stevopagolf
Currently, I have an egg spoon version 2 with the scooped out back. It works fine. Want something more traditional looking and I am seeking suggestions. In order of preference I want the 3 wood to be: (1) forgiving/easy to hit (2) easy to elevate from the fairway (3) Good from the tee, not great but good. I hit driver on most holes. Thanks TSG. +TourSpecGolfer
I think we have similar taste in FWs Ryoma F3 w/ Crazy FW80 has captured my heart lately mostly for how forgiving, straight and long she is. Much credit goes to the shaft. However and Tario can confirm this the S-Yard XT are just stupid easy to hit, soft spongy metallic and very long. It has a shallow face as well. I'll ask T to take some pics if he hasn't already. Yamaha Z may fit the bill as well. I haven't hit it yet but on paper it seems to have a lot of what your looking for. George Spirits Mono 3D are finally released end of April, I have a prototype now and its rediculous, looks player but gets up easily. Not sure if you hit the old Gauge JPN FW woods, they were awesome. RomaRo Type-R this is definitely worth considering when it comes out as well. Psst... there are new eggs coming out next month too....
stevopagolf
Thanks Chris appreciate the input! I know the new egg is coming out, but I want something more traditional, but the scooped out back is useful as a water ball retriever! I tried the Ryoma but it is a bit too elongated. I want something more compact. The 910 Titleist is nice and compact, but a bit boring when you have all JDM in the bag (except wedge and Putter.) My wife took over my Gauge FW's! She plays 3W, 5W and 7W. I am killing the Romaro UT's so maybe I give their fairway a try. I kind of wish the Romaro UT came in a 15*! hornyjuan
Any info on the new egg?
akapur
Steve I use the RBZ 3 wood. I know it is not JDM but it is ridiculously easy to hit. My swing speed is about 105 and I am able to hit it without much effort around 230-240 yards off the tee. Easy of the turf as well goes very straight. I wis I had changed the stock shaft to one more workable. Might be good to use JDM shaft with the USDM head.
stevopagolf
Thanks guys, keep them coming! Local Golf Galaxy has a Titleist for $90 I can swap the shaft for another $12 so maybe that is my first option....not sure.
t425
x hot pro 15* w/ GD DJ , Quattrotech, or Crazy FW
supo
u gotta look at all the royal collection woods fom past years. ive recently put the bbd back into play when i dont need the extra length of the egg but abit more workability i highly recomend them.. of coure the yamaha fw but the 3 w is 14* the crazy f16 or f19 i find doesnt lack length, its muc fuller compact head but its easy to get off the ground , esp the f19 i had the f16 with a quadra fire express and that was amazing. stevopagolf
Thanks Stew! The egg treats me well but its been in the bag awhile and I think I want something more traditional. I am not a big worker of the ball, especially with a fairway. Easy to hit straight I like!
Shambles
u gotta look at all the royal collection woods fom past years. ive recently put the bbd back into play I'll give a plus to this and am much surprised to do so. Lately I've begun bagging some old Sonartec FW's and will probably put an RC Driver into play soon. They do not fly easy and need attention if you want to hit your targets, but they do bend the ball either way with equal facility and feel like they have more to give than I've been getting. Mob
I put a Crazy FW80 in my X Hot Pro 15 degree and it is a fantastic combination. This is going to be in my bag for a long time, I hope. I hit one off the tee 20 yards further than I have ever hit a 3 wood before. If the Crazy shaft isn't exotic enough, I believe they make a Japanese version of this club that is not available in the U.S., so that may fit the bill for you. I'm sure Chris or Tario could get that one for you.
stevopagolf
thanks MOB. I have heard some good things about the X Hot Pro. I may try that first before going the full JDM route. They can be had pretty cheap. I always could pull the Tour AD DI 6 SR I have in the Egg Spoon and drop it in. RBZ i ruled out and the Titleist, I don't need adjustable. The thing with the JDM clubs is you tend to get a better stock shaft. I like the cup face tech found in most JDM fairways and the X Hot has that.... akapur
Steve I think putting in a better shaft in either the Hot x or RBZ is a great idea as that would be a cost effective way of experimenting with different heads. Like I said earlier I like the RBZ head just the stock shaft is ok. Ashim
wmclarenf1
Try the Egg HD. Extremely long off the tee and I have never been been confident enough to to hit fairway off the deck until this came along. If the new EGG is coming out, price for the HD should be dropping very soon if not already.
stevopagolf
I ended up with a X Hot with a stock Project X shaft. Had good results with it. Good of the tee. Good off the turf. Very solid feeling, almost persimmon like. Going to put the Tour AD in it. Think it is going to work out. Thanks for the suggestions. Ian-500
Yamaha XV FW 14* is the best I've ever owned. I think it's matched with what seems to be my favourite shaft!
