Every time when a new club comes out sure you'll hear people said: " best ever " or " longest ever ". From D-1 to latest TRPX, as a viewer, how do I justify that?

Those are opinions, your results may vary.

P is one wise fella! :)

There is no such thing. Nobody every said any of these drivers are the longest ever.

If they were nobody would buy anything else.

It all depends on each individual.

Great performers, yes sure there are many.

But being fit for right driver and shaft combo is everything.

I really have no idea what I could consider the longest ever. Well yes I could. The original Epon ERC. I don't even know if that is the correct name.

Those sort of statements are purely marketing spiel, I know what was the most recent longest ever; cobra long tom at 4ft.....you just cant get longer than that legally hey ;)

As for the best; best at what? If its looks then beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I have been told many times before LOL, sound and feel are purely subjective to what an individual prefers.

If it is what is best for us then its obviously the driver we are gaming at present. There is always something better next week or so we tell ourselves.....

As a general rule I do believe that heads and shafts are getting both more forgiving and longer. Very slowly mind you.

It is just the natural progression of improved design, better materials and better manufacturing processes.

Same thing is happening in all aspects of our lives. Look at computers and mobile phones. Even golf balls.

Having said that I think the Driver technology is almost maxed out.

I think one of the biggest factors in the longest and best argument is more and more people getting custom fit.

Makes a huge difference in my opinion

Hitting the longest ever shot kind of like hitting the jackpot. Rather go for a combo help me increase the percentage of center hit. That might, at least, give me the longest " Average" distance! :tsg_smilie_smile2:

There is nothing wrong with some one posting "Longest" or "Best Ever" for HIM or you posting the same for YOU. As potuna said, just bear in mind when you read something like that, its another's experience and opinion. Be on the site long enough and you will be able to know better the straight shooters :-)

Absolutely, thats where the new design and technology comes in.

Couple that with custom fitting for a combo that does just that and BINGO

The combos that I have hit the longest drives ever with are ones that I just cant get on with consistantly enough. The Maxima is the classic example. I cant hit a barn door with it. I have to take my passport every time I take it out.

The Crazy 435 as well thou not to the same degree.

The Crazy 435 is the classic example that newer may not necessarily be longer or better

I think it is still the king of the jungle

Hit it next to d013 yesterday, mis**ts on 435 is as long as d013! Thats a beast!

my uncle has been gaining 10 yards everytime he gets a brand new driver.

that was several years ago. one day on a 550yard par 5 he says damn this new ******** driver is

so long i just gained 10 more yards. i then tel him to use a wedge instead as his new

driver will end up in the next town. he shanked his ball.

point is we always have longest and greatest when its new and are playing well.

as ive discovered its more of finding the most consistent setup combo of shaft and head

and more than just raw distance 1/10 shots. my longest ever was a team yoshimura LD

driver that i hit 20 yards longer than my current setup. problem is i only did it once in the time

i have owned it. id sacrifice distance for consistency.

............ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. look it easy..

if ur a after th e "best ever" "longest by far" then its the taylormade orange while thing bec ove the last 5 years its gotttn better by "staggering "12million % , so the average drive with it now is 754 yards....into the wind............uphill.............

with the new balls that keep improving probably use stadia instead of yards.

If you line up 10 of us I'd be surprised if any of us have the exact same setup.

So many great clubs that it really does come down to what you like to look at, feel, the sound, size, ball flight, forgiveness and the list goes on.

Once you find what suits you best and after finding the best shaft for you... you now have the latest and greatest.

Personally I don't believe every new release is better than the last but technology marches on and improvements are real.

Hardest part of all is to be happy with what you have but wondering if there's still something out there that might be better.... Inquiring minds

want to know..... so we ho. :)

Most of us have had clubs that were brilliant, ,, and still bought the latest and greatest to see if it could possibly be better. Unfortunatly for me...

and my pocketbook, this is part of what makes golf fun. I am slowing down a bit as I have some clubs that are working so well that the only way

it could be any better is to make a better ball strike.

To answer your question OP, there is know way to justify it. Read the reviews and if you're in the market pick out the one that seems best suited for you.

Technology has definitely improved, as have materials and manufacturing process all making for longer, more forgiving drivers but there is no general LONGEST ONE.

Everyone makes good points here.

I have always said, the best driver in the world is the one that works best for you.

Inquiring minds want to know..... so we ho. :)

So true. Great line Jeff.

I totally agree, the best and longest driver is the one that fits YOU!

It is the combination of driver head + shaft that best suits your swing style.

As of to date the best combo for ME is the Ryoma D-1 ST + Crazy 513 Prototype

But the search doesn't stop there - still looking if there's still any better and so the club hoing continues.

Impermanence is the way. To celebrate impermanence is enlightenment.

I agree totally, we all have opinions.....That is why this site is a great source of knowledge and vast quantities of interesting debate. Starting any topic that leads to interesting debate has merit in my eyes.....A gentleman calls attention to the good points in others.

What an interesting discussion here, as for myself there's nothing identified as longest ever or best ever it's only come to an issue of satisfaction and when u play with something you satisfied the outcome will be followed. I think it's a personal issues after all and for me the most fun part about golf is not a scores or a distance, but to keep searching and gaming with new equipment and get excited about those upcoming design and performance which is the reason I'm glad to be a part of TSG society and keep checking and reading all the feeds about new comers and up coming items is already giving me a good experience so no doubt how nice would it be to get those new equipments and playing with them on the course.

To be honest finding the best matchup equipment with the swing for better outcome is not a problem but stopping myself from greedy and curiosity is a bigger problem cause somehow every once in awhile I always find myself an excuse to buy a new clubs haha.

well put tokidoki1986!

The way i see this is.if u have one driver per year and uupdate to the latest model,

u willprob find a small difference increase in either length or control what ever the comapnyis touting that season.

Now if ubuild ....oooh lets pluck a number out here say30 plus drivers per year.

Them minco increases in both distance and control is a humoungous achievement.considering the qualiof materials and tech now .

Getting the head/ shaft match "right" is easily the hardest part of a build and when u nail that combo

u wil hear guys say

"Ive just got the best longest driver ever........"

I cant walk in and get the yamaha 2013 tour model off the shelf with. A gd bb6s and say this is thebest ever even tho its been built by theyamaha team for exaclty that purpose, thye chose those components bec they fit like aglove for......

Mos tjapanaes egolfers at agood level that hit fairways consistanly

For me , it will be a string of spaggetti but the majorityof good japanese golfers can hit that brillinatly

So while that head is a s good ,long as any

Its the shaft that mKes it outright perform or fail

So the single longest or best(i prsume that means getting on the fairway the most) is utterly impossible to do

U can get a fairly decent idea of whAts terrfici if ur prepared to do some legwork ur self

And in the end

That srealy the only way

Ihave definatly found 20,,,, easily 20 drivers that ive built thatare perfectly the longest best drivers of all time

But. Istill build and. Istill buy

Bec ilike to do it

AH yes Stew, some famous sentiments hidden in that little speech; well done..!

In a nut shell, to dream the impossible dream...!
