+TourSpecGolfer
Epon 504 J & D Drivers coming October 23rd - Two new models are being released later this month and while neither is designed for the hard hitter it is something new from the brand. The 504D (H) was created for the golfer who desires high spin and a higher launch, it's only available in 10.5* and Epon reccomends is used for players with an 80 mph swing speed. The 504DJ is made for players who swing about 96 mph and is available in 9.5* loft only, both drivers are 460cc's. Another indicator of who these will appeal to lies in the stock shaft options made by FSP all in the 50g range options even for the 504J model. Titleist has a similar setup with the VG3 version in 9.5 the other in 10.5. I'm not sure if anyone is see'ing relation in Epon's latest releases to some of the other OEM clubs made for their customers but it's a rumor that has been floating around lately with those closer to the brand than we are. Unfortunately we can't come to agreement with Epon but It's not that big of a deal, you can get it in the states and the EU for silly low prices and heads only. +TourSpecGolfer
thread jack!newborn?? congrats Chris! Hope you're getting as much sleep as you can these first few months! Congrats Chris!!!! Enjoy these moments, they grow up fast! Thanks guys I appreciate it! they are continung on with the them of the 102 right just tweeking it a bit. I'm not sure, lots going on over there. I hope they return to roots although they just started a campaign turning the dog into a rasta character so we will see the direction. Main thing is the product still looks sleek. Interesting that's Kobayashi-san's pup and he hasn't been around for a long time. Players drivers are the hardest to design as it takes a bit more in design to lower spin effectively while keeping other characteristics performing. bstnyc
I had the chance to hit the 504D-J at my local golf shop yesterday, the club maker paired it with the new Tour AD shaft (I think it's the MJ 6S), here are my findings: - Launch Angle: I immediately noticed how low the ball launches, seems to be much lower than my Basileus Alpha 60S + GP One Minute; launch monitor shows around 9 -11 degree launch. - Dispersion: the dispersion for this combo beat out my current club, everything seems to be going straight! This is probably the part that impressed me the most. - Distance: 5-10 yards shorter than my current driver. - Feel: classic Epon feel, soft with a hint of springiness underneath it, if you know what I mean. If I am looking for a new driver, this would be one of the clubs to test for sure.
EdGolf
How do you find the new Tour AD MJ shaft?
corky3
interesting that it is lower launching.... how does this offering differ from the AF 153?
+TourSpecGolfer
interesting that it is lower launching.... how does this offering differ from the AF 153? It's designed with a little more spin and a higher trajectory with it's weight positioned low and back. his lower launch might be the shaft. Target player based on head and shaft design is a slow to average swing speed player trying to avoid the right side.
Spoon
i have one with a TPV-7s so can comment on the spin and launch compared to the 153.
bstnyc
interesting that it is lower launching.... how does this offering differ from the AF 153? I was a bit surprised by the lower launch as well given that it looks to be a GI driver. The club maker did mention that the J version is designed to be lower launching when comparing to the H version (which I didn't get a chance to hit to compare). I think the shaft has something to do with my result (the MJ shaft is stable with mid-kick). When comparing to AF-153, 504 is not as soft/sticky feeling as the 153. I got around the same distance, 504 perhaps a tad bit longer, but not by much. Edited November 3, 2014 by bstnyc
corky3
Thanks BST, am interested as this is the exact shaft head combo that I am considering......
Spoon
i gamed the J today. BSTNYC is correct in his observations this driver is surprisingly low for those used to the 153 /ems variants i would say that despite its shallower design and intended market it reminds me of a cross between the 103 trajectory with the forgivness of the E-ms. It is also very crispy very different to the spongy feel of Epon drivers. Again it feels like the E-ms which was also crispy. no way is this only for guys that swing 96mph only. i swing around 105-108 and found the trajectory to be perfect for my needs.i am a 10* driver guy because i like the forgiveness aspect but preferred a lower trajectory. problem for me was going lower like 8.5 and even 9.5 made the clubs siginificantly more demanding for me and i had to adapt my swing. with this club its easily as forgiving as the 153 but lower in flight for that added benefit of run. so why not get the 153 in 9.5 instead? because the 9.5 is still very high with hardly any run. the 504dj is definitely lower spin than the 153. FEEL is not bad at all just got used to the spongy feel of ZERO, 1-5 series only had 1 round with this driver and will have another one tomorrow. edit: using a quadra TPV-7s in this combo Edited November 6, 2014 by Spoon
corky3
aAlthough not as spongy does the sound seem more pingy than the muted sound we are used to?
Spoon
aAlthough not as spongy does the sound seem more pingy than the muted sound we are used to? To be honest the way we perceive feel and sound can differ from person to person. I do agree though that only the old 101 and zero feel spongy. Newer variants like 102/103 are more metallic 153 less spongy and the EMS and 504 crispy :) Guess the sound and feel are byproducts of the design and materials. Reminds me of the maxima
akapur
C Thanks for the write up. Sounds like you may have a winner there. Forgiveness with length just what most of us are looking for.
Spoon
C Thanks for the write up. Sounds like you may have a winner there. Forgiveness with length just what most of us are looking for. How many of us have had the "perfect" driver only to sell it for something else. Jury is still out though if I could do it again I probably would go for a higher launching shaft like the mt 7 or crazy boron.
