Matrix line of shafts look interesting but wow is their line a mess of names and confusion. Rombax and Speeder hybrid shafts sounds good as well. I have a GD UT shaft right now and it's very nice in my Bridgestone J33 hybrid. What do you guys feel is the finest in the land?

P.S. If someone can clarify how many or the names of the hybrid shafts Matrix makes that would be a feat.

I am going to seperate myself and vote for the Matrix Ozik Altus Hybrid. The best hybrid shaft there is, at least for me.

The UT85 is a fine shaft, but when I played the TRC's by Sonartec, I used my old Fujikura Speeder 757's in them and they were fantastic. I was very impressed with how well they worked in that setup.

are the ysh-85's the same as the ut 85? im quite satisfied with stock shafts of the gf-ts

I like the Aldila VS Proto - 95 gram version.

I am playing a rombax proto shaft in a tourstage x-ut and really like it. I used to play the 904hb, but thought it felt harsh even though the results were good. The rombax keeps all of the good features of the 904hb, but feels much smoother. It seems to launch a little higher with less spin as well.

I got UT-85 Reg flex on my Tourstage ViQ 4 Hybrid and it's really good..

Have hit quite a few oem shaft and have had Fuji Banzai..

So far the UT-85 is the best I have tried...

I just finally got around to installing two UT-95 (x) shafts (I bought from TSG a long time ago) in a pair of 17 degree and 19 degree PRGR 040i (#2, #3) hybrid heads (best ever imho). The #2 goes further and straighter than my 3 wood and the #3 goes as far (but higher) than the #2 did with a rifle 6.5 shaft in it. No ballooning, great weight and feel. Highly recommended for those who like heavier shafts. I'll try and post some pics of the new bag in WITB section soon.

Stupid question but was wondering if you've used the UT-85 in the past and how might the UT-95 differ? I realize its only the weight, but while I liked the UT-85 which was in the GFT, I thought that a little something was missing. Just didn't feel completely right like all my other clubs and was wondering if going a little heavier might do it for me, since I play all my clubs heavy as it is. So I'm contemplating whether or not to put the UT-95 in the X-UT which is now occupying a very solid position in the bag.

Yes, just looking at your setup Blader I think we enjoy playing gear with similar specs, although I play my irons a bit upright. I was worried about these shafts still being a bit light after using a rifle 6.5 in the #2 head previously with very good results. This experiment was all about trying to achieve the following things:

1. getting a second PRGR 040i head in 19*/ #3 - because it just suits my eye so well, a great design with the tungsten weights, less offset, easy to aim, very forgiving (I'm a decent ball striker, but not that good), great out of the rough etc, etc! First shop I walked into in Tokyo had a mint version with original cover - 35 bucks!

2. Going graphite in both heads to see if I could displace my 3 wood with the #2- cos I have always hit the #2 so straight. The 3 Epon Technity wedges I have need to stay - I am a 3-wedge man for the forseeable future, and use the 3 wood less than any other club at my home course. When I do use it, more often than not it gets me into trouble.

3. Achieving "seamless" feel going from from my irons (which are 1/2" long and swingweight at D5) to the hybrids,

I had to get them made up a little longer and tip-trimmed a little in order to achieve D4.5 swingweight.

So far all 3 goals achieved after 3 trials on the range. There is a nice traj and distance gap between the #2 and #3, and the #2 goes about as far as all of my (many) 3 woods (you can see I have a problem with 3 woods.......). They feel really sweet, do not balloon on me (and I do have a problem with that (110-112mph with driver - bit steep!). Real test will be my club championships starting this weekend.

No worries man, thanks for the info. I love long-winded replies as I can't seem to stop writing them myself. I'm going to give the X-UT in steel a little while longer before I decide if I need to pursue the graphite as in its current form its working pretty well. If I did change it would probably be out of sheer curiosity. I have to say at this point every club has a solid place in the bag. The only thing I'm really thinking of tinkering with is the shafts in the X-UT and the Epon 3 iron, but again I want some more time with the way they are currently.

Yes we do seem to have some similar tastes albeit I go the flatter route with my clubs. Thanks again for the insight and good luck in the club championships. Represent TourSpec well!!

I use the UT95 in a RC TD+ and love it. The heavier feel helps the transition from steel shaft irons to graphite woods nicely.

Maybe if you can get over the fact that it's the ugliest shaft ever created.
