Gauge JAPAN Studio Pics!

Recommended Posts

Gauge Japan is in the process of testing its new GAF1 Fairway woods that are supposedly modeled from the BBD Type H and Tourstage F-ST except with a maraging face instead of one piece steel. The proto GAF1's have no Internal weight bias unlike the BBD and FST, the retail versions will have the bias. Here are some comparison pics next to the BBD.

The GAF1 is in proto mode in the hands of testers and Tour Players, at the end June they will all be returned back to the manufacturer to begin analysis and testing of stress and durability issues. I like that kinda of attention to detail. I received a test sample 14* 3 wood that needs to be shafted before i give it a test on my own. I like its profile reminds me of my beloved FST.

This putter belongs to a very popular 17 year old pro in the JLPGA tour, her name is Shinobu and has had several top 5 finishes in her first bunch of events. This putter is unfinished with more paint fill to be completed:

Pics of the retail Eldiks just assembled going to their lucky customers. Please don't ask for the Eldik there is a growing back order of over 4000 pieces at the moment and I have to twist arms to even get one piece. This is the Nano Casted retail version with a real Teflon finish.

And lets not forget Hoshino Pro's GSS putter. The one in this pic is one i had in my hands until his agent tracked me down and requested I sell it back to gauge to give to Hoshino  Whats he need another for he already has the only 2 in existence :yuk:

So Chris, willing to give us an asking price to get our hands on the Proto 3 wood?

God Bless

Jer

Sorry I have to return it by the end of June for stress testing. Today I get it shafted with a M85 to give an accurate test against the F-ST.

Make any $?

All I did was return it to GD and they credited my acount, I made no profit at all from it. I did hit it first

Very cool Chris!  You are getting some Guage fans started here big time.

In Japan there are a ton of GD fanatics, best part is when you meet one on the course, their jaws drops when they see a foriegner playing whats known to be the best underground product available in all of Japan.

The GD 14 degree three wood has been shafted and 18 holes were played yesterday with it. Here is my early take on the proto product:

Feel: It reminds me of an Olimar plus in terms of feel and sound very solid feeling not a crunch like a V-Steel but more of a hollow deep pitch ting.

Distance: The Distance was about 3-5yds longer than my FST 13.5 which is a cannon also, Gauge has jacked lofts on its Irons so I assumed the loft wasnt accurate with the FW. I had the loft checked and it was on the money at 14.2 degrees. I guess being accurate is a must when pros are testing them. I was very pleased with distance and shocked as this is only a 2nd generation FW for Gauge Japan.

Forgiveness: The F-ST is more forgiving with heel to toe shots and easier to hit from tight lies but when the ball is in the Fairway the GD is un matched, I had a hard time hitting pop ups due to its deeper face. I hit a lot of pop ups with shallow face FWs Such as the V-steel and prefer a deep face by far.

Trajectory: The trajectory was low perhaps due to my swing that day but I was very happy overall with it. The M85 I installed is know to give a low boring trajectory and after a few more rounds I will know if its a match with this head.

Good club indeed, I think it has a chance in the bag indeed, IF I can find a shaft that helps it up just a tad.

Those are some of the sweetest looking putters i must say, flat out beautiful!

Are they milled? Maybe i am not looking close enough in the pics, but it is hard to tell. Flat out sweet though. Thanks for posting the pics.

They are CNC milled but milled flat. I think this is the trend of the future, If you think about it a flat face has less variables compared to milling marks at contact.

Yeah, they are milled, but it's almost impossible to tell. It's done sooo fine.

You can see it when you get a putter :o
