Well...nice irons and your story is one we all face, every season (at the least). Me, imo, you play between a +3 and a +6, you are young, 23 and with your irons -.25" you are probably around 5'7" (a guess). With X100 shafts, yep, you have a strong swing and since your irons are 2* upright, you are a little steep at impact. You have an awesome set, one of the most heralded set of irons of all time. But, like all men, you see hotter blondes at the end of the bar. I am surprised at your 7.5* driver. Pretty low, does this mean you are masking a flaw in your swing/lauch angle? Are you steep with your driver, do you hit fades or draws naturally? If you use a 9.0* driver, does the ball balloon? IMO, if the 300's are in great shape, polish them, re-grip them and stick em back in your bag. I have never had irons re-finished and I do not know how I would feel once I got them back. I might doubt them or not, dunno. Ever consider getting them re-finished? Yes, the 2004 and 2005 Rac TP is sweet. Also Mizuno, ever consider them? Work on your driver. I could see you with a new driver in 2005! Work on your wedge game, get closer to that pin to sink two more putts per round! Consider some Project X or TT Tour Concepts in a new Rac TP or Mizuno??? I also suspect you need a Valentine :chickblnd:

Golf lore (but true). Palmer and Gary Player were interviewed and asked what they would have done differently if they could have in their careers. "Putt left hand low" was their answer. Anyone else hear this one or am I making it up?

A good friend from a big golf store had the Rep in over the weekend, dropped off a 'goody bag'. He gave me a sleeve of Maxfli Black Max that aren't sold yet (the sleeve it just white paper). I pounded them in the launch monitor for an hour. The first thing I do when someone hands me a new ball is to bounce it off the floor. I hear the sound and my ears tell me if it is soft or not (many ball manufacturers have done studies and it is weird. If ball A is harder than ball B, but ball A makes a soft sound at impact, golfers will explain that ball A plays softer). Anyway, it has very shallow dimples, felt soft but the ball really flew out there. Impressive ball. According to Maxfli: The Black Max Ball Maxfli has another winner in their ball series to complement the Noodle. The Black Max is an absolutely incredible ball that falls right in between the Pro V1 and the Pro V1x. The feel and distance produced by the ball equals the distance of the Titleist balls and Callaway’s HEX Tour ball, but surpasses both of them as to feel and workability around the greens and from 100 yards out. Shipping March MSRP: $39.99

Cool beans. I have thought about going steel on my three wood. I like the accuracy/feel it gives. Yep, the Big Ben really gets nice forward spin for me. I putt left hand low with a slight inward backswing to square to open. It is the arm on a grandfather clock for me, back and forth like a robot. The Futura comes close and at times I like it better. The Red X has it's moments. The new Futura looks way too busy to me.

Nice bag. Is the Nak driver worth the bucks? You have a steel shaft in your 3 wood, what kind? Nice putter too, I have one and won't part with it, ole reliable. Those Cobra irons are pretty, weird grind, but very nice indeed.
  6. Budas, It sounds sooo easy, tuck or unite the right elbow to the right side...A few things are taking place and your hips dictate as do the wrists. Your topic is also known in golf as the 'magic move'. In a Galaxy Far Far Away.... Good full back swing, left shoulder over the right knee, hips rotated with your right hip in a very deep positon, wrists fully cocked in a neutral plane....downswing....your left hip begins to drive ever so slightly to the target while it also uncorks counterclockwise as your right elbow returns to the the right hip/oblique area...your wrists remain cocked...the hips are now square to the ball...there is much space between the knees....the left hips really begins to uncork and the left leg is posting up...the wrists naturally unwind as the hands, which are well ahead of the ball allow the club face to hit down and through impact. Post impact the right forearm rolls over the left. Bam. Your simple question of the right elbow is the MAGIC MOVE. It ain't easy for everyone to do, or we would all be single digit or scratch. Get a swing mirror! And read the following book which is outstanding: http://www.thegolfingmachine.com/book.htm Buena Suerte.

