MGB
Thanks for the great post. Was trying to access the piece on Sports Illustrated's website but couldn't.
cpga
Doesn't come as a huge surprise as he's always played a modified version of the ball everyone else played (tour accuracy tw, nike one gold tw) but this ball sounds quite interesting. ChocolateBoy
yeah i wonder if nike jacks up the price on a dozen... could these reach 60 dollars a dozen?????
Golf_MD
yeah i wonder if nike jacks up the price on a dozen... could these reach 60 dollars a dozen????? I would bet on it, especially if Tiger can recapture the dominance he once had. You know how consumers think, "if it made Tiger better, it will make me better, too." Sgt_Slaughter
yea thats a cool article. somebody mentioned on GSC that this could be a rules violation. bc he put Nike ONE Gold on the ball that the platinum was not on the conforming list. 10-footer
yea thats a cool article. somebody mentioned on GSC that this could be a rules violation. bc he put Nike ONE Gold on the ball that the platinum was not on the conforming list. Somebody on a golf forum figured this out but all of the people (R&D, legal, etc.) at Nike Golf overlooked this possibility of a rules violation??? Very interesting  !!! hornyjuan
Funny how "Rock" Ishii says Tiger is "28-30 yards longer now" than he was when he was using "inferior" equiptment. Last time I checked his stats from when he first started on tour in 1996 he drove the ball 302 yards with 69% driving accuracy. From 1996 to 2001 his stats have pretty much been in the 293-300 yard range with MUCH HIGHER driving accuracy. Here's a look at arguably his best year (2000) with Mr. TITTY 975D and inferior TITTY PRO90 ball. Unless "ROCK" forgot to take a class in mathematics, I don't see how Tiger is 30 yards longer NOW than he was in his prime or even when he first came out on tour. When it comes down to it, it's all about swing mechanics and Tiger's driver swing is one F$*&ed up swing. His short game is beautiful though, that's really what set's him apart...forget the driving. All of his wins in 03/04/05 have been from his phenominal short game and his ability to save his ass out of the s**tty drives he puts himself in. NIKE ONE PLATINUM, BLACK DIAMOND, URANIUM DON'T MEAN JACK if Tiger can't keep it in the fairway. 2000 stats Driving Distance: 298.0 (2nd) Driving Accuracy: 71.2 (54th) Total Driving: 56 (1st) 2005 stats Driving Distance: 302.68 (3rd) Driving Accuracy: 57.4 (145st) Total Driving: 148 (41st)

I answered this in the other thread but if you go to www.usga.org and check out the conforming ball list their are 5 different versions of the Nike One Golf TW ball. One of those balls is the One Platinum. Nike just stamped it different to fool the Darrel Survey people.

Since its Tiger Woods is involved nobody wants to say anything. However what if it was, say Steve Jones who started out as the 1000 ranked player this year and started to outdrive Tiger? I can hear him now-"I using one of those Nike Golds, ha ha. It appears now you can put any stamp on any ball and get away with it. Who checks balls before a tournament? Anyway, with an approved stamp on a pirate ball who would think its not OK? Bad way to run golf.
pud
Actually the NIke rep was in the other day and had some of them. Wouldn't leave me any that ****. Price for the ball will be the same as the current One black/gold.

Did you see the Tavistock cup? In particular the third playoff hole? Tiger flew a ball almost 350!!! No way in hell he could have done that in 2000. If stats were EVERYTIME a DRIVER was hit, you would see the huge gains by technology. Two fairways a round is only a glimpse of "driving", especially when players may not hit driver on those holes.
