+TourSpecGolfer
It seems like the Japanese OEM's are rolling out their latest release schedule right around now and Macgregor golf has got 2 new drivers, a FW, and a couple of different sets of irons in their new line up. The NV series was a huge hit in Japan for the average golfer 2 years ago. Then the NVG that only did so so and now the new NVG2. This is the first time they have offered a tour version driver. The new NVG2's feature a 445cc club head size and a new cup face design that they say expands the sweet spot. More tungsten has been added to the sole and its got an updated version of the 3 kick 4 zone shaft which supposedly has multiple kick points. The Tour version is USGA conforming slightly heavier with supposedly a square face angle. The new NVG2 Irons are also available in two forms, these irons are very forgiving with their high rebounding face and hollow head in the #3 thru #6 Irons... thats right an iron with a hollow head :tsg_smiley_yes: The 3,4, & 5 irons also have tungsten weighting making them easier to get into the air. The Tour version Irons are not hollow and feature a smaller profile.
aproposfornothing
I've always liked the look of the NV Series...Angular on the sole, but fairly traditional shape on the crown. What color is the NV2? Same dark blue?
plus1
this looks cool chris, obviously you havent hit it but can you recall if the first NVG was real loud? ie will thing thing deafen me lol?
+TourSpecGolfer
I'm pretty sure it has the same dark blue crown, The design is pretty similar to the last 2 models. IMO its for the mid handicapper, very easy to hit and helps slicers big time, the sound is rather hollow and tin like.

sly_sam
The look of MacGreggor has gone from extreme tradidtional, to extreme techy.
+TourSpecGolfer
The look of MacGreggor has gone from extreme tradidtional, to extreme techy. Yes it has, It actually started out in Japan several years ago and the U.S side decided to pick up on the success they were having there with it. Loud, Hollow, and affordable would best describe them IMO. Oh yeah and I forgot to add extremely easy for the mid capper to use.

I'm glad they are slowly coming back with very high tech equipment. MacGreggor is very affordable to the average golfers.
ramizuno13
Extremely LOUD! The Mac rep has it and you need ear-plugs. Easy to hit though.
toshman
i just saw the nvg2 tour irons here in japan, i really like how they set up, didn:t hit them, so wondering if anyone here has and what they think of the irons
acrazygolfer
Is the Japanese NGV2 the same as the US versions (retail and retail tour)?
toshman
i think the woods are the same, and the nvg2 irons, the nvg tour here in japan looks similar to the m685 cavity wise, but the profile in japan kinda struck me in awe, minimal offset, medium topline and i liked how every club looked. i think the m685 and nvg2 tour are slightly different. I tried the US M685 and was quite surprised. It was very forgiving, but what made the biggest impression was the long irons. So easy to hit. What do you see different in the Japan NVG Tour and the US M685?
Ouzle
What does NVG stand for anyway? A friend of mine said it means "Not Very Good" and I can't get it out of my head now. Maybe knowing what it really stands for will help me. :tsg_smilie_rolleyes:
dorkman53
I did a demo of the US version of the NVG2 "Tour" model, with the special multi-section shaft. I was eager to try it because there were claims of major improvements in distance, and a high level of forgiveness. I was disappointed; it was shorter and less accurate than the G Field/Axiv combination I was playing then, and by a considerable margin. Now I have an Epon Technity 460/Axiv that is longer and straighter yet. Unless the Japanese version of the MacGregor driver is considerably different than the US version, I think you'd be happier with some of the G Field or Epon products, at least in my experience. MGB
My partner got a NVG Tour with a Graphite Design PT-7 in it. It's not as loud as the original; in fact it sounds a bit muted. Seems to have some material to dampen the sound a bit. Not bad. Couldn't really tell about the distance the balls went since we were on the range hitting range balls. Will get him on the course so I can hit it there. Ha ha!
toshman
finally going to the golf store in the states, the m685 cavity and nvg2 are probably the same thing, it looked better to me in japan for some reason but wasn't the same reaction when i got back, shafts and lettering are probably the only thing different about the irons
Phillip Alexander
Just an observation: The tour driver has a much longer metal hosel. The longer hosel is so the tour pro/clubmaker can bend it. This seems to be the case with Taylor as well. Obviously the retail versions need no adjustments :tsg_smiley_laughatyou:
