+TourSpecGolfer
I havent had enough time with this clubs to give it a real review but after one round I can say its accurate and easy to hit. Accurate comes from the steel NS950 shaft IMO and easy to hit is due to the shallow face and weight plug in the rear sole portion of the club. plus1
looks sweet chris. The area in which taylormade excel in my opinion is with their fairway woods. the 200 steel was dead easy to hit as was the v steel 1! Im sure they have come up trumps here and produced another forgiving sweet three wood. Looks funky too! :tsg_smiley_yes:
Phillip Alexander
Chris, I don't know where you are, but it would be safe to say you're not using white golf balls when you play! The V2 looks like a winner to me. I really like the long metal hosel. This would be really easy for Joe to bend to give you your preferred face angle. sfgolfer
I've been playing the 20 degree for a few weeks and the 3 wood goes in the bag this week. I can give a more detailed review but safe to say I agree 100% with Chris. This is the fairway wood that put more fairway woods back into my bag. rickylau
Does it have a square face or slightly closed?

+TourSpecGolfer
So what's the improvement on the new V Steel? It's obviously better than the last one. I really dont know to be honest, I guess the weight plug gives it a lower COG? or that could be used to control head weight. :tsg_smilie_confused: I have the original V-Steel as well and will take images side by side when i return from Amsterdam. sly_sam
That's cool, i too have a V Steel and like the way it works. Like to see how they've made changes.
sfgolfer
It's the COG. The shallower face and the plug rocket the ball skyward. I hit down on my woods from the fairway. You can take a divot with the 20 and still send it skyward with that descending blow. The ball flight is a nice compromise btw my 3 iron and hybrid. I've always been a fan of steel in fairways, and the NS 950 does NOT disappoint.
sly_sam
Okay so here's some straight scoop on the V Steel 2. vsteel2.com Edited December 2, 2005 by sly_sam
+TourSpecGolfer
Okay so here's some straight scoop on the V Steel 2.vsteel2.com Good Scoop Sam! Here is the text: Shallower clubface than original V Steel promotes a higher launch angle and generates more spin to promote greater distance. Pull-Face steel construction makes possible a thin, flexible face that delivers high COR for longer results on mis-hits. Refined V-shaped sole increases clubhead stability at address, facilitating aiming and reducing turf-resistance at impact. Tour-proven clubhead shape is engineered with a low, deep CG that helps launch the ball quickly and with little effort. Permanent metallic swing-weight plug is easily and accurately set by TaylorMade engineers to meet each player’s individual preference. sly_sam
One of the noted improvements is that the new club shape and CG position help the ball get up quiker than that of the old V Steel. One of the forum memebers who has two V Steel 2s said that exact same thing, gets up quicker and has more hieght. It least we know now that it's a noticable difference. How is the V Steel 2 with the NS 950 vs. the graphite shaft (90 grams vs. 55 grams)? Is the NS 950 shaft too heavy? I currently play the YS-7+ shaft, about 75 grams, in stiff flex. Any thoughts? Thanks, Bert-B

If your using a 75gram shaft now just add 20 grams on top of that.
sfgolfer
Indeed. Does not swing heavy at all. I took a few additional points off with a counterweight under the grip I need to say, I did give up distance with the NS Pro (i.e., I can hit the 21 degree FT3 with an NVS 10/12yrds past the 20 VS2 with the steel shaft) but the VS2 is a laser - goes where you aim it. Thats the glory of steel shafts, In Japan due to tight courses and and all sorts of angled lies I use NS Steel in all my woods and yes that includes my driver, The primary purpose of the that was like yourself accuracy. I suggest steel in woods for people who value a straight shot over extra distance or need to stay low in strong winds. IMO it also benefits people with fast and explosive swing tempo helping them smooth it out a bit.
MGB
Just played two rounds with the V-Steel 2, but with the ultra-light graphite shaft. Must say that I really found the shaft too light with the new lower center of gravity, it just kicked the ball way up in the air. I'm sure my opinion would be more favorable if I'd gotten the NS Steel shaft in it. That said, it's very easy to hit and sets up square to the ball.
