Hi guys.

Up until recently the longest club in my bag was a 19degree hybrid. lol even writing that sounds silly. There is a simple answer for this. I can not hit a driver to save my life and the same goes with fairway woods. It was never really a problem because i can get that hybrid out around 230 pretty consistently.

I am now on the hunt for a wood that I can hit. I tried a friends 5 wood recently and it was amazing! I could get it out there 250 no problems. well, there was one problem. It was a Nickent from 04 and can not be found anywhere.

I have come to realize i need a combination of 2 factors for me to get along with a fairway wood. I need the club to be as low profile as possible firstly and secondly as large as possible. High volume. It is basically impossible for me to hit one of those "mini drivers" with deep faces. Just not going to happen. Think manta ray

Can anyone tell me which clubs i should be looking at? The volume (CC) of the clubs are not always listed and even more rare is the depth of the face or face height.

What I can sus out so far is that the Ryomas will probably be the largest heads but I don't know what their face height is.

Ryoma F2 F3 or F5 should fill the bill for you.

How about syard 5 wood ?

af 202ht 3 wood is shallow. Driver wise, af 152 or 153 should be on your list to try.

i have a friend at work who uses an 18 deg hybrid off all tees. and he hits it 280 yrds. his driver only goes 250 at best. its quite interesting to watch.

I second the Ryoma fairway woods if you are looking for a very low profile but large head. They launch fairly high off the tee but are great off the deck. I would also take a look at the Modart woods as well. Low profile but smaller volume and just as easy to launch off both tee & deck (for what it is worth, I have gamed both the Ryoma & Modart).

+1 on the Ryoma, very low profile face but tons of volume. I'm really starting to love my f3 and it even sounds almost driver-ish at impact. For me it's best off the tee but def no slouch off the deck either if it's sitting on the short stuff. good luck in your search!

Try the PRGR Egg. I think there are 4 different model of these now. The first and second models are relatively cheap to buy used. The head is quite large (but low in volume!) but the faces are fairly shallow, depending on the version you buy. Piece of cake to hit off the deck.

To hit off the fairway, just put a nice smooth swing on it and you'll have no problems. The more practice you have then the faster you can swing........

I agree with Ian. Try the first generation of the Egg spoon. Sounds and feels awful though. If you can get over it, it will perform. Fits your bill perfectly. Longer than most FW nowadays. And for an experiment, it can be had for a low price.

The lowest ball flight and roll combo I get is with the F2/Crazy FW80 7.4.

Ryoma is sold out of fairway wood heads, or shall i say phased out. Jan-march 2015 expect something new, more based on the UT than the D1 series FW's.

Thanks for the input guys!

I think I will try and get my hands on an egg and an old Ryoma and go from there

Cheers, Jeff

Maruman Shuttle 2 or 3-wood is exactly what you want. They are kinda the original oversized/shallow faced Fw's. A more reasonably priced alternative to the Ryoma fairways.

+1 this is what my first thought was.

I have the Epon 202HT and that is large and shallow. Easy to hit long... Ryoma I couldn't get along with.

Epon is better than the Egg IMO but pricier. As stated before probably a good cheaper experiment than the EPON or Ryoma

No experience with Maruman Shuttle.

Adams used to make a 14* Hybrid......

Romaro makes a 16* in their new Ibrid...
