what do you mean by you have a lighter weight version? I recently tried a set of older VG3 w/ 950GH and compared with an Epon/KBS Tour combo it seemed much easier to get results with a more relaxed swing. robbie
yes the modus 3 is soft and whippy in its bend profile and it is much lighter than dgs300.....the modus and pxi are lighter steel shafts than PX and dgs
idrive
I have been saying for months on WRX that the EGG Hybrid is even better than the fws. 2-3 years a go I posted some pics of my egg FW's mentioning how incredible they were. I was flamed to no end because of they way they looked..... You'd have thought I went after someones Grandmother... anyway, JDM praise - WRX = deaf ears

This is very interesting stuff! We have almost exactly the same SS and I always try to be extra smooth with the hybrid/driving irons and it works great with the Srixons, in one of them I even still have the original Srixon SV graphite shaft in stiff at 77 grams. I thought I would have to switch it out but it works really well somehow. Even though I usually like a bit heavier and stiffer in my other clubs, especially irons. But I waggled the EGG+ a few times and it seems very soft. Your comment about it getting better the harder you swing is intriguing stuff for sure. It's quite pricey, the EGG, for a 2 or 3 iron replacement, and I always figured I needed to change the shaft too. Now I'm not so sure anymore. They should sell these with the M46!
