peebee
Hi all I am new to the board and posted this yesterday , but it got lost with the upgrade. I usually dont post these kinds of questions becuase they are very subjective but; I currently hit Mp-14s and a local shop here (hong kong) has just started selling the miura range of irons, they look quite sweet and have taken a liking to the cb-201 and/or the blades. Then i saw the gauge desings and thought they were quite sexy aswell. Now, until i found this site a couple of days ago, i had not heard of Miura or Gauge Designs and was wondering if any one has hit either irons comparing them to the mp-14's Any feedback would be welcome Regards Paul
MCsub
Well I have both (actually, the Miuras are shipping out tomorrow to a fellow TSGer), and also have the Tourstage Z101s. The Zs and Miuras are very similar in terms of size (small), forgiveness, feel, distance. The Gauge cavity backs are noticeably larger and have a thicker topline. They are most definitely 1-2 club lengths longer than the other two, in part because the lofts are slightly stronger. I have the Gauge in my bag and have only played one round w/ them. And it followed a round where I played my Zs very well. But I was better w/ the Gauge, and feel I can swing them easier and get better results. Today I hit a bucket and compared 9 irons between the Gauge and Z, and I absolutely prefer the Gauge. But I am a mid capper (15 or so), and I think if I were consistently in the 70s I would prefer the smaller size of the Z or Miura. So perhaps it depends on your game. Miura has not had the best reviews around here lately, but even as a Gauge convert, the CB201s were as nice as any club I ever hit. You can't go wrong in my opinion... +TourSpecGolfer
I have owned both, the CB1005 aka CB201 in the U.S, it was blueprinted with PX 5.5s, my current set is the GD 3-PW w/ PX 6.0 Shafts. I liked the look of the miuras very compact but for a CB it wasn't very forgiving reminding me of the TM Rac Cb's. The Gd's on the other hand have a thicker top line and the progression is very intelligent with the long irons resembling almost a driving Iron. I like the Gauge Irons because the lofts are jacked up, I am a short knocker as it is and can use all the help on the tee box, now when friends ask " what cha hitting " I'm on par with the other long hitters in my group. I have found a new love the older Japan only Mizuno S-30 power blades. I noticed women and men JPGA pros still playing them so I decided to pick up a very beat up set because new they are almost 2k. I have only hit the 4, 5, & 6 but am very impressed so far. I may have to switch the Gd's out of the bag and have the S-30's refinished. Nothing beats the feel of a Gauge 3 Iron hit pure so soft and long I highly suggest them over the Miuras. Cheers I have both the MP14's and Miura's you mentioned. The MP14's were bumped out by the miuras last year. They are both excellent clubs- cleans looks, nice feel, etc. However, I found the Miuras to have a slightly better feel and to more forgiving throughout the set. The best part is they still look blade like at address. If you liked the 14's you will like the Miuras! I have MR23's in the bag right now, but the Miuras still make it in 50% of the time.
