Well guys here goes. There is the obvious cosmetic difference between these two, however for those who are fortunate enough to have used both, are there any performance differences

both look identical shape, have exactly the same playing characteristics...ie i have both in 53 and 58....

the feel IMO is slightly firmer of the sqbt and i can really feel the grooves eating into the back of the ball, this puts warning signs in my head saying i need a new ball! the oriinal gas1 forged was a nice soft crisp feel were as this has a bit more meat to it!

spin wise its hard to compare because my gas1s are so worn that i would say the grooves are dead! :surprize: however i remember getting my gas1s new and thinking the same as i do now about the sqbts....that they spin like fcuk!

Because these are just brand new for me i think im having my fun with the spin, but hopefully it will calm down to a controllable level and a level that i can afford ( as 18 balls per round is expensive).

Overall i can say that to me the sqbts are better now than my battered gas1s, however if you have you are considering buying one i would determine my choice on whether you like a firmish feeel(sqbt) or a softer feel (gas1).

hope this helps

I hope these images of the GAS1 Forged, GAS2, and GASQBT help you visually. I put the GAS1SQBT into the bag because it added more spin without shredding the ball as much as the GAS1 Forged. I really wish the SQBT was available in the same satin finish as the forged is also with the same raw face but I guess the black will have to do. All three of these wedges feel very soft at impact and perform like champs. Each made 100% in Japan and IMO better than anything else I have tested to date.

  Played today with my new GAS1. The round went well including, one very memorable shot out of the rough, over a bunker, landing softly on the green and rolling to four feet which I made.

Gota say this just gets better and better.

Not surprised you have just about worn yours out plus 1. I just love practicing with this club

did a FULL OUT test there......results are

the only difference in the shape is the sole on the sqbt is slightly wider and the leading edge is slightly more rounded. the black finish also make the sqbt look smaller however it is not! the gas1s definately rip the balls more! and definately have a much softer feel at impact. the feel of the sqbt is fairly firm. really not sure which i prefer.......i definately prefer the 53 in the gas1 but havent decided on the 58 yet!

so anyone looking a 53 sqbt basically brand ne shoot me a pm lol!

Guys just to keep yous informed i have now 100% went back to my gas1s. althought the asbts are an excelent wedge with great face technology and grooves, i just couldnt knock my reliable gas1s out! i have become accustomed to their soft feel and their gruesome grooves!

Anyone that is looking into either wedge needs to ask themselvesdo they want

1....Very soft feel, rusty face, grooves that absolutely shredd the balls or

2....Soft feel, firm but very responsive, very controllable around the greens, less aggresive grooves!

Any more guys that have tried either wanna comment? :tsg_smilie_cool:

Plus which one would you say is more similar to a Vokey? I have always been a big plain chrome Vokey fan, and have the GAS1's, but I am a little concerned about the shredding. I haven't completely worn the black off the face so I can't say for certain about the feel with the GAS1's. I do like how they just stop with not a lot of spin. I am assuming they will spin more when the black wears off.

I had ordered the GAS 1 Forged, Chris put the order in correctly, but Gauge Design inadvertantly sent the SQBTs. Chris was more than willing to make things right. But after trying them off the carpet downstairs lightly (while still in plastic) I decided I would keep them. Now with th plastic off, I would say these feel firm like my Vokeys, but have better feel feedback, if that makes sense. They are a soft but crisp feel. Think cameron platinum putters compared to studio design. I also didn't want to shred balls too much and so have kept the SQBTS. Wish I could give you first hand feedback on the GAS1 forged, but I haven't tried them. Plus1 definitely has the best insight there.

:tsg_smilie_cool: Hit an 80 yard pitch with the GAS1 last weekend, during the round. It flew 20 feet over the pin and sucked back to a couple of feet.

If you really want to have some fun with the short game, the GAS1 is the club!!

Exactly what i love about the gas1s. and exactly why mine will be staying in the bag over the SQBTs! I think golf is a game of fun, and for me to max my enjoyment i have to get lots of spin from my wedges lol! :tsg_smiley_yes: With the gas1 this is reality, the grooves do literally eat into the ball, which ultimately becomes expensive ( buying new balls) but gives such satisfaction!

Can you ever wear these down so they don't chew the ball so much? Although I'm becoming more convinced that this could be worth the expense of new balls just to see the ball suck back that far!
