Ian-500
All. I'm picking up a Yamaha 14* head at the end of this month (thanks Jay) and I'd like some advice on what to shaft it with. This club won't be used much off the deck, so it's primary use will be hitting tight fairways off the tee. My preferences in order are: 1, very tight dispersion. I'm not looking for distance. 2, I want it to have a soft feel (Soft butt?). 3, remove the left side (tip stiff?). 4, low launch and low spin (low torque?). 5, mid 70's to mid 80's weight. I want to play it at 42" or 42 1/2". I can't afford the highend (Crazy/Quadra etc), but I can possibly get hold of GD 9003x, GD DI 7x, WB 73x/83x, BB 73x/83x, RB 73x/83x, Ahina 70x/80x, Kai'li 70x/80x, Attas T2 7x or a tour issue Fubuki 'K' series 80x. My SS is around 107ish, and I can turn the ball over fairly easily (or is it that my swing is too flat. Lol) Please recommend others, but let me know what you think. Thanks Ian. chiromikey
i have the same head mounted on an 80g 'ilima tipped 1/2" and it is pretty damn solid so i have no problem recommending that set up.

supo
all of those shafts usaid wil ldo the job except for the fubuki, its a hooker. the ahina is awsome and cheap. the BB is fantastic, the GD p9003x is incredible but it will go high. and thekaili is my choice ofthe lower end dshafts i nthe yamaha head. but its not really an anti left. but its not a turn it over shaft. of these............ the GD BB would be my bet bec its the newest Edited November 20, 2012 by supo67
Vegaman
How about the Roddio WA7 or 8? Sounds a lot like the shaft you are looking for.
Ian-500
Thanks for all you input guys. Fubuki removed from the equation. I thought that the 9003x would have been the lowest launch of the lot?!? I can't get hold of a BB cheap enough :( Having checked out the Diamanas, I was thinking that the Ahina/WB was probably the 1 to go for. Hmmm the Roddio. More research required. Have you gamed either of them vegaman?

Have you gamed either of them vegaman? Yes, I game/gamed the WA7 in X in a driver, still have it and it's a great shaft. Very smooth feel but incredibly stable, and not whippy in the tip. And, very anti-left, it's almost like it's designed that way. Great kick through impact. I will even take it out the closet for another go now that I reminded myself how good it is, ha ha
Ian-500
Ha ha ha hope it goes well. Struggling to find any of these on the used market to have a look at, especially here in the UK.

daamartin
I have an Ilima 80x in Yammie V14 and it's the best FW ever for me. Building another with Accra SE80* to see if it can be bettered, but doubt it....
Guest kbeasley
On the advice of TSGer skippecarey, I put an Accra XE80 (M4) in an Epon AF-202HT last year. Found it on ebay for $25, was a $500 shaft when new. Fantastic shaft for a FW, will do precisely what you tell it to. Not whippy at all, not boardy, lots of feel and feedback. The response gets better the harder you go at it. The SE80 and SE80* are almost the same shaft, slightly softer tip from what I understand. MoreBeerBetterGolf
Boy I didn't want to spend the money for a FW80 but am so glad I did. Anti Left, stable, feel, huge kick, feels like every single iota of energy gets transferred to the ball. I feel like a tour player when I hit my 3W now! They do pop up used occasionally and might be palatable for you at used price. It was my first foray into the 80T stuff and its the only shaft hype I have ever bought into and actually been impressed relative to expectations. FWIW I don't think the Fubuki Alpha is a hook prone shaft. It is much more stable than the original. Sucker is long too.
