Stickman
Has anyone hit both the Epon AF-302s and the PRGR TR500s ? I'm planning on getting new irons and have pretty much narrowed it down to these two. I know they are both Endo forged and made from s20c steel.. So I am assuming they play pretty similar ? Any help is greatly appreciated !!! Thanks
Stickman
Has anyone at least hit the PRGR TR500s ??
+TourSpecGolfer
Hey Sticks, I was able to hit both, the 302's are more forgiving and due to the meat behind the cavity feel a bit softer despite being made of the same S20C. The setup and shape of the TR500 Limited is better in my opinion and should be slightly more workable. TR500 is very similar to a blade in my opinion. Hope that helps feel free to PM myself or Gocchin if you have any more questions.
ihatebogies
I recently received a combo set of 302's and 701's from TSG. I have not hit the PRGR so I am worthless in that regard but since I'm now playing the 302's they are everything you've read about them here and on other sites. I have three rounds and a few practice sessions with them and I always hate it when someone says on one of these websites "these are the best irons I have ever hit" but if these aren't the best feeling irons I've ever hit I'd not be telling the truth because they really are. I'm sure you can't go wrong with either but I was down to Yamaha and Epon and I've got to tell you that it came down to the fact that these are Endo's own iron and how could you go wrong with that scenario! Anyway good luck in your choice and hopefully someone that has hit both can offer a comparison between the two.
Vineman23
Hi Stickman, I would have thought that the GN502 Tour (2010 version) would have been a better comparison to the 302 more along the same lines with a similar target audience. The TR500 is pretty much a blade and would be closer to the epon blade. Just a thought, would be interested in any comparison's or comments about this? +TourSpecGolfer
I agree the gn502 tour would be the one to compare against the af-302. The tr-500 should go up against the AF-TOUR.
cideout
PRGR has very soft feeling on impact, good ball flight ( bit higher for me ) and nice control. I am very happy with TR 500. Edited August 8, 2010 by cideout
daamartin
PRGR has very soft feeling on impact, good ball flight ( bit higher for me ) and nice control. I am very happy with TR 500. I have the older PRGR 500bl model. They knocked my z101s out of the bag after many, many years. Great sticks!

dodo
I think it came up when I hit the vote button to see what the stats where. (With out leaving a comment) I was wondering what PRGR has now as a replacement for this tr500 iron is it the ID Nabla black? Does anybody play this
+TourSpecGolfer
Yes this post is back from 2010 when the two hot irons were the TR500 & AF302. Not sure if you guys noticed but we unarchived nearly 5 years of posts back into the TSG forum. Yes for 2013 PRGR has the iD Nabla Black. It's arguably the most advanced Forged CB on the market. Check out below it's got 2 different vibration absorbing materials and whats even cooler is they decided to put it into a players CB where as Epon used it in a mid sized cavity. I'm excited to see how this works out in a smaller head. It's progressive CG location and design allows you to get a higher easier shot 3-5 while 6-8 gain accuracy yet have a blended and more muted feel while 9-PW is creamy forged S20C goodness. I'll bring in a demo set to give a whirl. compared to the TR500 I'm going to guess the new iD Nabla Black Forged is slightly bigger making it probably similar in size to the 302. supo
well...... had another big wallop with these and the monacco stiff. i had a head to head with the 2007 callway forged and project X 6.0. these callway btw are so easy to hit its alosmot a shame. beautiful sticks. shafts were super thin . no feel. very high launch ithink pretty ordinary quality(???) anwyha they were just ordinary in thee heads. but thye did make the set up so simple to hit . the prgr tr500 on the other hand, with a loft pw 46. (sheeesh) no wonder theres not 3 iron! was like a scimitar. although these are very much a cavity they play closer than ANYTHING to a real blade. much more so than the personals. more so than the af tours. like a real balde... they have a VERY thin top line. and semi mid sized sole, they are wider than the callaway 2007s but the over all head size is smaller. and literally NO of set. i dont think antyin i have ha less than these . maybe the miuraism.. but nothing else. these are genuine... no of set . players cavity musce irons of the highest calibre. damn it i idid ntget a set of these when they came out! it would a saved me about 3 million $$$$$ in lost exploits trying everey mo-fo thing there is!!! they flight was razor sharp low piercing pin seeking direct. im as blown away by these ions as with naything ive ever hit. i cant get the 6 out of my bag. they just rocketed into no 1 hawaii spot wit ha bullett. the other spot will be taken by the yamaha tours with NS 2f15x. had them rebuilt today . gotta tek them. they juts look so perfect. if icant hit good shots with these rions sets then im quitting and taking up lawn bowls! thes prgr are in my eyes magnificent. Ian-500
Stew, how do the TR500's compare in head size and offset to the Srixon Pro 100's? Really tempted to track down a set in the near future.
daamartin
PRGR make great irons. The TR500 are long heel-to-toe, thin topline, negligible offset and have a rounded toe. Top that with the satin finish and they are classic sexxxxxy irons! They still have that bevelled leading edge, so if you are a digger any of the prgr irons will always help you. supo
Stew, how do the TR500's compare in head size and offset to the Srixon Pro 100's? Really tempted to track down a set in the near future. They areprob similar size. But the prgr look like a smallermthinner head The pro 100 are one of my fav clubs as well but the prgrhave an extra dimension to them Id easily game both for ever but i think id enjoynthe pgrg more over time
