db9golf
Just curious as to what the general consensus is when it comes to the best irons around? I have been quite interested in picking up a set of either gauge designs. japanese mizunos, or miuras but was wondering if there was anything better? Thanks

FAQ
I don't think there is a "top" maker but any list of iron manufacturers would have to include (in no particular order): TourStage Mizuno Gauge Srixon Titleist Gold's Hiro Matsumoto Honma PRGR
+TourSpecGolfer
I vote Mizuno! :mizuno:
alohano
PRGR 900's!!! Absolutely the only thing to get me out of Japan Dunlop that I've used for years. The best! Absolutely perfect irons.
FAQ
I vote Mizuno! :mizuno: Wow, that's saying a lot! I know you just had a set of the Hiro's too.
+TourSpecGolfer
I vote Mizuno! :mizuno: Wow, that's saying a lot! I know you just had a set of the Hiro's too. Well i would vote for Hiro except they only have one style Irons. If they had a selection like mizuno did I would select hiro M. I am currently waiting for a new mizuno set of MP 27/33, no M stamp, just # in text like " 27 " and " 33 " pretty much blank. The Hiro's are the strongest part of my game right now its indeed much more forgiving than it looks.
Mikey
I really like the satin Mizuno's... but they are only available in Japan? Correct? What is the cost on a set of Mizuno satins? Mike
golfdr
I would also like an estimated cost on a set of Mizuno satin MP27's

nearfall152
I go with Mizuno, for several years they've had no equal.
ARIC
Well, I have played the Hiros, Mizuno (MP29 US version) and have ordered a set of MOZ 2030Cbs, and MP37 Satins from Chris. They are all great irons and it really gets down to feel, quality of workmanship, and game. As Chris mentioned, you get great workmanship and forgiveness with the Hiros. They are striking clubs to see in person! But the overall feel I believe to be much softer with the MOZ (they use a 1018 vs. a 1025 or 1050). Also, I think the custom satin finish Mizzys are the coolest looking clubs out there. So I am not sure you can say one is better than the other. It is like buying a car... are you buying a car to race it, just get to work, pick up girls or carry lumber to the job site. All of these things would result in different requirements - ie., leading to a different selection of the best car for your particular need. I think the same is true of golf clubs. What do you want the club to be (i.e., best looking, best made, most forgiving, WOW factor, etc.), and then decide on the best tool for the job. That is why we all have so many sets... you never know which tool is needed for that particular day.

alohano
Aloha! I think they can only be had through a J connection of some kind. Unfortunately, PRGR as a whole is ridiculously expensive but I couldn't be happier. IF you have a J connection of any kind, I would recommend having that person do a search through a J used store looking for A or 9/10 condition. I have the 900's with M-43 steel shafts. I almost got DG but I had hit them with the M-43's and took the safe/known route.
MGB
I'm with Chris. Mizuno has the softest feel and the most forgiving blades i've played.
