Posted January 10, 201411 yr I'm looking for a new set. Currently I game Mizuno mp-r12 wedges, and I really like the slightly rounder shape, as I feel more confident than the smaller and narrower tear shaped models for stronger players. I have not had to privilege to handle a whole lot of different JDM wedges, but of the ones I've tried my absolute favorite JDM wedge is the Epon 208kgx - great shape (to my eyes) and super bite. So, using the mp-r12 and 208 wedges as shape references, what newer model wedges could you guys suggest?
January 10, 201411 yr Author Forgot to mention the above wedges are also pretty forgiving, which is important to me. Thanks, gang.
January 11, 201411 yr Check out MP-R4 in the TSG store they're also come with many custom option so instead of loft and shaft you can choose your own finishing, grind, stamp and paint fill.
January 11, 201411 yr If you like bigger and already like the Epon 208, why not the latest Epon wedge?
January 11, 201411 yr playing/played with epon 208&210, crazy proto, prgr nabla, titleist forged... i think the crazy has the best feel. prgr super easy out of bunkers, preferred 208 over 210, more spin and control. could also be the shafts... have diff shafts on these clubs.
January 11, 201411 yr http://www.tourspecgolf.com/product_info.php?products_id=5558 I agree with the some of the other peeps. This one is definitely worth looking at! Has that rounder shape you are looking for. Also like the Bold and the Romaro Ray SX, which kind of flys under the radar. And theres always those Vokeys!
January 11, 201411 yr Author I guess the mp-r4 would be a logical choice, given the fact they look so similar to the r12 I'm gaming. But it seems like the least exciting offering to me b/c I've been using the r12 and want to switch it up a bit. I would look a little deeper into the newest epon 213stx offering, but I wasn't crazy about the 210, so until I can at least read up on some detailed reviews (which I can't seem to find), I'm a bit hesitant to consider it. The bold intimidates me a bit b/c it seems to be a smaller head, which means less forgiving. I know almost nothing of the romaro wedges. I know a big fuss was made over both the 2011 Yamaha V forged wedge and the RC wedges? Do the newer Yammies and RC feel and perform as pure? Xerobound, are you referring to the 2012 or 2014 Vokeys? Do you know anything about the 2014 Cold Forged process in terms of whether or not it yields a nice butter soft feel? Edited January 11, 201411 yr by Shankopotamus

Do you know anything about the 2014 Cold Forged process in terms of whether or not it yields a nice butter soft feel? I think that the Newer Yammies and RC live up to the older models, which I really liked. The newer models both have a new face, which i think does help a bit for spin control. For the Vokeys, I'm talking about the 2014 Cold Forged. It's no longer Endo forged, but it still lives up the the Vokey name! Great soft feel and overall performance. I think the 2014 Vokeys will be a top seller this year! Some of the loft/grind options are already seeing few days delayed shipment due to high demand! - If you see Tario aka gocchin's post, you can see all the details on this. Romaro has made a name for themselves for their quality irons and drivers, but their wedges are pure. I think their driver and iron presence kind of over shadows the wedges, but it is worth looking at, especially if you like the darker finishes.
January 12, 201411 yr I know there's so many choices, but Vokeys always has a sweet spot in my heart. :) Just something about them...
January 12, 201411 yr I already emailed you but I can repeat myself here as well, it would be between the MP-R4 or Vokey Cold Forged. Both have very good feel, spin and forgiveness, and set up nicely. The Mizuno's have the added bonus of being in the Yoro program.
January 14, 201411 yr In search of new wedges.......... my Epon 210KGX fitted with NS Pro WV115 are nice feeling but the ball don't bite on half shots (well the ball stops only for full shots) Just dug out my old Gauge Design wedges fitted with Shimada NW110 today, will give the Epon wedges another chance tomorrow but then again the GD wedges have non-conforming grooves and aggressive face milling
January 19, 201411 yr Fourteen mt28v3 are the only JDM wedges, I've tried... those things chewed up my ball like crazy. How does PRGR compare? I could use an easy to hit wedge out of the bunker.
January 19, 201411 yr I've been hooked on Toyoshimas for a long time, if those don't do it for you the Vokey Cold Forged are stellar. And I'm not sure if people noticed that the new Yamaha wedges are part of the "tour model" series the previous version was not, I've got them and they are some of the best out now.
January 19, 201411 yr Author Ya those Yammy Tour wedges look sweet, but I was looking for a slightly thicker top line. So I just picked up a pair of Romaro IS sole wedges. Supposed to have nice spin, but also some sweet feel with that s20c + copper underlay. Hopefully I made the right choice. I had some good advice though. Along with picking up a used set of Yammy wedges from Stew, I'm really tempted to pick up some cold forged Vokeys. I know some people love their drivers and other long games clubs. Some collect tour putters. But for me, with my short game being my bread and butter, I just can't get enough of all the nice wedges coming out year after year, especially JDM. It's like candy to me.
January 19, 201411 yr Agree with you Shank, I think wedges is definitely a club that nothing can compare to JDM.
