how does Yamada feel compare to Epon i33?

I can't decide which putter to get... I used to have Yururi Nantetsu and love the soft carbon steel feel but it's so hard to maintain. I thought about having it refinished but that kills the beauty of carbon steel.

So I want to find something that is close to the softness of carbon steel. Is there any putter that gives a soft feed back yet you can feel the mis-hits.

i can't compare to the i33 but i do have the epon zen and compared to my yamada shogun in copper the zen was softer. however, until i got the zen, the yamada was close to the softest i had played.

hmm yeah i heard that the burning copper finish is really smooth. My friend is getting Yamada Imperial and I can test it when it arrives. I just want to make sure that I will like the feel of the putter but it's so hard to demo them.

meanwhile, if I am to pick something soft feedback, are there any other model that I should consider?

I'd build a custom gold's or modify a putter you are in love with.

I'm modifying a few new Sonoma's by golds to place in the proshop.

For myself I'm modifying an Odyssey Tour iX black series which will be cool to remove the insert and replace with a PZ insert, refinish and increase the head weight by a tad.

You can get the best of both worlds by adjusting the feel and performance of a putter you know you love the setup of already.

i agree with both

the golds style is really quite impressive, what he did with my teo and craigs is exceptional

the zen in bst

ooooooooh yeaaaaaaaaaaa!

  • 1 month later...

have both the Zen, i33 and the yamada putters

i must say zen is the softest, followed by i33 and then yamada..

however, too soft is not a plus point..

overall i will give the best ratings to the i33..

ok ivep layed the i33 now a few times

tis soft as ai thought it was and its aheavy head its beautifully balanced

the softness is very noticeable, but the ball doesnt get lost on he face.

the yamada id say the ibushi is the closest to it

both in head weight and feel , milling is a big factor. i think the epon is prob more suited to my game its longer, sleeker ,while the ibushi is slightly smaller nad thicker nad higher both are about the same price

the roll of the ibushi wit the horizontal milling is ABSOLUTELY FIRST CLASS

clsoe ur eyes roll the dice!

Gotta say, those are some gorgeous putters, Stew. What does a re-finish tend to cost? I have a pretty beat up Yamada 85029 in burning copper that I'd love to get cleaned up. I got a new Kamakura from Y just before he was deluged with orders after giving one to Obama, but I prefer the feel of the 85029. It's lighter and has a full offset vs the half on the Kamakura... Thanks.

Im having a yamada shogun refinished by BOS Golf for $100.

Are you considering selling the kamakura?

Never putted a epon, but I have 3 Yamadas. A Heritage v3, a Kamakura, and this guy, a Yamada Classic.

The Yamada classic is hands down the softest of the 3 and the softest I own; I have an odyssey protype that is also surprisingly very soft.

The classic has an insert and I don't know the material, but it makes it buttery. Overall the putter feels lighter than the other 2 Yamadas and is my favorite for fast greens.

I might if I get the 85029 re-finished.

Is anyone getting a quality factory looking finish from BOS? We tried them with 3 putters and were not impressed.

yes!!!!! get it done. ull have a huge smile when it comes back.

Tario said he did a couple of Yamada copper's for you, Stew, and that he'd post pics. Looking forward to seeing those and then probably sending mine in. (I've found that Tario's taste and recommendations work great for me, and those putters of yours make me smile already... ;=] )