JGalls
Not JDM, but you'd be hardpressed to find a better head then the Callaway X Hot Pro's. Extremely solid/muted feeling, hot and easy to elevate from the deck
Chanaa
Imho, the RCs are the most versatile all rounder - good off the deck & the tee. The smaller head helps with set up off grass, the twin rails helps it get thru better. I have the Ryoma F2, which was forgiving & launches high, but could not hit it off tees, plus i hated the sound of it.....reminds me of those sq calloways / nike driver few years ago. Gave it to my dad who is 70....match made in heaven. Then i tried the rbz tour spoons (13deg ).......i could live with the sound as it launches hot, penetrating & equally easy off tee / deck.....and its super long !!! Thats my current gamer. I'm not so sure I would reccomend the RC or the Sonartec to the OP or any reasonably new guy. The head requires a pretty high swing speed to show it's qualities, higher than I have experienced with other heads. It also requires a pretty accurate swing to perform, but that's not nearly all that difficult to learn. I would assess it as a genuine players club that is more designed to send the ball forward in a more penetrating flight and if you don't have the swing speed, it leaves you with a whole lot of roll that is far from predictable. The kind of wood that forces you to get good with your irons. In short, if you play these you better not be counting your score, or you better be good. More forgiving, much more, is the TM Burner or the V Steel, in my experience. Those fairways can be played from a very wide array of lies, though the burner is much kinder. Their limits can be reached without a lot of trouble and stretching them thereafter is a bit of an effort but worth the learning. It does become a bit of a problem choosing between the kindness and added length, but it's the kind of problem that should be welcome to many. I was not willing to reconfigure my burners or V Steel so I just got the Sonartecs and RC to find out if I can handle more demanding but promising clubs. RLL33
You have to hunt for these, and they're not JDM, but the TM R7-CGB is the best all around 3-wood I've ever found. It's scary easy to hit, gets the ball up from the turf almost without effort, and has a delightful sound and feel to its kick whether off tee or grass. Oh, and it's long, very long. It's also a beautiful deep wine color that was used for that one season and never again by TM and is currently (badly) imitated by the latest Nike woods. You can occasionally find one on eBay for $100 or less... I've tried to kick it out of my bag many times, but no other club has been able to. (S-Yard will be the next to try when their new fw's come out...)

(S-Yard will be the next to try when their new fw's come out...) Just took a peak on the bay and there are a couple 15 degree - one in Japan in pretty could shape LOL - One at 2nd swing in MN that is pretty beat up. Many 5 woods and 7 woods. I have two PING Rapture V2 14* I picked up last year and a 19* - Absolutely love the 14* and why I have 2. Haven't played around with the 5 wood yet too much. The 14* is great off the tee and pretty easy to sweep of the deck even on a tight lies for a deep faced fairway. Try the X Hot Pro series as well - 13.5 or 15. I not a fan of the PX shaft but it does fly far and high and very easy to get airborne with the PX shaft. The 15* 6.0 shaft which for me plays closer to a Regular and not a Stiff flighted like 230 yard eight iron. The X Hot 3 Deep is also out there - but not as easy to sweep off the deck and could not kick the Rapture out of the bag for me. Cheers
potuna
Best JDM I've found is older (09) Yamaha 14 with Blueboard 73. USDM for me is R9 13, RBZ is one great long shot followed by 2 or 3 ok ones, tired 3 different shafts.
stevopagolf
I might try to find a Yammy 09 model. Waiting for the new Romaro R as well. I really like the UT so maybe the FWY would be good.
Chanaa
i think my new 3w may be a yammy. Anyone tried the 2013 yamaha 3w ? How does it play vs Rc's ? oh forgot to mention i played the egg spoon a while ago. Easy & similar distance to ryoma f2, but i could not get over the scooped up back. Funny, i got over the rbz white very easily.

Trying to get my friend into rbz stg 2 as his v steel is completely worn out