  8. I agree with RSU...the size of the muscle back on those irons is huge.! It looks like a duckbill on the rear of the iron. I hope I am wrong, they are gorgeous  but where many irons today offer visible 'interference' (when you look down at address you see more than just the topline) with a 2, 3, or 4 iron, it would appear that even a 7 or 8 Tourstage VIQ may offer more metal than 'Jaws' from those 007 movies (he was also in Happy Gilmore). I hope I am wrong, I thought those irons were sweet :money: See: http://216.239.63.104/search?q=cache:FWWbc...ames+Bond&hl=en
  9. Also, forgot to include from Buckminster Fuller 1965 (read above post too): http://www.bfi.org/MONOHEX.htm The Cally Ball is nothing new, no big deal.....
  10. R. Buckminster Fuller, the great thinker, philosopher, architect...invented Callaway's Ball nearly fifty years ago!!! See the following and look at the 'Catentary' icon: http://www.bfi.org/patentlist.htm Also see: http://www.bfi.org/domes/index.htm His usage of the triangle, the strongest structure (circles have 360 angles of weakness, squares and rectangles have 4, triangles have 3....) was used when he created Geodesic structures. He was scoffed at by the public, later his structures were used at the World's Fair and...how about that big golf-ball-of-a-strucutre at Disney World/Epcot Center? That is Buckminster's 'Geodesic Structure'. The NASA Space program also used his ideas as did the military. Seems Callaway did too! A Hexagon is simply six equilateral triangles wedged together. Look at Buckminster's Catentary and Domes...they are Callaways! So end of debate. Now you know the true inventor! I am of the majority in that I cannot believe the ball that Els is about to hit is of a hex compositon. Don't you think a patent would dissallow this, Callaway would sue Titleist with a 150 mph swing speed. Impossible. The Els ball is a shadow, poor lighting, nothing more. Until I am holding a Titleist hex-pattern ball in my hand, I will not believe it. I am waiting for a ball manufacturer to make a more Buckminster-looking ball, triangles, not circles, not hexes.
  11. Speak with Chris, one of the Tourspecgolfers on this site. He knows both clubs left, right and center. The TourStage ViQ Forged make me drool, available in March. He is going to play the TS ViQ Forged. The JPX E301 would be your other choice? Your call, speak to Chris.
  12. PS. According to 'Webfit' on the www.pinggolf.com website, a man who is 5'11" and has a 37" wrist-to-floor arm, he should use Standard Length clubs that are 3* Upright. I think your current irons at +.50" are too long, just my two cents. I am one inch taller than you and my arms are two inches longer and the cheesy measurement system works pretty well for me. Still, proof is in the pudding, you gotta hit/demo irons and shafts. Go talk to the Master, Joe Kwok about your situation.
  13. Are you 100% cetain of those measurements? Also, THERE MUST be a pro who can fit a left handed golfer! Hey, why not start playing from the proper, right side of the ball! Kidding. Go to Golfsmith, go to a reputable place. Get professionally fitted...talk to Joe Kwok on this site, people rave about his capabilities. If you're going to throw down $800.00, make sure it is a safe bet.
  14. 1). How tall are you? 2). How long between your wrist and the floor while standing erect? These are the cheesy (but somewhat helpful) questions you would get online, for a static fitting. If you are lost and need help and you're about to toss out some nice dollars for a new set of sticks, you should be professionally fitted for length, lot and lie. A dynamic fitting will consist of you, finding a local Nike dealer who has a professional fitter/system. Titleist's website explains exactly, step-by-step, how one is properly and professionally fitted. A simple a great way is look at your current clubs. Where they strike the ground, keys and hints are offered. If the lie angle is proper, when you hit at the driving range, off the mats, with your irons, when you finish hitting many shots, look at the club face and the area where the irons struck the mats. Do you see green (plastic) residue in a uniform, even pattern on the sole of the club? Or is it dominated in the outer half or inner portion of the sole? Is the pattern of contact on the face towards the toe or heel? Regardless of these answers, imo there are many extreme professional fitters on this site, who can offer more perspective. Still, I think they will tell you to get professionally fit. Me? I am 6' tall and through experience and analysis, enjoy my irons to be +.25" and 1 degree upright. Good luck.
  15. Callaway, I had the same wood and it came with their stock Callaway Uniflex shaft. I hated it. You say the club had a, "True Temper something." Well, what was the shaft? I bet it was a Cally Unicrap shaft and that is why you hated it. You simply did not like the shaft and that's that, happens all the time. Good luck.
  16. Check out Aldila NVS...completely different monster. You are 54 years old and can push the ball a ways, good for you. But...why not look at lighter weight shafts? Me? IMO I'd put an Aldila NVS 55 gram in Stiff (or Regular depending on your swing speed) in your G2 and go tell you to beat the dimples off the ball. Increase your speed with a lighter shaft and a tad more torque. The NVS comes in 55 or 65 gram, costs you $87.50 each (plus installation fee and a case a beer to your buddy who installs it). The NVS was to me, a lot like the Prolaunch Graffalloy, but even better. I hated the NV, most people rave about it. I'd give you the Regular Flex NVS 55. Ask you to hit it at the range for an hour. If you felt unsure about it, then try it in Stiff Flex. Good luck.

