Finally tested! A quick review of the Crazy 435II w/ TJ-46 HK Nero

So I finally had some time to test the Crazy 435II w/ TJ-46 HK. I read several reviews on how the 435II was quite unforgiving and not so easy to hit well. However, from my two range sessions, trackman and on the course, I could say that this is one of the best combos I have ever had!

A quick wrap-up, my SS is in the 100-105 range, launch angle at about 12.5-13.5. My current gamers were the Honma TW717 455 and Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 DB. I found on the track man that the ball speed increased about 2-3 mph, with similar numbers launch. I tend to tee up quite high, and hit on an upward blow, so the very deep face is welcome! Spin numbers dropped from an average of 2700-2800 to around 2400-2500... not much, but good enough! Runout was nice, and the land angle was shallower than before (i tend to land at a steeper angle).

Overall, I think this is a very satisfying driver, and the Crazy TJ-46 HK Nero 7.5 proved to be a great choice for me. Quite stiff, but the it eliminates the left side for me, which is my main miss. The high kick shaft keeps trajectory quite boring and flat, ideal for me i think. The sound is a nice thwack and super solid. It is still an athlete's driver I think; really can't get too comfortable with it, and must hit it with conviction. When you do, it goes like stink!

Long story short, I love this driver and would recommend it to anyone who loves the shape and "thwacking" feel of a driver like this. I think guys with SS above 115 MPH would bomb it like crazy!

thanks for reading!

Sounds really interesting. The consensus have been that the 435 is better than the 435II but I have always liked the stealthy look of the II. Also, it sounds like this head is a perfect match with the HK Nero shaft

Great review! and Congrats on finding a great match to your swing!

For me the journey continues :) Why do I keep thinking "there's gotta be something better out there"

thanks :)

i generally hit the ball high on all the clubs, so the hk works well for me i guess. Also the 435ii is a pretty ow launcher, so thats a plus

I've had a couple of swings with the TJ 46HK in a jBEAM HG driver that a friend had. Liked the feel, sound and launch. Looking back I should have tried it a few more times. Glad you've found a combo that works for you.

You're lucky to find a driver combo that works for you on first try...!! We all are still searchign for our unicorn driver, at least I'm :-)

Just a quick update after a few range sessions and rounds under my belt:

From the results, this thing is killer long on 'PURE' hits.. BUT, it is not as forgiving as I thought. Yesterday I hit various drives where i thought i made OK contact, (it wasn't pured, that's all i can say), and it really fell short of my norm. On anything but on center strikes, ball speed drastically decreases, don't know if this is the same for all other 'player' Crazy drivers. Shaft held up well, just have to make a concerted effort to 'go hard' at the ball. My Honma 717 455 would've been at least 10 yards further on these off center shots...

Makes me realize the lack of fitness i have and how much i have to work on this 'Jekyll and Hyde driver' :(

great review/update! I think we've all had our Jekyll and Hyde drivers and there's nothing more frustrating because those center strikes are just so addicting and you crave for more! I've subconciously changed my swing to try and make an aloof driver work and it took more work undoing than getting into the mess, so be careful as you try and tame this beast. Good luck, she's a beaut!

so finally i think my swing gave in to the demanding tj-46 hk 7.5. It was monster on some drives, but proved to hard to be consistent for me. Just didnt feel the shaft helping me work when my endurance drops.

So i decided to change to the cb80 ls, this time in 6.9 flex. Sooo much easier to hit, but more draw biased than the HK. Only 2 range sessions, so dont know about true distance. But we shall see :)

I'm using the same head with the LY01 6.9 shaft....loving it

the head is quite old school and simple (which i like) compared to the many USDM options out there. I spend more time with the wrench adjusting my callaway double black diamond than actually hit shots... always thinking that the setting is at fault, not my swing.. which is completely not true!
