Got my GD cb's irons "my review"

Just got my GaugeDesign CB's the other day from Chris and pretty much slept with the irons coz they're so beautiful. :smile1: So the next day I took em out to the range and ......mmman.......it is the best set of irons I've ever hit so far in my golfing life. I normally have problems with my 3 iron like everyone else so I grab the 3 iron and noticed that it is shorter than any 3 irons out there but the sole was wide. So, I said to myself how could this club be forgiving since the head is so small that would be more margin for error. So, I gave it a rip............aaaaaaaand HOLY COW :surprize:

!!!!!!!! My shot was straight as an arrow and looooooooooong I mean 220

yards from a range ball. That is just insane, even with my mis**t it still

went long and only 10 to 15 yards (left) away from my target. I hit 20

balls straight and 13 of them went dead straight. Even the Pro at the range saw me and look at my club and said it is a "beautiful lookin piece of stick" He asked me if he could try em out and ofcourse I was all proud of my new GD club and knowing he is a pro. I said hell yeah :-) , he takes a shot and notice how nice it feels and the cool grip. He, also hit it longer than his normal distance (about 10 to 15 yds longer) and couldn't believe it.

My TM RAC LT 3 iron only gives me 200 yds the most and more trouble than anything (shank or slice it). So, I tried the next iron which is the 8, and it goes for 160 yds !!! I normally hit my 8 130-140 yds so what a big difference. Incredible...Next test will be this Friday on the golf course and I will update you guys together with the GD 355g putter that I got.

Also will post pictures when Chris fixes the bug that doesn't let me upload any pictures to my album.

Thank you Chris for recommending this clubs. It's worth all the $$$

Great review  Good to hear you like them.

I was also like that when i first got my new irons, and then after a while a it went back to pretty close to what i use to hit it. "honeymoon" period is what i like to call it, happenms to me alot. I never gained quite that much yardage so it is probably the real deal, but on a pured shot i was gaining 10 yrads and then after a little while it started to seem like less and less, but still longer than my old irons.

Glad you like them though, hope they bring you plenty of low scores.

Great looking irons!! Does GD do their own forgings or are they done by somebody else?

They are done by a forging house in Himeji, Japan. 1 man does all the hand ground edges at a MAX output of 130-150 sets a month.

Got my GD CB heads from Chris too, having them installed with Fujikura Speeder 717 now, can't wait.

Btw, anyone have the club length on the regular GD CB irons? They are not posted on the website. Thank in advance.

The GD Website lists 37.5 for Dynamnic Gold and

37.75 for NS PRO's

IMO - Best thing to do is get fitted to your specs since that is one heck of an investment you made.

Thanks, the reason I asked is because Shokosugi said..:the 3 iron and noticed that it is shorter than any 3 irons out there but the sole was wide.

Quick question - In the forgiveness factor, how do they compare with the Srixon i302s? Please comment, thank you

Jack0428, what I meant by short is the "face" of the club not the length of the shaft. My Shaft is a Stiff NS-pro in standard length.

And thank all for your compliments.

Unfortunately I have not hit the i302's perhaps TSG (Chris) could give you a better comment on it. I just know that the XXIO line is the newer version and is very popular in Japan.

Sweeeeet sticks, but you gotta get those Cleveland wedges out of the bag. What happened to the Scratch wedges? Maybe you need to put a set of Zodias in there?

I put my Gauge Design CB's in play today for the first time. Some of my initial observations:

Looks and craftsmanship: You've seen the pictures earlier in this thread. Enough said. The offset is a little more pronounced from the mid irons down but unless it has a ton of offset, it doesn't bother my eye. All I care about is feel and results. About the only thing that I would have to get used to is that the cavity is visible on the 3 iron at address. The only negative is that when I took the plastic off the heads, there was a greasy film on almost all the heads. It looked like cleaning solution that could have been used when the shafts were installed. Head sizes are smaller on the long to mid irons versus the 690.cb's but look the same on the shorter irons. Toplines looked about the same. (I didn't hit them side by side so I was only going by memory)

Very, Very soft irons. Softer than the 690.cb's that I currently play. Very sweet feel when hit on the button. I'd say just as sweet as the Tourstage MR-23 US SPec MB's.

Very forgiving. I took me about 9 holes to get some kind of rythm and I still hit them ok and scored better than I expected. Feedback is not harsh and you can tell that your swing did not hit the sweet spot. On the back 9, I was hitting the sweet spot most of the time.

Distance. These irons were ordered with regular rifle 6.5 shafts. I currently play project x 6.5. I did hit a few 3 irons that carried at least 215 in to the trees at the end of the range. I've measured the distance previously with a GPS unit. For the most part, I wasn't gaining a club with them. If anything I was loosing. I was hitting moonball after moonball with the shafts. When I nuke a 5 iron with the 690's (28 loft 38 legnth) I hit the ball around 188 yards. I nuked a few 5 irons with the GD (26 loft 37.75 legth) and it went about 175. I mean the ball just balloned.

Conclusion. Impressed enough that I just got off the phone with leaderboard and the the Project X's should be here by the middle of next week.

I will post a complete review in the review section when these instruments of pure ecstacy are properly dressed with Project X.

Well I played 36 holes with my new set of GD cb's irons over the weekend and I'am very very happy with it.

It is very forgiving, I hit the sweet spot most of the time and if I have a mis**t you don't feel that awful vibration on your hands.

The feel is soft but a canon like when I hit the sweet spot.

Distance: I gained an average of 10+ yds on every club compare to my TM rac LT's and Titty DCI 990.

I will probably experiment with the shafts later on but for now I love the stiff NS pro shafts thats on it.