Milk, You said it best yourself, you were honest to admit in your first post that your spin rpm are up as is the ball flight, due to being 'handsy' just before impact. It sounds like you are flipping at impact, which means you are most likely casting from the top (nobody believes this till they see it in slow motion recorded video). Regardless, handsy at impact cannot, imo, be cured by a tip-stiff shaft. It can't be cured by a high kick, mid kick or low kick shaft. It can't be cured by a 50 gram ultra lightweight or 80 gram tour weight shaft. A low spin ball could help a wee bit. I moved the ball back one inch and 1/2. Think about it, just that much and it cured my high ball flight, lowered the spin. You will not keel over and die if you experiment with this for one hour. Not every tour pro has the ball even with their left toe, or left in-step. Plus, it is my firm bet that someone who is handsy/flippy at impact lost all their wrist cock and casted at the top. That is a safe bet. Good luck in finding the shaft that best suits you. I'm sure we can all relate to this scenario.

Milk, I'm with you, aren't we all on the search for Excalibur, the perfect shaft. How about this. IMO, you need to lower your launch and spin rates. I could be wack, but why not move the ball 1", just one inch further back in your stance? I would be really curious to see the result. Lower your launch and spin! I moved the ball just 1and 1/2" further back...the result was a much lower launch, lower spin and another 15 yards easy. Shafts? Speak to Joe Kwok on this site. He is the Man. see: www.accragolf.com www.mccshafts.com www.accuflexgolf.com www.aldila.com
  19. I am not certain those are hex patterns. :-D The deep shadows and fuzzy pixels make it appear as such but not really. :o Call Scully and Mulder. What I can make out is his iron face, maybe a lob wedge is wearing out in the slight outer portion of the face, more towards the toe. A good depiction of what your irons should look like if you hit in, to out, to sqaure, to in....draws, :money: Like Ernie.
  20. Godfather, I agree in that Titleist seems behind the curve in developing newer, cutting edge products. Yet look at the 983K...Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Davis Love, Jay Haas...just to name a few. These men used the (and might still) 983 series. It has no cheesy screw or carbon fiber, it is simply and perhaps the standard for which the other manufacturers strive to succeed. I had one in the bage from the day it was released till a month ago. Screws? Didn't the Callaway Hawkeye Driver, from five years ago, have a weight plug? Weighting and screws are old news, nothing new at all. I look forward to seeing/hitting the new 2005 905 Series Driver from Titleist. Simple, pretty to look at at, productive to hit and classic. That is Titleist. Between the shaft, head and ball options, today's golfer just might be too spoiled. Besides, the shaft is the engine, if you had a choice between a 983K with the perfect shaft for you, versus an R7 with the completly wrong one, what yould you choose? Goes to show you the head is yes, important, but its all about the shaft. Blade X460 looks like a nice driver too.
  21. Hey ya know what, I agree with slicktry, why not go with a component head and build your own lightsaber! I look at Alpha heads and Ashton heads, things that make you go hmmm. Be a Jedi, build your own wallet, the one that says, "Bad mother f-er."

Fujikura Vista Pro 50...Anyone use this shaft? I currently have a YS-5 from Grahite Design and enjoy it's specifications/characteristics: super light weight, 55 grams, 4.0 torque and low/mid kick. I am looking for other options, any ideas? Thanks.
  23. "When do you roll the wrists?" Hmm. How about you change the question. When does your right forearm roll over your left? (if you are right-handed) That is a better question. As you speak of wrists, I think it's the wrong thing to focus on. Don't dwell on wrists, you'll get wristy. I believe your foreams roll AFTER impact. Impact is square, rule # 1. Don't ever stray from that golden rule. Do the 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock drill....Grab a 7 iron, take your proper grip, alignment and posture, no ball involved. Your head is noon and the head of the club is 6 o'clock. Bring the club in the backswing slowly till your hands are at exactly 9 o'clock and freeze. The shaft should be nearly parallel to the ground. Good. Swing through slowly till your hands are at 3 o'clock. The club should be nearly parallel to the ground. I believe this drill can emphasize what you need, proper rolling of the forearms, not the wrists. Sometimes in golf it is good to think in large, broad terms. Other times, it can help to dissect things in smaller scope. For you? Think bigger...forearms, not wrists. Read below and good luck. http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:gYEXOB0...olf+drill&hl=en http://216.239.57.104/search?q=cache:XzNm7...olf+drill&hl=en

True, it could be a dozen reasons why you hook, but like it has been said above, go back to 'G.A.P'. Check your Grip, is it too strong? Alignment, is it closed? Posture, is your left shoulder wide open? Etc etc. Like Eagles above said, I moved the ball back 1 inch. It felt like two feet yet my pro/friends tell me the ball is now in perfect position. Hooks..."You can talk to a slice, but the hook won't listen" Lee Trevino. "If I see someone who hooks the ball, good, I know it can be fixed easily, if I see someone with a slice, there is much work to do" Harvey Penick. I spent $700.00 last season on a Canon MiniDV recorder. Plays back in super slow, super clear motion. I learned a lot about my own swing. Is it a straight-pull hook or a draw that hooks too much? Good question.
  25. 460cc TM? Yes. While the American R5 Dual sits at 450cc, the Japanese version is 460cc.
